MY BROTHER’S SON

"You are my brother's son!" Mr Reynolds yelled emotionally and his eyes turned moist.

"What?!" Owen was startled. The man looked somehow crazy to him.

"You're my nephew, Owen." Mr Reynolds said, gaining his composure.

"How?" Owen asked.

"That description of the car that your parents had died in perfectly matches the record that I have of your parents death. Plus your blood resonates with mine." Mr Reynolds said.

"That doesn't confirm anything, there are people out there who probably fall into the same category." Owen replied. There has to be a logical explanation, and there was.

"No Owen. I've been looking for you for years. You see, our family has a special blood that only one in 100 million people can possess.

When the doctor solicited for volunteers, none of their blood was a match with yours so I decided to give it a try, perhaps fate would shine on me today. And it did! I found my long lost nephew!" Mr Reynolds recounted with a smile.

Owen took a glance at Doctor Maya who nodded her head in the affirmative. His blood was really rare and special and she hadn't thought that she would actually get someone who had compatible blood with him.

Owen was lost in thought as he stared at Mr Reynolds who kept staring at him with a warming gaze. What exactly was the relevance in all this?

Owen had just lost everything, his wife and his job. Surely, fate had chosen to make him discover his long lost family for some reason?

"What does this signify now?" Owen asked Mr Reynolds. He was already a grown man. It was too late for him to be playing child with some family.

Mr Reynolds smiled faintly upon hearing his question and then became solemn.

"You have to come to inherit your father's legacy. It's why I've searched for you all this while." Mr Reynolds explained.

"Legacy?" Owen muttered. Had the old man gone crazy now?

"Yes." Mr Reynolds answered. "Your father's legacy and his whole inheritance has been waiting for you. Everyone is waiting for you." He said.

"I still don't understand." Owen replied in confusion. "Who are the people waiting for me?"

"I will answer all your questions, young master. But for now I have to go and share the good news and wait for you to recover.

When you leave here, then I can explain everything to you in detail." Mr Reynolds replied.

Owen was still staring blankly when Mr Reynolds pushed a phone into his hands.

"You can register your information on that phone. I have already put some money there for you to manage until you get out of here. Think of it as pocket money." Mr Reynolds said with a wink.

He seemed very enthusiastic to go.

The doctor, Maya, who was still in the room coughed slightly to remind them of her presence.

"If that is all that you have to say then you will have to excuse Mr Hudson so he can rest and recover properly." She said to Mr Reynolds.

"Yes, I surely understand." Then he turned to Owen. "I'll be back to pick you up when you're discharged." He said with a smile.

"Till we meet again!" He said with a booming voice as he walked out of the ward with the doctor right behind him. He seemed very happy.

Owen stared at the door in a daze. He was still finding it hard to digest what he had just heard.

He had an inheritance and a legacy to take over? How? What people were waiting for him?

He had been unable to ask Mr Reynolds any further questions because it still didn't make sense to him.

His eyes drifted to the phone that Mr Reynolds had given him and he painstakingly lifted it and registered his fingerprint.

Then he checked his account balance as Mr Reynolds had said he left some pocket money for him there.

The amount of money he saw made his jaw drop to the ground in disbelief. He rubbed his eyes fiercely to see if he was hallucinating and he checked again. But the result was the same.

Ten billion dollars was in his account!

Owen's mouth was wide agape and it took a few minutes for him to recover himself and confirm it wasn't a dream.

He began to ponder on what Mr Reynolds had said: He had a legacy and an inheritance to claim. Didn't that mean that he was now crazy rich?

Even the amount of money in his account balance was able to change his life in a 360 direction but Mr Reynolds had called it pocket change.

It made him wonder what kind of family he was born into.

As Owen was still in shock and processing everything that had happened to him that morning, the door of his ward went wide open and two women walked in with disdain and contempt written all over their faces.

Owen knew these two women well. It was Megan and her mother, Rebecca.

"Just look at you..." Rebecca spat. "A failure of a man. You can't even take care of your wife like a proper man...

I knew that you never deserved my daughter, you piece of scum! Look at you now." She said with a raised voice.

Owen's heart hurt from the hateful words Rebecca was saying to him and he turned his gaze to Megan, hoping that she would say something better and maybe comforting. But his expectations were dashed in pieces.

"I want a divorce, Owen." Megan said without hesitation.

Owen felt a jolt of surprise run through him.

"What?!" Owen stuttered. "No Megan, we can resolve this..."

"Are you deaf, Owen?" Megan cut him off with an angry glare.

"I guess the accident messed with your hearing... I WANT A DIVORCE!" She repeated loudly this time.

Owen stared at her in disbelief, his heart felt like it was stabbed with thousands of needles. He had done so much for the sake of this woman and yet she wanted to divorce him just like that.

"You don't have to go that far because of Mr Martin..."

Megan angrily pulled a document out of her bag and threw it on Ethan's face.

"I'll be going to get an abortion. Make sure to sign those divorce papers before I return.

I want nothing to do with you." Megan said as she walked out of the door with her mother. Rebecca also glared at him with a sneer as they both left.

"Abortion?!" Owen muttered in disbelief. He couldn't believe his ears.
