CHAPTER EIGHT

Walking towards the table with the food tray, Owen recognized the couple that was currently discussing and smiling.

'There's no doubt..that's Kate and Chris McLean.' Owen pondered internally, clenching the tray in his hands and anger surging through him but he chose to Surprise it and act cool. After all, he wasn't sure if they were here on a date or business meeting.

Kate did inform him last night on how she wishes to secure a job at Echelon Industries, and Chris was a worker there so it's possible they were only in the restaurant to make a deal or something.

Those were Owen's thoughts as he approached the duo.

"Here's your order." Owen spoke, hoping for Kate to glance at his face and smile, instead she didn't spare him a glance as she kept giggling with Chris.

Owen fumed in anger but chose to remain cool and place the meal on the table.

"Hey, come over here!" Chris ordered just when Owen was about to leave. "What the fuck is this?" Chris questioned, pointing towards the food in front of him.

"What do you mean? That's definitely what you ordered for." Confused by Chris's words, Owen asked.

"I didn't order for this shit! Get it out of my sight!" Chris roared with veins popping out on his forehead .

"But.."

"Are you deaf or what?" Kate voiced out from where she sat. "Get this out of our sight and bring in what we ordered!" She added.

Owen was taken aback after hearing the words she spoke as he struggled to digest it. Owen wanted to react but he still chose to remain cool and clenched his fists before responding.

"I am sorry." Owen bowed his head slightly as he picked up the tray and walked back to the kitchen.

Few minutes after Owen entered the kitchen he walked back out with a different tray and different sets of dishes.

Owen placed the tray on the table and Chris leaned forward to examine it closely.

"This isn't it! What the fuck is your problem, you poor bastard! Is your poverty now affecting your brain or what?" Chris voiced out in anger.

"Please, understand that I am not the one serving the food. I am only the waiter who delivers it." Owen explained in a respectful tone.

"Yeah, that's what I thought...you are nothing but a low-life waiter. Take this out of my sight before it descend on you, stinking thing." Chris retorted with a sneer.

Owen bowed his head once more and walked back to the kitchen with the food.

"What's the matter, Owen? Isn't that your wife out there?" Mia questioned with a confused expression.

"Yeah, it's her, and I also don't understand just what is going on that's why I am still cool and doing as he says." Owen responded with a saddened expression as he picked up a new tray of food and walked out of the kitchen.

He went ahead to their table and placed it on it, and once again Chris leaned to examine the food.

"Better." He smiled after his examination. "Now go get us two bottles of the most expensive wine." Chris ordered.

"Why didn't you order it all at once?" Owen frowned a bit as he turned around to go get the wine. Minutes later, he arrived with two bottles of red wine and placed it on the table.

"Open the wine and pour it into our cups." Chris ordered with his mouth filled with food as he took another bite.

Owen clenched his fists in anger as he watched the duo sit comfortably eating and ordering him around like a slave..but there was nothing he could do.

Owen opened the wine and filled up both their cups and attempted to leave, but Chris used his elbow to hot the cup of wine, making it fall and shattered upon making contact with the tiled floor and the wine spilled all over.

"You, worthless trash! Are you trying to stain my limited edition designer shoes or what!" Chris voiced out in anger. Owen gazed at the shattered cup on the floor and knew Chris was the one who intentionally spilled the wine.

"I am sorry. I will go get a wiper." Owen said in an apologetic tone as he walked away. If not for the fact that he was yet to sign the documents of the companies his father handed over to him, he would have left the hotel.

Even he has 100 billion dollars right now, he couldn't just drop out of work all of a sudden without looking suspicious.

Owen returned with the mop and was now heading back to their table, while approaching the table, Owen froze on the spot and the mop dropped from his hand after catching a glimpse of what was happening.

Chris could be seen kissing Kate on the lips and Kate was visibly enjoying it and kissing him back.

With what he has seen now it was clear the duo were here on a date and Kate doesn't even regard Owen's presence and chose to cheat right in front of him.

Both anger and sadness surged through Owen as he watched the two connect lips right in front of him. Just when he was starting to think Kate was different from her family and planning to elevate her, she had to do this right in front of him.

Owen clenched his fists tightly in anger as he charged towards Chris, shoving him to the floor and his body stained the red wine on the floor.

"Get off of me, you bastard!" Chris lamented as Owen sat on top of him and sent out a punch that connected neatly to his face.

Owen's punch slammed heavily on Chris's face and caused blood to be drawn. Owen pulled his second fist backwards and punched it out towards Chris's face once more.

"I am going to kill you bastard!" Owen voiced out as security came in and pulled him off Chris.

Some were busy discussing about their plans for a better future, while others were lamenting about their past losses. The meeting room was filled to the brim as the people there all had their eyes out for just one thing. Bagging a contract with the Echelon industries. Echelon industries was one of the biggest group of companies in the country and any contract with them would surely be a blast. Different elite families were present, Maria Steele was also present and along with her came Kate. Maria had always been someone to show off so on a special occasion like today, (Kate had told her of her relationship with Chris, so she was sure they would be able to bag a contract easily) she dressed as if she was going for a fashion show. They were still indulging in their discussions when Chris came into the room and the whole place went silent in a minute. He was putting on a navy blu

“Now, where we’re we?” Owen asked and smiled. Maria’s heart began to beat faster at the sinister smile Owen had on. “Ladies and gentlemen, I have gone through all the proposals and just like my colleague had said earlier, they were all good but I couldn’t take all so I have chosen the two best among them.” He paused a little and stared at the crowd before commencing.“After much deliberation, I have come to the conclusion that the two most worthy contracts are the ones from the Steeles and Mrs Tamara here” He paused for a while as the whole crowd grumbled about his decision. Many felt he had selected them because they were his relatives. Because it was no coincidence that he had chosen his former family’s business and his wife’s family business. Maria was happy beyond comprehension. The joy she felt in her heart at that moment was the most she had felt in her entire lifetime. She had always known that Owen was a fool but she didn’t know that it was up to this extent. But

“Is that so?” Owen asked and the attorney nodded in response “Yes, my don. We’ve signed our part. Now all that is left is for you to sign yours” Maria said with a fake smile and Owen quirked his brows. The attorney handed him a pen and he stared at each of them for some time before asking “have you gone through the whole deal?” He asked Maria.without a second thought “oh, yes we have” she answered and Kate stared at her questioningly but Maria ignored her stares. Owen signed on the paper and with the help of his attorney, the stamp was placed on the signatures and the deal was sealed. When they were through with the signing and stamping process, Maria suggested that they had a drink to celebrate the future of their companies. Owen used the intercom to request for a bottle of Chardonnay and in no time, the wine was delivered to the room. They had just popped the bottle of wine open when Maria received a call but she ignored it. Owen poured a considerable amount of wine into the

The shareholders were beyond happy with the latest developments. The company’s publicity increased after the announcement that the contract had been signed. Maria had invited the whole of the steeles family to a meeting that was actually meant for celebrating their latest deal. They had invited many others as well, it wasn’t a formal meeting but no one would like to miss such an important event, therefore the hall was filled to the brim.******************* Maria ran her eyes through the crowd as she tried to decipher Kate’s whereabouts but she couldn’t find her. She sighed in exasperation, ‘Kate would be the death of her’ she thought and hissed under her breath. Ever since their trip to Echelon, she had not been too well. Few were sincerely happy for them while others were faking their smiles. A toast was raised in honor of the Steele family and Maria had just come down from the podium when she saw the two women that Kate had been talking to before she arrived earlier. One of the women looked a little bit old, maybe in her early seventies or late sixties while the other looked younger. Maybe in her early fourties or so She walked up to them in her ground flowing gown and when she was close enough, she greeted. The women were unaware of her presence and her greeting was what i

CHAPTER SIXTEEN Owen had just gotten home and he was kinda tired. He had to admit tho, he missed all this. The early morning coffee, the stamping and signings and the occasional roundups of the top deals. He opened the door with his fingerprint and as soon as he walked into the building, he sighed. The whole place was quiet and kinda empty. He massaged his left shoulder with his right hand and did the same with the other but he felt no relief. He was fuc*ing tired. He had just slumped into the couch when he heard the doorbell ring. He was kinda suprised because it was late already. He stared at the clock on the wall and the time was five minutes past eleven. Heck, he didn’t know that it was this late, he had been so busy that he lost track of time. The doorbell rang again and this time, he furrowed his brows. He stood up from the couch carefully and tiptoed to the door. He peeped from the peephole and he saw that it was none other than Mia. He stared for a while, trying to asce

She could clearly understand the kind of pain and confusion her mother was in, and yelling at her that way was like pouring salt on an open wound. She had to sleep over it to realize that. Mario shifted on the bed and she understood he was trying to sit up. She sat up and he did too. They sat facing each other and he gave her a look that said ‘I told you so’ . “Don't give me that look” Kate said as she bent her face. She was already having a bad day without getting out of bed. She stood up from the bed and stripped to the bathroom. She washed her face and cleaned her teeth before coming out. She met him in the same position she had left him and she gave him a questioning look. “Aren't you getting out of bed?” She asked. “Hell, I am
