Chapter 72

"Dad," Nicklaus said, his voice trembling. He couldn't believe that his father was here, and he couldn't believe that he was smiling. "You're proud of me?" he asked, incredulous.

"I always knew you had it in you," Darius said, clapping a hand on his son's shoulder. "You're a chip off the old block." He chuckled, but there was something dark and dangerous in his eyes.

Nicklaus felt a chill run down his spine. He wasn't sure if he should be flattered or terrified.

Josef's heart was pounding in his chest. He had no idea what was going to happen next, and he didn't want to find out. He tried to make himself as small as possible, hoping to go unnoticed by Darius. But as he slipped the gold bars behind his back, he knew it was too late. He had been caught red-handed.

Darius' eyes narrowed as he spotted Josef. "I see you found my stash," he said, his voice low and dangerous.

Darius glanced at Valor the Griffin who looked friendly.
