Chapter five

"I'm guessing that would be your former wife on the phone." Alegria Colwill noted as Micheal replaced his phone into his pocket.

Former wife? Micheal scoffed. His divorce with Melissa was only a few days ago, but it seemed like everybody knew about it already. Even the ever busy Alegria Colwill.

"Stop with the pity face. I had to make my research about you before coming out here." Alegria added, noticing the look of surprise that Micheal wore.

She was indeed a perfect beauty, with the confidence of a tigress and an aura of class. There was no way she would naturally take heed to lazy rumors be it from other people's lips or from the news channels. Especially since the story was about the Kingstons who were far lower than the Colwills in the ranking of the class of families.

Besides, Micheal realized that there was not much connection between the Colwills and the Imperials. The Imperials were way above the level of the Colwills as it was with anybody else, but he could not understand why Alegria was working for his grandfather.

"I still don't understand. What is your aim in all of this? Why are you trying to convince me to rejoin the Imperials? Why are you helping my grandfather?"

Before Alegria could respond, Morgan's phone buzzed with noise. He took a glance at the face of the screen.

"It is the chairman." He realized, staring back at Micheal and Alegria at the back of the car.

It was Micheal's grandfather. The old man must be anxious to hear the results of Alegria's contributions.

"He has been calling more frequently to ask if you are now on board, Mr Imperial. I have always given him bad news, please let it be different this time." Morgan pleaded with Micheal.

Micheal gave it a fast thought. His grandfather was now sick in bed, this might just be the right time to return home. After all, with the power of the Imperial family on his side, it would be easier for him to prevent the Kingstons from taking over his foster grandfather's properties. No matter what, the Kingstons must not get Martins' hard earned riches.

"Tell him I'm on the way back home." Micheal directed Morgan who in turn picked up the phone in joy.

"Chairman sir! I have great news for you!"

*******************

Peter Anderson and his wife, Melissa had just arrived at Leo Dane's masterpiece home. It was a beauty like no other, competing with the best mansions of the Anderson family.

"I cannot believe it." Melissa murmured in surprise. "How can he be this wealthy?"

Leo was nothing but a personal assistant to the chairman of the Imperial family, but the riches he possessed was far greater than the wealth of the CEOs of some other companies.

"I know, right. The Imperials are so amazing." Peter acknowledged. He also could not understand how they were this powerful.

To be frank, he would have preferred to marry a woman from the Imperial family, but they were levels above him. It had taken him several years before he could even get an audience with Chairman Imperial's PA. How long would it take to befriend one of his granddaughters?

Besides, Peter loved to be the one in control. To marry an Imperial would mean to submit to a woman just to maintain relations with her family, he did not want to be in that position.

"I will rise many steps beyond this level. And I will take my family to the top of the chain, right next to the Imperials. Or even higher." He swore to his wife and Melissa could see the burning desire in his eyes. If only Micheal had that burning desire, she thought.

Then she looked over to her side again. Micheal did not just pop up in her mind just now, he actually did pop up in her face.

"Micheal?"

He was standing right by the gateway of Leo Dane's mansion.

"Wait, is that your ex?" Peter glared through his car window. "What the hell is he doing here?"

His blood boiled in rage, and he wanted to teach Micheal a lesson so badly. That loser had disrespected his wife earlier, he could not let him walk away a free man.

Peter was ready to step out of the car, but Melissa held him back.

"Remember what we came here for. You cannot let a no name like him stand in our way. We have to leave a good impression on the chairman's assistant. Getting into a fight on the first day is no way to achieve that."

Peter calmed down a little, staring at Micheal as he perused aimlessly in front of the gate.

"Why do you think he is here?"

"I have no idea." Melissa shook her head. "But it cannot be anything important. Maybe to seek a job. I mean, look at him. He is homeless, jobless and hopeless. What else would he come here looking for?"

"Your brother said he saw him with the Colwill girl, you think he was telling the truth?"

"To be honest, I don't believe my brother. Or my mother. They hate Micheal so much, they would say anything about him. There is no way someone like him will even be allowed to clean the shoes of Alegria Colwill."

"Okay then." Peter adjusted his outfit. Let us go in.

He stepped out of the vehicle with his wife and walked towards the heavily guarded gate. Micheal was still at the gate, unable to enter.

"I am sure he has been denied entry by the guards. What else was he hoping for?" Melissa sneered.

"Hey loser, why don't you just leave the guards alone and go home?" Peter called as soon as he was close enough, letting Micheal turn around and notice their presence.

Micheal was surprised to see Melissa and Peter here at his grandfather's assistant's home. Why have they come here?

"Melissa..." He tried to call her name but she ignored him, cutting in with disgust.

"Ohh dear Peter. Did you forget? He doesn't have a home, does he? My family put a roof over his worthless head for three years and what did he do in return? He physically attacked my brother!"

"That did not happen..."

"Shut your mouth, loser!" Peter butted in with a loud caution. "When millionaires talk, peasants like you should learn to listen."

Micheal only responded with a faint smile. "You are not all that perfect either, are you?"

"What...?"

"Coming here to visit someone else's personal assistant like this, one could tell you are here to beg for partnership. Aren't beggars supposed to be humble?"

His words pierced into Peter Anderson's skin like sharp blades. He growled in fury.

"You! How dare you?!"

"Be careful what you do next, Mr Anderson. Afterall, you are the one who has an image to protect." Micheal pushed on, further increasing the annoyance of the two.

Micheal knew that Peter Anderson would not dare to attack him. That would mean risking everything his family has worked towards for years. If he loses this opportunity to meet with Leo Dane today, he may never get the chance ever again.

"Let us go, dear. Ignore his nuisance." Melissa urged her husband. She also wanted Micheal to pay for his disrespect, but this was just not the right place and time.

"Before I go, I will just let you know, peasant. Today was your lucky day, and the next time I catch you, you won't get a free pass again".

With that, he proceeded towards the waiting guards, accompanied by his wife. After a brief introduction, the guards opened the gates and ushered them in.

As he was about to enter, he stopped to get a last glance at Micheal. "You see, boy, this is the difference between peasants and real men."

With a smile, he went in. But he was stopped when Micheal replied. "Real men don't need to talk about themselves. Very soon, we shall know which one of us is the peasant."

What was that supposed to mean? Neither Peter nor Melissa had an idea, but they could no longer wait to trade words with this fool.

"We shall see."

The couple entered, leaving Micheal standing with a relaxed pose.
