Chapter 7

CHAPTER SEVEN

Owen finally finished his night shift at exactly 4:03am and he felt extremely exhausted and all he needed now was sleep.

Owen headed straight to the boss's office to inform him about his leave tomorrow but sadly the man turned him down and said the leave won't be granted even though Owen worked two shifts today. Owen left the man's office sadly and went to change.

Luckily for him, Kate texted him during his shift that Maria also kicked her out of the mansion temporarily making her go stay with her aunt and Owen was welcomed to come.

The aunt's residence was only few streets away from the hotel so it wouldn't take so much time for him to get there. Owen changed back into his clothes and headed out of the hotel.

Kate's aunt's residence was a medium sized bungalow with different modern designs and gardens. Inside the building, two ladies could be seen having a discussion.

"Why did your mother ask you to leave?" Aunt Jenna questioned, still surprised by the fact that Maria asked her own daughter to leave by this time of the day.

"Isn't it obvious? She kicked me out cause I refused to divorce Owen and marry Chris." Kate responded with flushed cheeks as she sat on the sofa helplessly.

Hearing the words of Kate, aunt Jenna began to fume in rage.

"What is your problem, Kate?" Aunt Jenna voiced out in anger.

"What do you mean?" Confused Kate questioned.

"Why don't you just divorce that good for nothing husband of yours and marry Chris McLean? What could that trash Owen ever offer? I can't believe the decision is so tough for you to make!" Aunt Jenna retorted. "And to think that you chose to leave the house cause of that trash panda? Geez, Kate."

"I don't want Chris! Wait, I remembered clearly the way every single one was happy when I and Owen got married back then when he was still rich. Everyone including my mother and you supported the wedding, but now that he's poor you are asking me to divorce him?" Kate voiced.

"Yes!" Aunt Jenna responded sharply. "That's exactly my point. Back then he was useful cause he was loaded and powerful, but after his parents death he became useless and a worthless trash, and I don't see any reason to still keep him by your side."

"Chris on the other hand has a high position in Echelon Industries, if you were married to him it won't be hard for our family to secure a partnership with Echelon Industries. Be wise, Kate! Divorce that trash and marry..." Aunt Jenna paused in her words when the main character of their gossip walks in.

"What's the matter? I heard voices from meters away." Owen questioned with a slight look of confusion.

"You are the problem, you stinking racoon. You stink of poverty!" Aunt Jenna retorted with a sneer as she turned around and walked to her room, leaving Owen stunned.

"What was that all about?" Owen then turned to face his wife seeking for answers.

"My mother kicked me out of the house cause I refused to sign the divorce papers." Kate answered back. "But don't worry, I am sure she will come around and finally realize what she's doing is wrong." Kate added.

Owen on the other hand didn't need Kate to tell him Maria Steele's attitude towards him would soon change now that he has 100 billion in his account and also owns the Echelon Industries everyone is fighting to get a partnership with.

At first, Owen's plan was to lie low for now to avoid exposing his father, but the fact that it was his father who gave him the money and companies meaning he wanted him to have his old life back and it was okay to spend lavishly.

"I see." Owen nodded his head. "So, when do you plan on returning?" Owen inquired.

"I can't go back unless she asks me or I marry Chris. And with the way things her right now I am sure she isn't ready to forgive me neither am I ready to marry Chris, so I guess I would be staying here for quite a while." Kate explained.

"Thank you..for sticking with me, Kate." Owen appreciated with a genuine smile. The fact that Kate was still fighting for their marriage made him happy.

He had thought Kate would join her family to despise him and probably divorce him, but surprisingly none of that happened and Owen couldn't help but feel grateful.

"If only I have a stable job I would have moved out of her house and live on my own. If I could secure a job at Echelon Industries, things would go smoothly with both of us and we won't be worried about my family no more." Kate spoke in a saddened tone before rising up and walked straight to the room.

Owen watched her leave before leaning his back on the sofa and began to ponder.

'A job in Echelon Industries, eh?' Owen pondered internally with looks of contemplation. Since Kate has been loyal to him from day one, the least he could do for her was grant her a high position in the Echelon Industries tomorrow.

If she can get the job, she won't get to worry about her mother's nagging and complaints cause she would be living far away from everyone.

'Brace yourself, Kate, you are about to get a decent job at the Echelon Industries.' Owen grinned before laying down on the sofa and slept off instantly since he was extremely exhausted.

The morning sun rose up and Owen rose up from his slumber. He swiftly made breakfast and dashed out of the house to head to the hotel he worked since his meeting in Echelon Industries was in the afternoon.

After running for few minutes he arrived in the hotel and quickly changed into his uniform to begin his work.

"Hey, Owen, get this order to table seven." A deep male's voice ordered and Owen swiftly picked up the tray of food and began to take it to table seven.

While approaching the table Owen could already see two couples sitting meters away on the table he was headed, and their faces he recognized very well.

'Is that Kate?' Owen pondered internally with widened eyes as he approached his wife who was sitting right next to Chris McLean.
