7. The mother-in-law's lies

Warrick noticed the fear in Evie's expression as he mentioned her name to customer service. Immediately, he learned that his mother-in-law was lying about knowing an Emerald Bank executive.

"Why must you panic, Mom? Is it because you don't have any connections at Emerald Bank?"

Evie became nervous as people stared suspiciously at her. Stammering, she replied, "D-Don't talk nonsense! That's slander. You have no proof of your accusations!"

"I only did what you did to me," Warrick shrugged. "In case you forgot, you also accused me of using a fake black card."

The people who had been silent began to whisper, talking about the problem between Evie and Warrick.

"I know that woman. She's the wife of Chafort Entertainment's owner. And the girl next to her is Jane Chafort, a new actress known for working on films with renowned people."

"Huh? But as far as I know, the Chafort family has no connection with Emerald Bank."

"You're right. Emerald Bank is owned by the Nerelart family. My friend is a part of the Nerelart family and he never talks about Evie or Jane."

Jane tightened her hands in frustration at the people's whispers. They should have been talking about Warrick. She intended to embarrass Warrick, but people ended up gossiping about her mother instead!

As more and more people gossiped, Jane decided to turn the tables.

"Warrick, you have no manners! The woman you're slandering is your mother-in-law. Have you forgotten that we gave you thirty thousand dollars for Aelish's surgery?"

Jane thought Warrick would stop making a fuss. After all, she and her mother had been kind to Aelish. Unfortunately, Warrick did not consider their efforts as kindness.

"Gave me money? The truth is you loaned me money," Warrick corrected Jane's words. "I paid off my debt with 30% interest for a year!"

People gasped in shock after hearing Warrick's statement. They were aware of the scandal involving Mathew Chafort and Kaitlyn, a well-known singer. Their affair resulted in the birth of Aelish.

Despite Mathew's cheating, Aelish had done nothing wrong. How could Evie be so cruel to Aelish and Warrick?

They had also heard rumors that Mathew was neglecting Aelish. He was the one who brought Aelish into this world, but he refused to accept responsibility.

On the other hand, Jane was at a loss for words as everyone looked at her with disgust. She planned to make her image look better. But Warrick ruined her plan.

Warrick walked up to Jane. "Instead of talking nonsense, you must use your time to learn acting. Do you have any idea what people call you?"

"I-I don't understand. I'll stop so you should stop talking too," Jane said, feeling Warrick was about to throw a bomb at her.

"Your nickname is The Nepotism Actress. You can play in big movies because of your family's help. But your acting is terrible. The kids playing Barbies are better than you."

After delivering the ultimate attack, Warrick asked Aelish to leave the store, ignoring the stunned people.

No one expected Warrick to offend Jane so blatantly. Even though Jane's acting was poor, any celebrity would be afraid to criticize her because of her family background.

A senior actor once commented on Jane's acting in an action movie. One day later, he made a post apologizing.

Since then, no one had dared to touch Jane. Despite Mathew's several scandals, CFT Entertainment remained dominant in the industry.

"Honey, we better get out of here," Evie hurriedly pulled Jane out of the store. She could no longer bear the insults Warrick threw at her. She vowed revenge!

Meanwhile, Warrick smiled happily as he completed the quest.

"Your late mother? That means... Mrs. Grace Vernidras?"

"Yes. I'm glad you know my mother's surname."

Aelish fell silent. In Radix, the country's economy was controlled by large conglomerate families called the Orchid Combine.

The Vernidras and Rauveron families belonged to the Orchid Combine. To strengthen their power, Grace had a political marriage with Ernest Rauveron.

The Vernidras family's main business was in technology. The products produced by Energia Electronics sold well in Radix and other countries.

But what Aelish knew was that the Vernidras family had also neglected Warrick after Grace's death. Rumor had it that the Vernidras deliberately did not leave Grace's fortune to Warrick because he was stupid.

A man with shoulder-length curly hair was wiping the blood from his dagger. He sat on a heap of unconscious people. Around his neck was a bloody whip.

The slashes on the people's bodies revealed that the man had thrashed them all.

The man glanced at the young man standing nervously before him. "You said our people were defeated by Warrick Rauveron?"

"Y-Yes! I went to the bridge because they weren't answering my calls. When I got there, I saw they had been defeated. Someone who was still conscious informed me that it was Warrick's doing."

Instead of being outraged, the man laughed so hard that his shoulders shook.

"B-Boss Kaden, what's wrong?" the young man stammered in fear.

Kaden stopped laughing. He licked his dagger and said, "Zayden asked me to finish Warrick. But I found something interesting instead. It looks like Zayden will have a hard time because his opponent is not as weak as he thought."

"What should we do, Boss? If we fail to satisfy Zayden's request, he will be furious," the young man became worried at the thought of Zayden going insane.

"Of course, we should send S-level fighters to destroy Warrick!"
