"I'm sorry, who are you?" Jake stuttered as he spoke.
"Don't be afraid Mr. Jake. My name is Sebastian Stanley and I'm a lawyer. In fact, I am your family's lawyer."
"My family?"
"Yes."
"See now I know that you playing with me because my family doesn't want me, they threw me away when I was little...."
"After the death of your aunt. Yes I know all that." He still had that smile on his face and this unnerved Jake the more.
"Did Marion set you up to this?" That guy had it out for him and Jake was still struggling to understand why.
"No, but it is because of his video that I've been able to locate you. Can we go somewhere private to talk?"
"Even if I wanted to man, I can't. I'm in jail for selling drugs."
"Not anymore. I sorted out your bail. You are free to go." Just the a police man came to him and removed the handcuffs from his hand.
"See? You're free to go. Now can we go somewhere quite." Jake didn't know who the strange man was but he had a feeling that he was going to love him.
"Lead the way." Jake followed the man as they left the station. He saw a black spider being parked in front of the station. He was more than happy when he heard the car beep and the lawyer opened the driver's seat.
"Sweet."
"What? Are you gonna stand there all day? Get in." Sebastian yelled at him and Jake was more than happy to comply. They drove to a restaurant that Jake could only admire from a distance and the man ordered breakfast for Jake.
"Okay, mind telling me what's going on?"
"You don't want to eat first?" Jake looked from his plate and decided that it was best if he ate before hearing the news the man had to tell him.
He savored every bite of his meal thinking about the last time he had eaten something so delicious and finally finding the answer to be 'never'.
"Okay, I'm done. Now talk to me."
"Jake... Mind if I call you Jake?" Jake nodded his head and the man continued. "Okay, so as you know too well your aunt was a wealthy woman in her time and when she died she willed everything she had to you. You are the one in charge of all the companies and all the houses and cars. Somehow your family found out about it and that is why they threw you out. They were hoping that you would stay missing till after you had turned 31 because that is when everything will get revoked back to them, that is if and only if you did not already claim possession of it. After they run you out of the state, they declared you dead but I knew they were lying and I told them that I couldn't release the property to them. It gave me some time to look for you and now, I have finally found you."
Jake was suddenly thankful that he had chosen to eat before having such idiotic conversation with this man. Did he have any idea who he was?
He was a broke and heartbroken man who worked at a stupid fashion company that created terrible designs to make ends meet.
He was a man who had nothing but a shit hole apartment that he was going to get thrown out of in the next two weeks because he can't afford rent.
He was a man who his boss told him to his face that he would never amount to anything good.
And now this man was sitting across from him feeding him lies about being a billionaire. He briskly stood up to leave.
"Where are you going?" Sebastian asked sharply.
"Don't you people ever get tired of toying with people's emotions?"
"Okay, I can see that you don't believe me. Well maybe you will believe this." He tossed a document to Jake and when Jake opened it, it was his late aunt's will. He cried as he read the words. He cried as he realized the massive love his aunt had for him.
"I wasn't lying Mr. Jake. You are truly a billionaire now. And we need you on the company's ground. I'm overseeing the activities of the company for now but with you around, I can back down and let you do the job you've been called to do."
"But why would my family be so heartless as to keep me away from all these?"
"Greed, Jake. Greed."
"I need some time to think about what I want to do with this information."
Sebastian breathed out a heavy sigh. "I completely understand Jake." He passed a card to him. "This is my number. Call me if you need anything."
Jake stood up to leave but Sebastian didn't let him. "Hold up, let me sort the bill and then I can take you home."
"No you don't need to do all that."
"But I want to. It'll just be a minute." Jake nodded his head as he watched the man leave and he used the spare time to spread his eyes round his environment. His eyes fixed on a couple who had probably started the relationship newly. He saw how much the woman admired the man and how much the man adored the woman. He knew he wanted something like that for himself and now he could. He had enough money to go after Susan and get her back. He was about to call her when he saw the woman lean in and place a kiss on the man's lips and they both blushed.
Susan had never blushed, not after their first kiss, not after their first sex. The only time she smiled was after Jake had gotten her a gift. It was like she was tired of the relationship but didn't know how to tell him. Well he had finally heard, loud and clear.
He took out his phone and deleted her contact. Just then, Sebastian walked in.
"Okay, all done. May we go now?"
"Of course." Jake stood up to leave and they both entered into Sebastian car. When he parked at the front of his apartment, Jake finally spoke.
"I don't want anyone to know about this. I don't want them to know about this new found wealth of mine. Is there a way we could keep it quite for a few more months? I just want to discover the people that truly love me for me and not for the money."
"I understand you Jake, but who will take care of the company? I can't do it anymore."
"Well, you are running it now right? I believe you can find someone who will be running it for the meantime, at least till I am ready to assume the position of CEO."
"I believe I can do that."
"Okay, once you find the right guy that you trust, you let me know. Goodbye for now Sebastian."
"Have a lovely day Jake."
Jake was sure that he would have the most perfect day, after all, he was now a billionaire.
Amanda looked out of the car window, completely ignoring the man that was sending seductively signals her way. She was not ready to engage in any sort of conversation with anyone. All she wanted was to meet with her girls and prepare to go for the party that promised to be the biggest of the month. The man pulled up at her friend, Bethany's house and she wasted no time in paying the man and leaving his car. She knew by his body signals that he wanted to engage her in a conversation but he wasn't going to have any of it."Amanda!" Bethany screamed as she opened the door to her best friend. She had seen her come in from the window. She was excited to see her but not so excited to not notice that she was using an Uber."Girl, what happened to your car?" "My idiotic father took it from me. Told me that I had to learn some manner before it would be given back to me." She said as she barged into the house and Bethany closed the door behind her."Are you serious?" Bethany asked as she follo
Amanda woke up to a beer bottle on her stomach. The sun had found a way into the parlour which was beginning to smell like alcohol. Amanda managed to lift her hand as she looked across the room, she saw Bethany and Jane lying on the sofa opposite hers. Standing up, she hit Bethany on the hit to wake her up."Girl, what the hell?""You are a bad older sister. How could you get hammered with your little sisters in the house?" Bethany rubbed her eyes with her hand and she could finally see the sight of Amanda staring back at her made her want to throw up. "Will you stop looking at me like that? You got hammered too!" "And that's because you didn't stop me at all," Amanda said as she crossed over to the kitchen. Bethany watched her as she fixed a cup of coffee for both of them. "I'm going to check on my siblings." "Oh now you want to be a good big sister," Amanda taunted her as she opened the cabinet that she knew they stored the drugs, removed an aspirin and swallowed it."They are f
"Excuse me ma but that is not a way to talk to someone. I was just telling you not to throw up here." "And what will happen if I do." There was nothing that Amanda hated more than people telling her what she could and could not do. Especially strangers. "Well, you will have to clean it up yourself." Jake was still fazed at how such a beautiful lady could have such a bad character. "And isn't that why you are here? To clean up after people's mess?" "I will have you know that I am a fashion designer in this fine establishment.""Oh honey, if you call this," she motioned her hand around the building, "a fine establishment, then you are yet to see the world."Jake's face had gotten red. He knew that the building wasn't state-of-the-art but he never expected that it could be pointed out to him in such a vile manner. "And what are you doing here? Since you obviously have so much class than everyone in here, why have her majesty found her way into the suburbs?" "Oh, believe me, left fo
The cab driver dropped Amanda outside her home and she reluctantly got out of the car. The gate door was open, much to her pleasure because now she could avoid small talks with the gateman. But unfortunately, her mother had already sighted her coming back and couldn't wait to eat her alive. "Amanda Cash, where are you coming from?" Amanda sighed as she saw her mother rushing down the small stairs that led to their lawn with an angry look on her face. "Mom, I spent the night at Bethany's place." "And that young girl is the type of thing you run by me and your father first before you do.""Why? Mom, it's Bethany. Not a stranger.""I don't care if it's your aunty. You do not leave this house without telling us where you went and not caring so much as to pick up your calls. Do you understand?" "Yes, mom," Amanda said as she hung her head low. "Now, your father is very much upset with you. Mostly because he wanted to tell you something last night but you were nowhere to be found. So
Amanda slammed the door to her room as she jumped on her bed and cried. She cried till she was sure that her eyes were swollen shut but still she cried. She could hear someone creep into her room and she didn't need any soothsayer to tell her who it was."Honey, I know it sounds bad but it's totally accomplishable," her mother said gently. Amanda scoffed and finally removed her head from her pillow. "Seriously mom? Where am I supposed to find a husband in the next two months? Dad is just doing this because he wants me to come work for him at that stupid company and I will not. I will never do it, mom.""Listen, I will have you know that that stupid company is what is paying for your bills and funding this rich lifestyle of yours. So if you were to learn how it works, it won't be a bad idea." Amanda couldn't believe the words coming out of her mother's lips, she was used to the woman being lukewarm about working like she was. After all, she was a full-time housewife who had gotten lu
Jake smiled as he saw the exact reaction he wanted to get out of her. He needed her to feel the pain that he was sure she dished out to people on a daily basis. He removed his phone and sent a text to Sebastian.Hey dude, I'm about to be arrested. Can you find the station they are taking me to and come bail me out? I have plans of eating sushi this evening and you know how much I love Chinese. So please hurry up. Thanks.Immediately he pressed send, he heard the sirens coming and he saw a victorious look on Amanda's face. She was very beautiful, he couldn't deny it. He hoped that maybe they could be closer, but she would have to change that ugly attitude of hers first. But then again, maybe he was the one meant to change it. He would still love to be with her despite her rude behaviour. He knew that he could tame her and he wanted to. "Yes, officer please take him away. He assaulted me," Amanda said while faking a tantrum. The men wasted no time in taking him away but the smile that
Jake looked at Amanda and he couldn't believe what she just told him to do. Was she that desperate for a man that she would force a total stranger into getting married to her? "You're joking right?" "Did I stutter?" She responded to his question."So you want me, a stranger who you hate, to date you and then get married to you? Why?""You are not in the position to be asking questions. Are you going to do it?" "Can I have some time to think about it?" Jake said after he had looked at Amanda sceptically and knew that she was up to something."Yeah, you only have five minutes. And your time starts now," Amanda said, looking at her phone. She knew that if she left him there, he would find a way to leave on his own. She couldn't take the risk. He was her only hope but he didn't have to find that out."Okay, times up. So what have you decided?" "First, nobody can make such an important decision in less than five minutes and second, I'll get to date you but I'm not so sure about the mar
A month flew by and Jake and Amanda had gotten close and learnt almost everything there was to know about each other. But Jake didn't inform her that he was a billionaire and she didn't inform Jake that he wanted to get married to him because of her inheritance. Spending so much time with Amanda had made her realize that Jake would never get married to her if he didn't love her and she won't be able to force him to. After all, the words he spoke when he was in jail were only heard by him and her. There was no witness. Amanda then knew that she had to make Jake fall in love with her. "It's opened babe," Jake screamed when he had heard her knocking for long."How did you know it was me?" Amanda said as she walked into the room. "Your perfume gives you away," Jake said as he went over to her to hug her. Jake had gotten used to her. He had also grown very fond of her. He finally figured out that she wasn't really a bad person, she was just having a bad day. The next day after their date
