Chapter 12

"I only want to be the executive director." He noticed her frown, so he added, "you are handling things pretty well. I don't want to intervene."

"Alright." She stared at him as he looked at the paintings on the wall. He looked more handsome.

"I still can't believe you didn't call me…"

"I said I am sorry, Brenda!" She is such a nag.

"If you really are, come with me to a party this evening. And…" She added before Ryan could say anything. "I will get you some new clothes."

Ryan chuckled and continued looking at the paintings.

Later that evening, Ryan, dressed in the expensive black suit that Brenda had bought for him, drove them to the venue of the party.

As he drove, Brenda noted that he looked even more handsome in the suit.

"You've been in Atlanta all these while?" She asked.

"Yeah."

"Dated anyone?"

Ryan chuckled. "Married and divorced." As he drove, Ryan filled her in on his marriage to Stephanie, leaving out the details of how he was brought into the Hill family. For now, only his father and the butler should know all those things.

"My gosh. Are you going to be okay? Stephanie would be there tonight," Brenda said after he was done telling the story of his ordeal with the Hill family.

"I am done with her so there is nothing to worry about."

Brenda sighed in relief. She found herself wondering how she would have felt if she had met Ryan when he was married to Stephanie.

They arrived at the venue of the party in their Ferrari.

There was a crowd at the entrance to the party. A few of them were reporters but most of them were people who had come to take pictures of the important people in the city that had been invited to the party.

There was commotion in the place as the crowd rushed to the car that had parked in front of Ryan's car. Camera flashed as the car door opened.

A woman dressed in an expensive short red gown came out from the car. She had long brown hair, slightly tall. The gown she wore hugged her body, revealing her curves.

"There she goes," Brenda muttered, staring at Ryan's ex-wife.

A man also got out of the car. He was wearing sunglasses, but at once, Ryan knew who he was. Anderson.

"Miss Stephanie, can you say something about the rumours going on?" One of the reporters that had come asked.

"How much does your clothes cost?"

"You look really stunning!"

Stephanie smiled at them while Anderson wrapped his hand around her waist.

Ryan got out of the car and went to the other side to help Brenda out of the car. He glanced at his ex-wife and Anderson, just in time to see the two of them staring at him, their jaws dropped in shock.

He looked away from them and opened the car door for Brenda. She held his hand and got out of the car. The two of them started walking into the hall.

The crowd had run off to another new guest who had arrived so they didn't notice Ryan and Brenda walking inside the hall where the party was going to take place. Even from the exterior, Ryan could tell the hall was a very luxurious one.

"Miss Brenda!" Ryan heard his ex-wife call. If her anger could be obvious in her voice, there was no telling how filled with rage she was.
