Micheal woke up in a room, white walls surrounding him. Blinking away grogginess, he looked around and realized he was in a luxurious suite, far different from his expectations.
He heard soft beeping filling the air.
" Where am I?" He asked himself as he tried to sit up.
With his gaze searching around, he saw that he was in a hospital room. It was one that exudes luxury. The soft sheets, ornate furniture, and muted lighting were a stark contrast to the ground he had been lying on moments before. Confusion gripped him as he tried to piece together what had happened.
The door creaked open, and a nurse entered. "Good to see you are finally awake, young master, you've been in a coma for a week."
"A week?" Michael croaked, disbelief evident in his voice.
"Yes, young master." The nurse responded with a happy glint spread around her face, bowing.
Micheal could not understand. Why was she calling him young master? Was he mistaken for someone else?
Before he could get a full grasp of the situation, the door opened and a man dressed in white walked in with eagerness.
"The doctor is here." The nurse announced. "Mr Imperial is finally awake..."
"It is good to see you are finally with us, young master. My team has been working all week to ensure your safety. It is an honor to be of service to the great Imperial family."
The doctor also bowed to him, leaving Micheal in the deepest state of confusion.
"Mr Imperial...?"
Nobody knew him as an Imperial. It was a name he had dropped a long time ago when he was a child and he lost his parents. Since then, he had lost all connections to his old family. There was no way in the world anyone would know about him or his relationship with the Imperials.
But why were they calling him that? Definitely he had been mistaken for someone else. Someone very wealthy and influential. That was why they were treating him like a prince, giving him all these special treatments which he could not pay for.
Micheal was familiar with medical personnels. Sooner or later, they would ask for payment. An hospital as luxurious as this would charge heavily to match. There was no way he could settle their bills. He was a poor and broke fellow, Melissa was his only hope.
"I need to make a phone call to my wife. She might help to settle the bills..."
"What do you mean, young master?" The doctor said, looking surprised. "But the bills have already been settled."
"Settled? Settled by who?"
Right then and there, the door opened and in came a group of three men, looking like the squad of wealth picked right out of a fantasy world.
Each of them looked resplendent in their exquisite clothes, screaming millions of dollars. It was obvious that these people were extremely rich, and yet somehow they all bowed to Micheal as they approached.
The one in front spoke, his head bent a little. "Young master, it is great to see you again after all these years."
"Who... Who are you?"
"You do not remember me. My name is Morgan, your parents saved my life many years ago when I was dying. My parents could not afford the medical bills, your father paid it all. Since then, my family has been indebted to yours."
"Morgan..."
Micheal could recall it bit by bit. Back when he was a child, his parents had taken him along on one of their visits to the community hospitals. There was a boy who caught his attention. He was one of the little patients and they were around the same age.
"My name is Micheal, what about you?"
"Morgan..."
Before anyone knew it, they had become friends on that same day.
"Mom, can he come home with us?"
"No, Micheal. This is his place, he cannot leave."
"But why? Why do other kids get to play around and he doesn't??"
"Because he is ill. He does not have the strength to act like his mates."
"When will he get better?"
"When the doctors perform his surgery..."
"Why won't they perform the surgery today?"
Seeing how persistent her son was, Micheal's mother made inquiries about the little sick boy. The boy needed urgent surgery, but his parents had no money. So the couple paid for the little boy's operation, and the surgery was a success. His family was grateful to Micheal's parents and they decided to work for his family. Micheal also became good friends with the boy and they played together from that time onwards.
But that was many years ago, they had not seen each other since Micheal lost his parents.
"Young master, I have been sent by your grandfather. It is time you return home and take your place as the heir to the entire Imperial fortunes."
That sounded like rubbish to Micheal's ears. Since the death of his parents, he had been abandoned by his grandfather, by the entire Imperial family. They left him to suffer for many years and now suddenly, they appear out of nowhere to call him back home?
"You are the heir to the greatest empire in the world of business. If you take this chance, you might just be the most powerful man in the country. Please consider it."
No... This was too much for him to accept.
"Just leave. I don't want to even think about it."
"No matter what you remember about him. He is still your grandfather. And he has regretted his actions. Which is why he wants you back now. Please think about it."
Morgan bowed his head, and so did the other two men behind him. They exited the hospital, leaving Micheal to dive into his own thoughts.
****************
"You are free to go now sir. It was really an honor serving you."
Micheal had spent a few more days at the luxurious hospital and the word sir still felt absurd to his ears. Now he was about to be discharged but there was nowhere he could go.
He had no home, he had no destination. All he ever knew was living as an orphan and having no place to call his own all his life. Now rejected by Melissa, there was only one place he could return to.
"I need to go back to my foster father's mansion. Maybe they would welcome me."
Martins had always treated him like a son since he did not have one himself. Before his death, he ensured that Melissa's parents agreed to the marriage between Micheal and Melissa after Micheal expressed his interests in the Kingston family's daughter.
Most of Martin's riches and establishments no longer had an owner, as his will had not been announced by his attorney yet. Yet everyone believed that Martins left nothing for Micheal, and that all his wealth would go to charity.
"Mr Martins would rather give to the motherless homes than leave his company to a loser like that."
"But still, Micheal is his son under the law. He must surely receive some of his wealth..."
"Mr Martins already gave him a fortune when he married Melissa Kingston. He does not deserve even that."
No one expected that Martins would pick his foster son ahead of his real family members. He would rather just give it all to charity.
As Micheal stood before the door, he knocked slowly.
A crack appeared and a face peeped through it.
"You... What do you want?" It was the maid, Tamara.
"I have just come to stay here for a few days. I will be gone before you know it."
"But..." Tamara was stammering. Micheal could tell that something was wrong.
"What is it?" Micheal pulled forward, finding his way into the house. What awaited him was a surprise.
In a black leather shit, glimmering like a younger version of herself was Mrs Katelyn Kingston, Melissa's mother.
Beside her were two other men. One of them was Modrich, Melissa's brother while the other was none other than Jude Benedict, the late Martin's attorney. They were all staring into a particular document when Micheal barged into their presence, forcing them to all look up at once.
"What are you doing?" He asked.
"You low thing! You have the guts to come here?" Melissa's mother replied with her foul words, not bothering to give him a response.
"My father trusted you, Mr Benedict. Do not tell me you are conniving with these people." Micheal faced the lawyer. He could smell that something was going on here, and it was something really bad.
"I am sorry, Micheal. But you have no rights to anything here. I am giving everything Mr Martins ever owned to the Kingstons!"
"That is not possible." Micheal refuted flatly. "My grandfather would never wish for this. He would rather sell it all and give the money to the orphanage than allow it to go this way."Attorney Benedict responded with a smirk. "Your father? You seem to forget where you belong, Micheal. The orphanages. Mr Martins saw you as just another charity case."His words were spoken with a cold sting, piercing into Micheal's heart and causing deep pain. Mrs Kingston and her son could be heard laughing in mockery, happy that Micheal had been disgraced like that by his foster father's lawyer."If you have nothing else to say, you can step out now. We are quite busy right now as you can see."Benedict showed him the door. Micheal could not believe it. The man his father trusted with all his life and properties had been bought away by the deceitful games of the Kingstons. He was going to give possession of everything to them!"This is not right..." He mumbled, still unable to come to terms with thi
"What did you say Micheal did? Are you sure about this?"Melissa was stunned at the news which her brother had presented to her. She could not believe that her ex husband could one day grow the nerves or the guts to ever look her family in the face, not to talk of disrespecting them in front of others."I am sure about what I am saying, sister. He tried to physically attack me and mother, he even punched me in the face. The lawyer Benedict was there! You can ask him!"He showed her a reddened part of his face as evidence of Micheal's brutality. It was all a lie, he made himself up to look that way."And when he was taken away by the Colwill girl, he threatened to destroy us and everything we have."Melissa's eyes grew deep with doubts. The words her brother spoke made no sense to her. Not only did Micheal do the impossible by attacking her family, he also found a way to be friends with a member of the Colwills? No. This must be a joke. She turned to her mother, hoping to hear that Mod
"I'm guessing that would be your former wife on the phone." Alegria Colwill noted as Micheal replaced his phone into his pocket.Former wife? Micheal scoffed. His divorce with Melissa was only a few days ago, but it seemed like everybody knew about it already. Even the ever busy Alegria Colwill."Stop with the pity face. I had to make my research about you before coming out here." Alegria added, noticing the look of surprise that Micheal wore. She was indeed a perfect beauty, with the confidence of a tigress and an aura of class. There was no way she would naturally take heed to lazy rumors be it from other people's lips or from the news channels. Especially since the story was about the Kingstons who were far lower than the Colwills in the ranking of the class of families.Besides, Micheal realized that there was not much connection between the Colwills and the Imperials. The Imperials were way above the level of the Colwills as it was with anybody else, but he could not understand
Leo Dane was in his well furnished apartment, reeking of immense wealth and riches. He was having a sumptuous meal with his wife when one of his house maids came to meet him with an announcement."Sir, your visitors are here to see you.""My visitors..." He suddenly recalled that he had a meeting with a representative of the Anderson family today. It had skipped his mind for a moment."Sure sure. Let them in."Peter Anderson and Melissa walked into the beautiful interiors of Dane's abode. Such a beauty it was, and they could not deny it."Welcome, you two." Dane's wife welcomed them joyfully. She looked particularly happy to receive them even though she had no idea that her husband had a meeting with anyone in their home today. "It pleases my heart to see young couples in love. You both look so beautiful together."Her words made Melissa blush, and Peter responded with a smile as they were offered a seat at the dining hall with the Danes."I don't recall asking you to bring your wife
Realizing that the man whom he ordered to be taken care of by Peter Anderson might be the heir to the Imperial holdings, Leo Dane scrambled his way towards his own gate, his tail between his legs."Where is he?!" He screamed at the security men. None of them could grasp what he meant at once."Sir.. who.. who are you talking about...?"Agitated, he grabbed one of them by the collar and dragged him closer. "The strange man who wanted to see me, where is he now?"His voice held a dark glint, sufficient enough to ring the bell of memories. "The low life? Mr Anderson asked us to get rid of him as soon as we were done teaching him a lesson. Just as you asked."Leo Dane's eyes furrowed in rage. What have they done? To Michael Imperial? To Albert Imperial's grandson?! He knew for sure he was in trouble now, and all this was because of that one dumb man - Peter Anderson."That son of a bitch!!"He dragged the poor security man even closer by his collar. "Go out there now and find that stran
The private jet landed with a resounding smoothness. It was like a golden bird landing from the skies, coloured in the shiny stripes of silver. The door spread open like a shooting row of steps, leading all the way down to the feet of the waiting crew.Leo Dane, his wife and his men stood in anticipation, ready to welcome Albert Imperial into his humble abode. No matter how wealthy Dane had now become, it was all due to the Imperial influence and his money was nothing compared to what the Imperials had. This was why he had a strong feeling of paranoia as his boss approached closer. How would he tell him that he had turned away his grandson right at his gates? And that too after subjecting him to physical assault?"It is nice to finally see you after all these while, Leo. I can see you're making the most of your time off from duty." Albert Imperial met Leo Dane with a smile, putting a hand on his shoulder. One could tell that the chairman was weak from the way he walked and talked. Ye
" Peter, what just happened?" Melissa asked immediately she noticed Peter stopped the car. He reversed and packed by the side of the road. She knew that the very short conversation he had just had with his father didn't turn out well." What's going on Peter, answer me? What did he say happened?" She asked again, the tension palpable in the air that instant as she noticed her husband's formerly happy demeanor contort into a frown." I don't know Melissa, I don't know!" He said, raising his voice. " I don't even understand why my dad is mad" " He told me to find a solution to the problem I caused"" Problem?" Melissa asked shocked " What problem? We've just met the personal assistant to the chairman himself. This man also holds a great position in Imperial Holdings, how could there be a problem?"And, we've got proofs too. Didn't you tell him?" Melissa asked." How could I when he hung up already before I even got the chance to say Jack Robinson" Peter muttered." W.. what's going on
" Good morning Mr. Imperial" a lady with a honey-brown long ponytail and glasses greeted as the new CEO of the Imperial Holdings walked into the building that bright, sunny morning. " I'm here to assist you with your duties and also help you with handling anything you might need help with" she said as she hastened her steps to catch up with her new boss. " And you're?" Micheal simply asked without turning to face her. " Your secretary" she answered. She was to be his secretary and had been assigned to him on the chairman's orders. He only nodded and continued moving. His grandfather had prepared everything upon his arrival. Although, there were still some things he had to sort out first. Things like getting late Martin's assets away from those pesky evil families. The staff present at the company's very exquisite lounge all stood amazed with deep respect and awe as they watched the young gentleman clad in the latest tuxedo design walk in with a confident gait and stride. He had
