Meet Bethany

Amanda looked out of the car window, completely ignoring the man that was sending seductively signals her way. She was not ready to engage in any sort of conversation with anyone. All she wanted was to meet with her girls and prepare to go for the party that promised to be the biggest of the month.

The man pulled up at her friend, Bethany's house and she wasted no time in paying the man and leaving his car. She knew by his body signals that he wanted to engage her in a conversation but he wasn't going to have any of it.

"Amanda!" Bethany screamed as she opened the door to her best friend. She had seen her come in from the window. She was excited to see her but not so excited to not notice that she was using an Uber.

"Girl, what happened to your car?"

"My idiotic father took it from me. Told me that I had to learn some manner before it would be given back to me." She said as she barged into the house and Bethany closed the door behind her.

"Are you serious?" Bethany asked as she followed Amanda who was heading to the kitchen.

"Yeah, it's so crazy. He said that I have some serious growing up to do. And maybe I do but taking away my car is not the way to teach me," she said as she took a sip of orange juice. "The only thing keeping me sane right now is this party, so can we go?"

"Yes, we can," Bethany said and from the side of her eyes, she could see her baby brother fighting with the sister over a remote. "Marv, let go of the remote," she said as she walked up to them.

"It's not fair. You didn't even ask what happened, you just assumed that it was my fault," Marv said with teary eyes.

"And that's because you are also so mischievous. So let go of it."

"Fine," Marv said as he let go of the remote and ran upstairs.

"Who's going to take care of them when we leave?" Amanda asked puzzled as to whether her best friend could actually leave her two siblings alone.

"I called Jane their babysitter. She should be here before it's time for us to go. Now let's go upstairs." Bethany giggled as she dragged Amanda up to her room. They had agreed to leave the clothes at Amanda's place. Amanda didn't trust her father. She believed that he would somehow find the outfit and ruin it and she couldn't let that happen.

A few minutes later, they were in Bethany's room. Amanda jumped on the bed as she watched Bethany head over to remove the clothes from the closet.

"Hey, do you think that Andrews will be at that party? I really hope he will. It's been so long since we last met and I can't wait to pick up from where we left off." Amanda said as she scrolled through her phone looking for how she would style her hair. The silence in the room was alien to her because she was used to Bethany being loud all the time. She lifted her head to see a sorry look on Bethany's face. When she looked down, she could see her dress being cut in half.

Amanda stood up gently from the bed. "Okay, please tell me that this is not my dress."

"Amanda I am so sorry. I swear I don't know how this happened." It was obvious that Bethany was sorry but Amanda wasn't going to let her off the hook so easily.

"OMG Bethany, how did this happen? How could you let this happen?" Amanda took the cloth from her hand and traced the fabric across hers.

"I don't know how it happened. I think that maybe one of my siblings did it."

"Why would they cut my dress in half?"

"Maybe because they thought it was mine. Look, we get on each other's nerves a lot and I won't be surprised if they did this to get back at me. But don't worry, I have something else that you can wear and go to the party," Bethany said as she went back to searching through her closet.

"Forget it. I don't want to wear anything else. I guess I'll just go home and sleep." Amana dropped the cloth on her bed and picked up her bag.

"Oh no. You can't go. Look, I feel so terrible."

"You should! You ruined my evening."

"Okay, let me make it up to you. I will indulge you in a fun evening with me and my siblings. It will be fun, we can play all sorts of games and do anything you want."

"Could we drink vodka from the bottle?"

"If that's what will make you happy," Bethany said with a forced giggle. "And first thing tomorrow morning we will go to this great place downtown. They have the best tailors and I am sure that they will be able to fix your dress for you. So what do you say? You interested?"

Amanda took a second to think about it. "Hell yeah, I'm interested. It's better than going back home and sulking."

"What are you really sulking about?" Bethany was Amanda's best friend but Amanda was not comfortable with telling her everything about her life. Some things were better left unsaid.

"Nothing serious. Let's go downstairs and start having some fun because I am bored out of my mind," Amanda said trying to move her attention from her life to something that she knew Bethany loved. Having fun.

"Okay, I will just put a call across to Jane for her to bring the vodka."

"You guys don't have it here?"

"Oh we do, but when my parents were about to travel for the weekend, they packed it all and locked it in their room and I don't have the key. I'll be down in a minute," Bethany said when she saw Amanda leaving her and heading downstairs.
