CHAPTER SIX

William and Alison sat in the cozy corner of El Mayors restaurant, their plates adorned with delectable dishes.

The ambiance was one of sophistication, with soft, ambient lighting casting a warm glow over their table. Alison's affection for William was evident as she covered his cheek with playful kisses, a mischievous glint in her eyes.

William chuckled at Alison's display of affection. "You're in quite the cheerful mood today," he remarked, his eyes crinkling with amusement.

Alison grinned mischievously, her lips still tingling from the numerous kisses she'd planted on his cheek. "Well, someone is finally taking me shopping," she replied, emphasizing the word "finally" with a playful pout.

William laughed heartily, nodding in agreement. "Yes, yes, I've surrendered to your relentless shopping demands. But you do deserve it, my dear."

Alison's eyes sparkled with delight as she leaned closer to William. "You're absolutely right. And besides, after three long years with Jason, I think I've earned this little indulgence."

The mere mention of Jason's name caused both of them to burst into laughter. They shared a history that was filled with bitterness and resentment toward Jason, the man Alison had once married under the insistence of her family.

It was a marriage she had tolerated for three years, all the while longing for a way out. Now, with William by her side, she felt liberated and eager to leave those tumultuous years behind.

As they continued to chat and enjoy their meal, Alison couldn't help but relish in the contrast between her past with Jason and her present with William.

She'd endured years of staying married to Jason, and she had grown to despise him.

Just as their laughter subsided, William's phone chimed with an incoming call. He picked it up, excusing himself from their conversation with a polite nod.

Alison watched as he answered the call, her curiosity piqued. She wondered what could be so important that it required William's attention during their lunch.

“Who could be possibly be talking to now?” Alison asked herself as she watched William answer his phone call.

During his phone call, William virtually jumped for delight as a bright smile lit up his face.

She became curious about him because of the sense of happiness he exuded and wondered what news had caused it.

“Sure thank you so much,” William said with joy in his face.

William was beaming as he hung up and came back to their table. Alison was no longer able to control her curiosity.

She said, her tone a blend of interest and amusement, "You seem so happy."

William grinned again and looked down at his briefcase, which he was just starting to pack. He said, "Yes, I am," with gleaming eyes.

Alison's fascination increased as she leaned in closer. She asked, "Care to share the reason behind your jubilation?"

William hesitated for a brief period, his face showing thinking. Then, in a slightly mysterious tone, he said, "It's a business concern with the Montogmerys."

The ambiguous remark couldn't help but irritate Alison a little.

She was intrigued despite the fact that she had gotten accustomed to the frequent opacity surrounding William's business transactions. She snidely said, "You're being secretive again," with a gleam in her eyes.

William smiled and leaned down to give her a soft kiss on the forehead. "You'll soon be aware of all the details, I swear to you, dear. But for the time being, I must deal with it on my own."

Alison nodded, but her intrigue remained unfulfilled. She observed William pack up his things and get ready to go. She said, "Are you going to their office?"

David nodded. "Yes, I must visit Montgomery Enterprise to express my gratitude to the CEO for this recent deal that they have agreed on."

Alison paused for a second, her urge to follow him clear. She inquired with a hopeful tone, "Can I come with you?"

William appeared to be considering her plea as he took a little pause. But after a moment of stillness, he shrugged. He answered tenderly, "I'm afraid not this time, love. This is something that I must tackle on my own. But I'll be back soon, I swear."

William gave Alison one more loving kiss and then walked out of the restaurant, leaving her speechless. She wondered what the secret business arrangement was that had him so excited about as she watched him walk away.

William made a confident entrance inside the Montgomery office building and made eye contact with Lisa, the secretary, before approaching the front desk. He said, "Good afternoon," displaying his charm. "Please arrange a meeting for me with the CEO."

Lisa looked up from her desk while maintaining a professional demeanour. Naturally, Mr. Steele, she retorted. "Let me see if I can check the CEO's schedule for you."

The corporate manager, Annalise, overheard the exchange before Lisa could continue. She showed up on William's side and smiled warmly. She called out, "Mr. Steele," with a kind greeting. "We are glad to see you. I'll accompany you personally to the CEO's office."

William gave her a grateful nod, appreciating her quick response to his request. William walked into the office building and The CEO's office was on the executive floor, so he followed Annalise as she took him there.

When they got to the CEO floor, Annalise turned to William and had a professional conversation with him. "Mr. Steele, kindly take a seat in the waiting room. I'll let the CEO know you're coming so he can make arrangements to be there for your meeting."

William agreed, nodding his head. "I appreciate it, Annalise. I appreciate you helping me."

William remained in the spacious waiting area while Annalise went inside the CEO's office. His thoughts was racing in preparation for the next encounter as he reclined.

Annalise came back into Jason's office, her face displaying a mix of mild perplexity and interest. She walked over to Jason's desk, where he was sitting with a confident smile playing over his lips.

"Sir, Mr Steele is outside wishing to see you," Annalise mentioned.

Jason sat back in his chair and made a small tapping motion with his fingertips on the desk's glossy wood surface.

His eyes twinkled with a tinge of mischief as he gently laughed. "Tell Mr. Steele that he is welcome to a dinner I'll be having tomorrow evening but that he won't be seeing me today."

Annalise raised an eyebrow in wonderment at the abrupt change. "Mr. Montgomery, A dinner, sir? Could you please provide me with further information?"

Jason kept his mysterious smirk on. "The invitation will go to Mr. Steele since it's a private dinner, Annalise. That is all he requires to know at this time."

Annalise followed Jason's directions and left the office to deliver the message to William after having her inquiries ignored.

William was surprised when she told him about the dinner invitation and the new CEO's attendance when she located him in the waiting room.

"A new CEO?" William repeated his surprise. "Annalise, I appreciate you telling me. I'll hold out for the invitation."

Professionally nodding, Annalise saw William leave the organisation while harbouring her own interest in the changes Montgomery Enterprise was undergoing.

However, Jason continued to watch William leave through the window from his office, his eyes twinkling with a mixture of resolve and fury.

"William Steele won't know what hit him," he said under his breath as he clinched his hands.
