Adrian stood, his eyes scanning the group. "Is everyone here?" His voice was steady, but there was an underlying tension, a raw edge that betrayed his unease.

"We're all here, but barely," muttered Lucas, nursing a gash on his arm. "That ambush was no coincidence. Someone tipped them off."

Vanessa, sitting apart from the rest, stared into the flames, her expression unreadable. Adrian's gaze lingered on her for a moment before he turned away, his jaw tightening.
