After hearing her cuss him out for the last several minutes with words even the demon king didn't know, he was beginning to regret making her his servant. No, she wasn't his servant. The system had designated her as his slave, allowing him full control of all her stats.
[Slave Information]
[Judith]
[Species: Angel]
[Hair: Blonde]
[Eye: Blue]
[Strength: 82]
[Intelligence: 78]
[Stamina: 80]
[Endurance: 99]
[Dexterity: 88]
[Mana: 100]
[As her owner, you can adjust any of her stats at any given time.]
"This wasn't exactly what I had in mind when the system said subjugate," he said as he paused looking at her impressive stats.
Her lowest stat was in the higher range of Legendary. In the party, the highest stat belonged to Grace with a Mana stat of 72. Everyone else had only managed to raise their stats into the epic range before they faced the demon king. The more he looked at it, the more outrageous it was for him to survive thus far.
[You're a demon king now. What did you expect?]
He grimaced. "Making her a slave feels dirty."
[Didn't you want revenge against her?]
"I might have lived her for four years, but where I come from, slavery is wrong." he said. "Besides, I find it disturbing that I can change things like species and eye color. That's something I don't want to have anything to do with."
[It is a disturbing feature. That's why I almost never used it. The only use I could think of the feature is to make slaves more appealing in appearance.]
That was a can of worms he wasn't willing to come within a continent over. The system was really out to make him into the demon king that the angels made them out to be. At least Judith didn't seem to have heard what they were talking about, or she would be even more annoying than she currently was.
"This system interface looks like the angel's so it should work exactly the same. Where are the other features?" he asked.
[You're currently dead. Of course, you can't access all the features. Once you return back to life, you'll have full access to the system.]
"You never did mention how you'll bring me back to life. Does it involve a bunch of human sacrifices?" he asked.
[Would it matter if it did?]
He didn't answer right away. "No, I supposed it doesn't."
[Fortunately for you, it doesn't involve other people. It's a special ability given to every demon king.]
This seemed to draw the angel's attention. "You can't mean—"
She suddenly cut herself off and stared at him with wide eyes. What had made her so panicked? She seemed to know what the demon king was talking about. In fact, he wondered how she even knew what the demon king was saying. He had assumed that since the two systems were different that she couldn't listen in on their conversation.
[Since she's your slave, she is essentially your property, so she is able to perceive me. If she ever lost her status as a slave, she would lose the ability to follow our conversation.]
"Why is your system so talkative?" she demanded. "The system doesn't have a will or personality of its own.
"I don't see why I have to explain anything to you," he said before turning his attention back to the demon king. "So, what is this special ability?"
"Don't you dare tell him anything," she ordered.
[You can turn back time exactly once.]
For a moment, everything seemed to stand still. He was vaguely aware of Judith screaming at the demon king in the background, but his mind was stuck on the bomb the demon king had dropped on him.
Turn back time. It was such an unbelievable tale. If the demon kings could turn back time, why didn't they use it to ensure they weren't defeated? Even if it was only once, they should have been able to use it to their advantage.
"If you can turn back time, why didn't you use it?" he asked when he finally recovered, earning Judith's confusion.
[I already did. A long time ago.]
"Wait. You're the demon king!" she screamed as she pointed at the system message.
They ignored her as Luke's mind swam with possibilities. If he could turn back time, was it possible for him to go back to before he was summoned? No, it wouldn't do him any good. Even if it did work which he doubted, he didn't know how to stop himself from being summoned. He couldn't recall any incident that caused him to end up in this new world.
If he couldn't use it to go home, then he needed to find the right time to go back to. The question was actually how far back he was allowed to go. He would have preferred to go back to the day he was summoned so he could have time to get revenge.
The problem was the demon king would still be alive. Since there were only ever thirteen demon kings, he doubted the system would allow him to go back that far. If that was the case, then the earliest he could go back to was the day he killed the demon king which was a year ago.
A year wasn't enough time for him to become strong enough to survive against the world. Everyone would be coming after him as soon as the demon king was dead. The news of the demon king's death had somehow reached everyone's ears before he returned. He could only assume the angel's had been watching and announced this information to the world to kill him off.
"Demon king, how did you manage to rise into power? From what I know, all the other demon kings slowly grew into their power, but if the angels know when a demon king dies, then I can't see how that's possible," he said.
[I didn't talk with any of the other demon kings about their rise, but I'll let you know it happened for me. I went back to right before I killed the previous demon king.]
"You what?" the angel shrieked. He sighed. She didn't have to scream. He was surprised too, but she didn't need to scream like a banshee. At this rate, his ears were going to go. It was really tempting for him to just kill her and put them both out of their misery."How is that possible? Wouldn't there be a contradiction?" he asked.[Yes, it causes a paradox. So how do you think the paradox is resolved?]Luke had to think about it before saying, "If there are two demon kings for the same position at any one time, I would assume that one of them would have to die."[That's correct. Which of the demon kings do you think will disappear?]"The fact that you were the demon king I fought means you survived," he said. "How?"[The demon's system prioritizes their survival of demons; therefore, it will pick the demon king it believes is the better option. While I was just a newborn, the previous demon king had already used his ability to turn back time and had lost to me already.]"So, it deci
"Hello, young heroes, thank you for answering our summons."Luke started as his mind tried to reorientate itself. Two sets of memories were warring in his mind, preventing him from being able to focus on what the angel in front of him was saying. By the time he had recovered slightly, the angel's speech was over, and several people were raising their hands or shouting at her."Hold on a minute. You can't just force us to be here. We have rights.""There's no way this can be real. Where are the cameras?""Fight? I've never fought in my entire life.""Yeah, why should we fight just because you say so? Send us back home."Suddenly, an unearthly golden glow shined from her form, silencing everyone. One part of his mind found himself at peace while the other part noted that she was using Angel's Aura, an ability all angels had which allowed them to sap a person's will to fight back. It only worked on those with lower stats than the user and didn't have the demonic attribute. The fact he kn
While he laid low, it wouldn't hurt for him to seek out allies. Not everyone had fallen into line with what the angel's wanted. Several had been wary of what the angels had to say. If what his scrambled memories of the future said was true, several people had been very outspoken about not trusting the angels before learning more about the world. Those people would later die under mysterious circumstances. No one had noticed any connections between them since it happened over the first year and in different locations in different ways. One died from a demon attack while another died in a training accident. It was chalked up to be because of how dangerous the world was, and the angels insisted that they be careful so that they wouldn't end up like them.Considering how wide the angels' influence was, it wouldn't be surprising if they got the natives involved to get rid of anyone that could convince the rest of the summoned people to not listen to the angels. He would have to approach th
Luke took the man's hand and said, "My name's Luke."Grace who had been about to take the man's hand had her hand still raised up and stared at him. She was probably confused by why he did that, but he was determined not to let his future party member get snatched up by another party before he had a chance to recruit her. He didn't know why she chose to follow him last time, but he didn't want to take the chance she would go to someone else. Things had already changed from last time because of him."I like your grip, young man," Anthony said. When he approached them, Anthony had only intervened because he couldn't stand men harassing women for no reason. She had obviously been nervous and shouting at her when everyone was just as agitated was absolutely unacceptable. He hadn't expected her to have such a protective boyfriend. He must have made his move too quickly for the boyfriend to act. It was nice to see some people hadn't lost their heads in this mess."Thank you," Luke said as t
"Heroes, thank the heavens you are here."He was beginning to get tired of everyone constantly calling them heroes. He knew it was part of the act but hearing them say one thing when they actually meant another infuriated him since he knew what they were talking about. When they said hero, they were actually calling them sacrifices. Fools. Pawns. He released his grip on Grace as she recovered from the teleportation. Scanning those that had ended up with him, he saw that he had lucked out, and members of his party had been teleported with him. With the sudden urgency from the angels, he hadn't hoped they would join him. If they have been sent to a different country, he would have lost out on recruiting them since traveling between countries wouldn't be easy.He did note that the group was much bigger than he remembered unless he was mistaken. The angels must have increased the group size since they were concerned about the missing demon king that chose this place as his territory.Amon
"You expect me to do what?" she shrieked."Quiet down. Are you trying to tell everyone?" he said as he uncovered his ears."They won't hear us unfortunately. The moment I arrived, I made sure no one would hear or see what we're doing. They'll just think you went to sleep," she said as she crossed her arms.He stared silently at her for a second before saying. "Well, that's mighty convenient."If she could do that all the time, then this was the perfect chance for him to speak with the previous demon king. He wouldn't have to wait for the right time and place to speak with him."I know what you're thinking, but unless you want all the angels to descend onto you, you can't talk to him right now," she said as she flipped her hair. His eyes narrowed. "What do you mean?""Everyone is on high alert for the missing demon king. They assumed he used his ability to turn back time to avoid his death and has gone underground," she said.Their assumption wasn't wrong. They had been on the right tr
"What did you just do?" she asked in barely above a whisper. His brows furrowed as he said, "I refused to let you throw your life away because the system said so."She snapped. "You're a demon. Not just any demon, you're the demon king."He glared as he spat out, "I didn't exactly ask to become the demon king. Whose fault do you think it is that I'm like this?"Even though he knew he was a demon king and the ones in the know also regarded him as a demon king, he hadn't physically nor mentally changed. Everything about him was still human, but that could easily change in the future. He didn't know the exact details of what would happen to him, but he had already decided that if he had no way to return home, that he would become a demon king for revenge. It had been the only path left open to him. To listen to her prattle on about how she expected him to be evil just because he was now a demon set his nerves on edge."Do you want to be treated like a slave so badly? Is that it? Should I
"Hold still. I need to touch your head to do this," she said as she reached out to him. He grimaced. "I don't exactly like this either okay." "You didn't do this last time," he pointed out. "When we summoned all of you, the connection was made the moment you appeared. This time I'm trying to establish a different connection using the old connection and me," she explained. Another thing they did to them without their consent. At this point, he couldn't say he was surprised. It was probably how the angels monitored them. As long as they used the angel's system, there was no way to avoid their eyes. That brought up an important question though. He frowned at the feeling of her hands on his head and asked, "If the connection was established right away, how was I not caught?" "It's because the connection wasn't fully established." At his expression, she continued, "While it's true that we hook you up to the system as soon as you arrive, it's more l
