Chapter three

"That is not possible." Micheal refuted flatly. "My grandfather would never wish for this. He would rather sell it all and give the money to the orphanage than allow it to go this way."

Attorney Benedict responded with a smirk. "Your father? You seem to forget where you belong, Micheal. The orphanages. Mr Martins saw you as just another charity case."

His words were spoken with a cold sting, piercing into Micheal's heart and causing deep pain. Mrs Kingston and her son could be heard laughing in mockery, happy that Micheal had been disgraced like that by his foster father's lawyer.

"If you have nothing else to say, you can step out now. We are quite busy right now as you can see."

Benedict showed him the door. Micheal could not believe it. The man his father trusted with all his life and properties had been bought away by the deceitful games of the Kingstons. He was going to give possession of everything to them!

"This is not right..." He mumbled, still unable to come to terms with this evil reality.

"And what are you going to do about it, you lowlife?" Melissa's mother butted in a fiery tone. She had always hated Micheal even since Martins was still alive, treating him with disdain and disgust.

"You are just a nobody who has nothing. You leeched off my daughter and my family for three good years, consider this as our compensation for putting up with a loser like you."

Modrich clung closer to Micheal and whispered in his ears. "I think you should get on your knees and beg for mercy. Maybe mother would consider giving you a job since you have nobody to leech off anymore. How would you like to clean my shoes for a start uhh? You used to do that for Melissa a lot, what's holding you back now, you slave?" He finished off with an annoying laugh, loud and scornful.

Micheal only brushed him off. He did not need to exchange words with someone like Modrich who only took pleasure in talking down on lesser people. He only wanted Martin's properties in safe hands, and the Braxtons were symbolic for anything but safety. They would ruin everything that Martins spent his entire life building just so to elevate their level of riches and power. As his foster grandson and the last close family member that Martin had left, Micheal felt strongly that he had to stop this takeover.

He leaned closer towards Benedict. "Please... You cannot do this."

But the reply was cold and dismissive. "It is already done."

Micheal was taken aback once more, unsure of how else to deal with this.

"Ohh! I'm tired of this hopelessness disturbing our business, someone called the security already!"

"Yes mom. Do not worry, I got this." Happily, Modrich ushered in the security from outside. "Handle this piece of shit and throw him out!"

Seven men dressed in black raced into the building, all with metal batons. Each of them prowled like a vicious dog, obedient to the commands of the Kingstons. They were about to pounce on Micheal.

"How dare you?" Another voice came from the door, stopping every bit of action.

At the door stood a woman of unparalleled beauty, tall and vibrant, dressed in the mixed shades of black and gray. Her majestic voice was enough to command an aura of silence as she walked with grace into the scene.

"Who is she?"

"She is so gracious..."

Mrs Kingston's security men were lost in their thoughts.

"Do you know her, mom?" Modrich whispered to his mother, drooling with obsession.

"No. Maybe she is a friend of Melissa's. She looks super classy."

Behind the ravishing beauty of a woman was a seven feet tall man, extremely huge and muscular. He was obviously her bodyguard, and his presence was a symbol of huge intimidation to the other guards.

Mrs Kingston stepped forward in hopes that this woman had come to see her, but the lady brushed past her and headed towards Micheal instead.

The woman stopped in front of him.

"Michael Imperial..." She made a low gasp. "I have heard so much about you..."

She stared at him in awe and respect, leaving everyone in dismay, Micheal himself included.

"Who are you?" He asked her, he had never seen her before. Why did she look at him with so much glimmer on her face, with so much happiness.

"Not often do I have to introduce myself, but for you I'll make an exception. My name is Alegria Colwill, heir to the Max Establishments. My father was good friends with yours."

"Max Establishments? Algeria Colwill?"

A wave of murmur emanated around the two of them.

"Isn't Max Establishments the company that father has been trying to forge an alliance with for years now?" Modrich whispered in his mother's ears, shocked to his bones.

"They have never given us an audience." Mrs Kingston's eyes grew bigger. "How could she be here right now??"

Alegria Colwill was a name common among the lips of every business minded family. A prodigy she was referred to, elevating the status of her family's business in just a few years of taking over from her father. Other business tycoons wished that their children would be like her.

Melissa's father had been trying to forge a long lasting relationship with the Colwill family just like he did with the Andersons, hoping that his son could steal the heart of their famous daughter. But it was an impossible task, nobody knew Algeria's daily routine. She was all about work and growth.

That was why the Kingstons had decided to take over Martin's businesses. It was a self sustaining company, quite successful for its size. If they offered it to the Colwills, it could actually help them to build a bridge.

"What do you want from me?" Micheal stared into Alegria's eyes, unmoved by her influence. He had heard some things about Algeria back when he was still married to Melissa and living with the Kingstons, but he could not understand why she was here for him.

"It's a topic we should discuss privately. I need you to come with me".

Micheal needed not object. He casted a last glance at Attorney Benedict who had betrayed his foster grandfather's memory. There was no remorse on Benedict's face, only surprise. It was the same with the Kingstons.

"I promise you, I will not let you achieve your plans." He declared.

As Micheal followed Alegria, the seven security guards moved away from his path in fear. No one dared to stand in his way.

When he was gone, Mrs Kingston began to ramble. "You all are useless! Why could you not do something about that?! Seven of you, all in fear of one man?! What do we pay you for??"

"Mom," Modrich pulled his mother aside. "This is serious. We should tell Melissa."

"You are right for the first time, Modrich. As crazy as it sounds, it looks like low life Micheal has made friends with the Colwills. Meaning they may no longer be our best option. We have to reach higher, we have to approach the Imperials with this deal!"

*********************

In the car, Algeria Colwill was seated right beside Micheal.

"So what is it you want from me?" He demanded.

"She is with me." A voice came from the front seat.

"Morgan?"

"Nice to see you again, Mr Imperial."

Micheal could not believe it. Morgan was working together with Alegria Colwill just to convince him to go back home and be the heir to the Imperial wealth?

"I told you, I am not interested." He made himself clear once again.

"Yes, Morgan delivered your message." Alegria slid in. "But the case is different now."

"How so?"

Alegria and Morgan exchanged gazes.

"Your grandfather has come down with a terrible illness, and he does not trust anyone to hand over the reins to. He wants you back. He wants you to take his place as soon as possible."
