Ungrateful Apologies

"We need to find a new apartment. Our former one is no longer save..." Henry told his mother when they arrived home.

Josephine wanted to turn down the idea but after seeing what happened earlier, it was best they packed out of their current apartment.

"They'll continue to hunt us. It's no use running away." Josephine said.

Holding his mother's hand, Henry careful explained, "I'll find a way to pay them back. but first, I need to ensure you're save. This people are dangerous."

Nodding, the both of them spend their time packing their precious belongings. After they were done, Henry flagged down a taxi and helped put their small luggages into the car.

"Take us to south town,"Henry told the driver their address and the car drove off.

"Henry, you shouldn't have been so impulsive just now..."

As Josephine spoke, she glanced worriedly at Henry in the car.

Henry cut her off before she could say anything more, assuring her, "Mom, don't worry. It'll be fine."

Josephine could not calm her fears because she knew that her son had simply stated this out of fear for her concern.

When they arrived at their new apartment, Josephine was surprised that Henry was able to secure such small, but nice house for themselves.

Henry had been saving for years to buy that apartment in case things went wrong someday,. he'll be able to know where to hide. And gladly he did and it turned out that his decision had saved them.

She also noticed that Henry had changed a little since then. Not only was he not as strong as he was in the past, but he was also not as impetuous. She even had a suspicion that Henry's peculiar behavior was the result of her putting too much strain on him due to her prolonged illness.

Henry took a few items that he felt were essential, brought his mother home, and then departed.

He had, after all, insulted the Wayne family family, and he had no idea when they would reach out to him.

Henry would not take any chances if he could avoid them, even though he was not afraid because he still had his mother and wife.

Naturally, Josephine didn't complain, knowing full well that her son was doing this to avoid the Anderson family. They rented a little house together in the southern part of the city.

Henry took a few days to absorb the exceptional powers he had been given after he settled in.

He'd barely been done honing his powers when his Emily called.

Emily's icy voice answered the phone once she had picked it up. "Where have you been these days? Why haven't you returned home?" she asked.

Henry had spent the last few days fully engaged in his training. Then it dawned on him that his wife and her family were back from their summer vacation. "I'm sorry, Emily, I just..." was his brief explanation.

Emily gave Henry absolutely no chance. She abruptly interrupted him, "If you really don't want to stay in my house, then please tell me. Don't just leave without a word. I will never let you stay. You should be glad that it wasn't my mother who called you. If it was her, I don't think you would be so calm."

"I sincerely apologize, I have changed apartment due to some reason. I'm sorry I never informed you" Henry replied. "My mother has just been discharged from the hospital and is still very weak, so I found a place to take care of her."

Henry wasn't upset, even though Emily's tone wasn't the best.

Because Emily's family was better off, Henry had always been looked down upon by Emily's family during their marriage.

Henry hadn't gone out looking for work because he also needed to take care of his ailing mother. Because he had accomplished nothing, Emily's family began to hold him in even lower regard.

Henry recognized that Emily still had feelings for him and his mother, even though she was a little let down by him. If not, she would not have assisted him in covering his mother's medical costs.

Henry thought that he would be able to accomplish something and not let Emily down now that he had inherited the heavenly doctor's inheritance.

After hearing Henry's statements, Emily seemed to have lost some of her fury. "Tell me where you are, and I'll go find you now." She said directly.

Henry believed she was on her way to get him. Even more moved, he gave her the address right away.

Soon afterward, a white car was found stopping at the front of Henry's apartment.

A stunning woman stepped out of the vehicle.

But there was something icy about her expression, like she was about to freeze someone to death.

She was Emily, Henry's wife.

She scowled as she looked at Henry's modest rental home. "Why didn't you rent a better house? A good environment will be good for your mother's recovery."

Henry stretched his hands and shrugged. "I have no choice, this is all I have."

Emily merely shook her head and remained silent. She opened the car and got out a few bottles. All of them were vitamin-like supplements. She removed a black card as well. "There's 75,000 dollars in this card. Take it. These supplements are for your mother."

"No need, my mother doesn't need to undergo surgery. The money that was transferred last time is still there." Henry graciously declined.

Emily may have appeared aloof, but her behavior showed that she was barely a good woman who still cared for something.

Emily shoved it straight into Henry's hands, showing no concern at all. "Don't think about your dignity as a man here. If you really had other ways, you wouldn't have been a failure all these years and be looked down upon by my family."

There was no hint of irony in Emily's words. That was Henry's painful reality.
