A chandelier hovered over the lobby, laced in gold, looking down on those beneath it. Its steady light shone in every corner. Red carpets and black glistening marble decorated the floor.
The panic ensued by Jackson’s phone call trampled through the tranquil atmosphere in seconds.
The crowd murmured about the mysterious person with such an enormous power. The two youngsters of the Adams family looked at each other with visible horror in their eyes. Naomi shared the same expression on her face. She knew what he was capable of, but her measly family’s restaurant was nothing compared to the prestigious Jade Palace.
“Oh, my! Who might you be?”
The crowd became silent as a couple approached them. Jackson recognized them. How could he not? They were Hannah Kraft’s parents, his parents-in-law.
Jackson swallowed his pride and anger.
“Good evening, madam!”
She tried to maintain her manners in front of the young man who bought the Jade Palace with a dollar. Even though she wore a mask, she still covered her mouth, as if she was trying to appear elegant in his eyes.
But Jackson spotted the greed in her eyes which oozed out of the sockets. Swiftly, he put his hand around Naomi’s waist, forcing a rose blush on the girl’s cheeks.
Lady Kraft couldn’t ignore what had just happened in front of her. Scornful eyes rained down on Naomi as she uttered in a condescending tone.
“Ah, yes. The Walker girl. So sorry to hear about what happened between you and my son-in-law!”
Naomi trembled, but confidence built up inside her when she felt Jackson’s gentle touch caressing her back.
Jackson chuckled, “I’m afraid it’s too early to call him your son-in-law!”
“What…?!”
Mrs. Kraft’s fury met an abrupt end when a shout echoed in the lobby.
“Get out!”
Everyone’s eyes turned to the sudden scream coming from the reception hall. Jackson nonchalantly caressed Naomi’s slender waist, getting her attention.
“The fun part’s about to start!”
Without putting the Kraft couple in his eyes, he walked past them. Mrs Kraft cursed at him internally and shoved her nails in her husband’s arm to the point blood spilled out.
Naomi watched him getting further away. While everyone’s attention turned to the heavy footprints coming from the hall, Jackson made his way through the crowd. Soon after, a young man in a tuxedo pushed the door open and connected the hall with the lobby.
Behind him, a woman in a stunning red dress that showcased her alluring body tagged along.
“Never show your face in front of me. Trash!”
The people present watched in awe. “Isn’t that the young master of the Adams family?”
“Then, that’s Hannah Kraft?”
The glamorous night of champagne and bragging didn’t last long. Naomi clenched her fists when she saw them. The insult and humiliation she suffered invaded her aching heart.
“This wedding is off!”
Deafening silence followed. Jackson jumped in front of the soon to be ex groom.
“Yo, Adams Family successor! Trouble in paradise?”
The young man, unaware of who this person was, shoved him to the side. “Back off, peasant!”
Jackson felt a jolt in his head, which made him flinch. He didn’t expect that and tripped on the carpet. He fell on the table with the hors d’oeuvre.
What no one expected was what happened after. Naomi stepped up and slapped him. “Don’t you dare touch him!”
“Bitch!”
The young man from the Adams Family snapped at Naomi. Blood filled his head and in a fit of rage, grabbed her hand and pulled her away from Jackson. Just as he was about to slap her, his cousins ran by his side.
They stuttered until they got the words out. “Cousin Rake, our family’s legacy… He made that happen… Don’t make it worse…!”
He felt the ground vanishing from under his feet. Make it worse? He almost slapped that man’s date. His mind went blank as he stared into nothingness. With weakened knees, he dropped to the ground, despite the support from his cousins.
Jackson brushed off any remnants of food from his suit and approached the young Lord of the Adams family. "Such a wonderful opportunity. It's a shame to let it go to waste!"
The people at the reception, including Rake Adams, looked at Jackson, confused by his words.
A loud gasp by everyone present filled the room with silence when Jackson stepped on his face.
Hannah Kraft shouted. “You are still here?”
Jackson grinned when she got closer. He looked at her with disdain.
“Good timing, dear!”
Hannah barely spared a second to look in Jackson's direction before brushing him off.
“So cold, missus of the Kraft Family!” Jackson removed his mask. His icy eyes sent chills down their spines.
“I know it’s hardly been a day, but don’t you recognize your fiancé’s face?”
Everyone’s mouth dropped when they heard his words. Naomi’s face distorted with confusion. The Kraft family in the back looked at each other, confused.
Hannah Kraft looked at him for several seconds. When she recognized him through the cheap suit, she brushed off her lush blonde hair and uttered with contempt.
“Jackson? What are you talking about? I dumped you last night…”
She put force on her fragile hand to push him away and walked past him, towards the young man from the Adams Family.
Jackson grabbed her shoulder and squeezed enough for her to shriek.
“Don’t be like that, after so long… Besides, I don’t remember signing any papers back then!”
“Don’t touch me, trash. I didn’t want to do this in front of so many people, but you dared touch me.”
Everyone gasped. Including Hannah’s parents.
Jackson sighed and shook his head. He grabbed Naomi’s hand and pulled her close. He whispered in a barely audible soft voice, tickling her ear.
“My principles forbid me from slapping women. You may have the pleasure!”
Naomi couldn’t believe what she heard.
“What? You already slapped him. You can have her too…”
Hannah took a step back with widened eyes. “How dare you…”
The next second, a slap by Naomi left a crimson handprint on her cheek. With welled eyes, Hannah dropped to the cold floor.
Jackson got on one knee and glared at the pampered princess. With a sneer, he uttered.
“Our families arranged it and signed the papers for our marriage. Since we were underage, five years ago, we never signed the annulment, therefore, dear, we are still engaged!”
Hannah’s shock became visible to everyone present. She looked over at her parents.
“W-What is this trash talking about?”
Jackson glared at them coldly and waved. “Hi, parents-in-law!”
Jackson then pulled an envelope out of his jacket and looked around.
“Anyone’s got a pen?”
Naomi pulled out a pen and handed it to Jackson. “Here!”
“Thanks!”
He looked at everyone straight in the eyes and smiled.
“I, Jackson, solemnly sign these papers of annulment of marriage between myself and Hannah Kraft!”
He passed the papers to her and smiled.
“There! Now! It’s off!”
The following day, Jackson woke up in his bed. What surprised him were the two emerald eyes staring at him. Her soft voice tickled his ears. “Good morning!” Her luscious lips touched his cheek, leaving a wet sensation on his skin. With blood filling his head, turning his face crimson, he uttered. “Good morning…” The girl buried herself in his arms. A comfortable warmth produced by their bare skins under the sheets excited them both. Wasting no time, Naomi got on top of him and landed a long kiss on his lips. Jackson could only embrace her and accept it. *** A week has passed since the events at Jade Palace. The Adams Family pleaded multiple times at the bank, but Mr. Pearl refused to meet with them. Rake Adams approached Naomi at her family’s restaurant, hoping to reconcile. Instead, she proudly kicked him out. As for the Kraft family, they had daily meetings, trying to figure out ways to regain the young man from the Raven family as their son-in-law. The days went on like th
The patriarch scoffed. “Teaching some manners to your idiot son. I can teach you too!” Jackson waved his hand. “It’s ok, patriarch. We can talk, but can we please do something about the noise?” He looked at his fuming uncle straight in the eyes and sneered. “It’s annoying!” The patriarch kicked them out of the meeting room. The only people inside were Jackson and his grandfather, along with his new wife. If the old man was a little past his sixties, that woman was in her thirties. Her snake-like body leaned at the table next to Jackson. Her curvy body could strike any man who dared to look at her. The patriarch looked at Jackson. At first, Jackson got his attention by mentioning the new project, but the longer he thought about it and looking at his cheap attire, the more he doubted him. “So, tell me what kind of job you got there?” “Ah, yes. I will scout and recruit people for the new project. Since you guys were my family once…” The old patriarch sweated. He interrupted
The tranquility of the garden met the patriarch’s fury when his thunderous voice silenced even the chirping birds. With a hint of sarcasm in his voice, the first son scolded. “My men saw her entering his apartment about an hour ago. She still hasn’t come out!” “That ungrateful wench! Let her come back, and I’ll show her who’s the boss!” “What about Jackson?” “He’ll get what’s coming to him. We just must be a little patient with the little fiend!” Not even a second passed and the alluring woman with the raven hair joined them at the kiosk. “What are you guys doing out here? The sun is scorching.” The old patriarch glared at his son, who hurriedly picked up his phone and called his men. “What’s the situation?” [Yes sir. She’s still in there!] The first son looked at the woman in front of him, confused. “A-Are you sure?” [Yes, sir!] He looked at his father and shook his head. *** At Jackson’s apartment, a woman peeks through the curtain, making sure the black cars foll
Only the crackling wood in the fireplace broke the silence of the grand dining hall. Jackson sneaked a few glances around the room. The stoic master, Damien Shaw, enjoyed his rustic soup, whereas his beautiful daughter simply dipped her bread. The dining room was large. Only three people enjoyed the table in the middle, which was big enough for a dozen people. Over their heads a shining chandelier with candles which illuminated the entire room. A few doors scattered about, guarded by muscular men in suits, and the windows had velvet crimson drapes guarding them from the outside world. Jackson was sure the sky darkened, but he had no way of confirming it. His fast-beating heart wouldn’t rest. He ate nervously while monitoring the situation. He quenched his thirst with a full glass of wine. Apparently, the alcohol eased his racing mind. Damien Shaw coughed to get their attention. His voice hinted at a sense of self-discipline, which Jackson lacked. “My Rina said she had a chat wit
Two days after he had dinner with Damien Shaw, Jackson and Alicia Shaw arrived at the headquarters of Rikelia Group. A long drive to Borealis Valley, the home of multinational conglomerates. Anyone with a business wants their base amongst the big names of the corporate world. Though he’s the heir of the Rikelia Group, He has yet to unveil his identity to the public. At the entrance of the imposing building, a group of youngsters stood in his path. They glared at the girl. Alicia Shaw didn’t have the same allure as her sister, but she had a unique charm and unparalleled beauty. Silky long raven hair tied to a bun and blue eyes. Her elegance and demeanor mesmerized anyone who stole a glimpse of her. Her gray skirt which reached her knees, perfectly toned to her hips. A buttoned white shirt left much to be desired when one realized she playfully exposed her enticing neckline. A woman like that stood next to a young man with a cheap jacket on top of a white t-shirt and jeans. In the
The young woman behind the reception desk gasped. She couldn't believe her eyes. For the first time, she witnessed Mrs. Aria lowering her head to an unknown younger man. Jeremiah Ivory’s jaw dropped when he saw this. Fumed with rage and jealousy. He stood in front of Mrs. Aria. “Mrs. Aria, I…” He didn’t even have time to finish his sentence when a slap landed on his face and threw him over the reception counter. Unfazed, Mrs. Aria glared at him. It instantly froze the blood in his veins. She then turned to Jackson and smiled. “Mr. Taylor, what took you so long? Did something happen?” The young woman thought she was screwd, she couldn't raise her head up. Jackson saw her hands are shaking.“Mr Ivory and I had a bit misunderstoood” He said simply with a smirk on his face. She was grateful that Jackson didn't blame her or she would lose everything. Jeremiah Ivory leaped over the counter. “Out of the way, servant!” He pushed Jackson to the side and stood in front of the woman.
Towards the end of the meeting, Jackson kept staring at the Lord of the Ivory House. That man was who Jackson aspired to be. His way of speech and movement had an elegance Jackson craved. After exchanging goodbyes with Mrs. Aria, the youths left the building of the Rikelia Group. Alicia noticed the sluggish movement of Jackson. “What’s going on?” He looked at his arms, then his torso, and uttered in a disgruntled tone. “I think I need new clothes…” Alicia chuckled. “It just so happens, I know a place.” “Great! Surprise me then!” After a few hours' drive, Jackson got the surprise he asked for, unlike anything he thought it would be. “Are you sure about this?” He expected to see a luxurious shop of several hundred square meters. Instead, it was a small building with a sign filled with smudges and molded bricks. Alicia nodded in silence. He took a deep breath and walked in. Unlike the exterior, inside it was pristine. A young man hurriedly walked towards them and greeted them.
Water dripped from Jackson’s face, drenching his clothes. The people in that man’s group burst laughing, and soon the rest of the guests followed. Immediately, Naomi and Alicia ejected from their seats. It was as if this turn of events eased the tension between them. The girls put on hold of their icy stares and turned their attention towards the person who humiliated their man. With a smile on his face, he looked at the two girls. “Can I please have a towel?” The young man who poured the glass of water then turned towards the guests. Mockingly, he pointed at Jackson. “Everyone, look at this! This piece of trash doesn’t dare get up and let the two women fight for him.” Another round of laughter echoed throughout the restaurant. Jackson didn’t want to get into trouble. What happened earlier tired him enough and just wanted to enjoy his dinner. Naomi, though, wouldn’t have it. “You! How dare you cause a scene in my restaurant?” “Why wouldn’t I dare?” He then took out some money
