Chapter four

"What did you say Micheal did? Are you sure about this?"

Melissa was stunned at the news which her brother had presented to her. She could not believe that her ex husband could one day grow the nerves or the guts to ever look her family in the face, not to talk of disrespecting them in front of others.

"I am sure about what I am saying, sister. He tried to physically attack me and mother, he even punched me in the face. The lawyer Benedict was there! You can ask him!"

He showed her a reddened part of his face as evidence of Micheal's brutality. It was all a lie, he made himself up to look that way.

"And when he was taken away by the Colwill girl, he threatened to destroy us and everything we have."

Melissa's eyes grew deep with doubts. The words her brother spoke made no sense to her. Not only did Micheal do the impossible by attacking her family, he also found a way to be friends with a member of the Colwills? No. This must be a joke.

She turned to her mother, hoping to hear that Modrich was only playing pranks on her, but Eleana Kingston's expressions only confirmed the assertions of her son.

"It is true, Melissa. Apparently, that dumb headed pigeon has become a threat that we didn't see coming. If he says something bad about us to the Colwills, we may lose our chance to forge an alliance with them. You have to do something about him. Find a way, keep him in check. He must not stand in the way of our plans." Eleana Kingston backed her son up. They had both planned all these together.

Melissa grabbed her phone immediately. She did not want to believe that Micheal had gotten over her already, or that he had grown the balls to speak or act against her. She dialed his number and waited for him to pick.

Micheal was still with Morgan and Alegria Colwill when he saw Melissa's call. He wanted to ignore it at first, but something pushed him to pick it up.

"Hello Melissa..."

"You Michael! Is it true what my brother said?"

"What did he say?"

"How dare you ask me questions? And how dare you disrespect my family? Is this because I left you for a better man? Have you forgotten what you are?"

"The rightful owner of late Martin's properties which your family is trying to steal?"

Melissa was shocked with his response. She had never expected him to speak back to her like that. He had always treated her like a queen, going on his knees to beg her at every single provocation, so she did not see this coming.

"Did you just accuse my family of theft? How dare you ever accuse my family of anything, you low thing? We took care of your sorry ass for three good years!"

"See, Melissa. My life just took a severe turn and I am still trying to cope with it. I do not have the time for your tantrums as I have other things to worry about." The call ended.

He hung up on her? He cut the phone on her?

"What...?"

Melissa stood with her back against her mother and her brother. Her skin stung with grave annoyance. How dare Micheal ever take a stand against her? He had always been obedient to her, doing everything she ever asked with immediate effect. He was more like a slave than a husband, how dare that slave try to become a master?? She needed to put him back to his place.

"This is sheer disrespect. If you have nothing to do about this, then I will have to tell father." Modrich said, knowing that this would trigger his sister. Melissa always hated when someone in the family doubted her competence. All her life, she had been proving herself to her father, he would be disappointed if she came to meet him with a problem as small as this.

"Father doesn't have to be involved."

"But it seems you're not ready to teach your ex husband a lesson despite what he did to me and mother. Do you still have feelings for him?"

"You!" Melissa's eyes shot angry, and Modrich stopped himself. He knew better than to infuriate her further.

"I said father does not have to be involved." She made herself clear once again, exhibiting her dominance in the room.

"Then do you have a plan?" Her mother asked.

"No... Not yet...."

"I have a plan!"

They all turned in the direction of the voice. It was Peter Anderson, Melissa's new husband and it seemed that he had listened to every word that was exchanged in that room.

Peter walked towards the three of them in his tall posture, exhibiting a mean demeanor as he stood right in front of Melissa's brother.

"Did you say that no name Micheal has a friend in the Colwill family?"

"Yes..." Modrich stuttered.

"Interesting..." Peter said calmly, but one could see the evil aura building up within him.

"I don't want you to get involved with someone as low as him, Peter...."

"No." He cut his wife short. "He disrespected your family, that means he has disrespected my family. And if anyone disrespects my family, I have to make them pay."

"That's what I'm talking about!" Modrich burst into a joyous smile.

"So what is the plan?" Melissa asked.

"The Imperials."

"The Imperials?" Everybody else repeated in chorus, unsure what exactly it was that Peter Anderson was talking about.

Just then, a call came into Peter's phone. It was his father.

"Hello father." He put it on a loudspeaker.

"Your meeting has been arranged with Leo Dane. He is the closest man to Albert Imperial. You know what this means, son? This means we are one step closer to achieving partnership with the Imperials. Don't mess this up."

"Sure, father. I will make you proud."

The call ended just then.

"What? You're going to meet with the Imperials??"

Melissa was stunned. Peter had not told her about this before. While her family was still struggling to make friends with the Colwills, the Andersons were already in talks with the highest esteemed Imperials. She definitely made the right choice dumping that loser Micheal to marry Peter. Once again, she commended herself.

"Yes, my dear. And I want you to come with me. Nobody is above the Imperials, not even the Colwills. With them by our side, we can deal with that nuisance ten times over."

The two of them held hands. Family was what brought them together, not love, but they really did share a lot in common. Their quest for dominance, their desire for control. This was the beginning of the fulfillment for them.

The Imperials were the greatest family group of companies in the nation. Any and every group who sided with them had always benefited massively. Theirs would not be any different. For years, Peter Anderson's father and grandparents had been pursuing the dream of allying with the Imperials. And now the dream is about to be fulfilled, with Peter himself being the spearhead for his family, chosen ahead of his cousins. He had always wanted this.

With this level of elevation, no one would dare stand against him again. All heads shall bow and all knees shall bend. The ones that refuse would meet their end in the most tragic of ways, especially if they came to him wearing the face of Micheal.
