Chapter 5

Ethan grinned sheepishly as he stared at his account balance.

In all his years as a gamer, he'd never made so much money in a single day yet here he was making it without breaking a sweat.

It felt too good to be true but he had confirmed it was real so he remarked.

“Can I transfer my money to another bank?”

[Of course!... Would host like a list of banks which could serve as storehouses for his finances?]

“Keep it in my treasury.”

[Unfortunately, the Host hasn't unlocked this feature yet. Would the host like to pay for it?]

“How much?”

[100 coins]

Ethan nearly fell over as he stared at the screen.

100 coins?... Was this system trying to rip him off or something?

Gritting his teeth, he ultimately replied. “Fine then, exchange the money for coins and open the feature.”

[Carrying out the transaction now]

[Transaction successful, treasury successfully unlocked]

[Current account balance: $54,000,000]

Nodding in satisfaction, Ethan inquired. “What do I need to do to get exp?”

As a gamer, he understood that just getting money was unwise.

He also had to level up his stats else he would be vulnerable in the face of true power.

[By completing system missions or getting gifts from fans]

“Are there any missions available?”

[Of course!... Would the host like to carry out a mission?]

“Yes!”

[Creating mission now…]

[Mission created]

[Mission title: Spendthrift]

[Spend at least 5 million before nighttime, the more you spend, the greater the rewards]

[Reward: 1000 coins, 50 EXP, Fame +10, A Random Skill]

[Failure: Death!]

Ethan barely stopped himself from cursing out the system as he couldn't understand why death was always the option if he failed the task.

Gritting his teeth, he remarked. “What's the use of Fame?”

[It ensures that your channel becomes more popular in the Star Stream, enabling more deities to learn about it]

'I see, so it's helped me promote my channel.’ Ethan thought to himself only to refocus as he realized that his life was on the line.

He had to figure out a way to spend at least 5 million quickly else he'd be returning to the afterlife.

However, he paused as he quickly realized a problem.

Was it so difficult to spend money?

Of course not!... That was the easiest thing to do.

He chuckled at his foolishness as he quickly decided to buy a few things, but first… a new set of clothes wouldn't be too bad.

With renewed vigor, he made his way to a nearby store that sold clothes and accessories for men and women.

He quickly noticed that the staff were watching him like hawks, perhaps waiting for him to steal something so they could beat him up which made him wonder why they didn't just stop him from entering in the first place.

But then it dawned on him that if given the opportunity, people enjoyed drama, and catching a criminal was just the sort of dramatic thing they would want to experience.

So, nobody moved to assist him, at least not until a young lady who seemed to be new at the place approached him, all smiles.

Ethan was taken aback by her demeanor as she inquired.

“Hello sir, how may I be of service to you?... Here at Threads, we sell clothing, accessories, and much more. What are you interested in?” She spoke fluently and was quite friendly, prompting Ethan to respond in kind.

“I would like to purchase male clothing, as you can see, my appearance is not exactly presentable.”

“I can understand that. We also offer grooming services, if you are interested.”

“Is that so?” Ethan was pleasantly surprised as he was in dire need of cleanup.

His hair was scattered and his beards were out of bounds.

“I would like that very much,” Ethan confessed.

The girl, whose name was Caroline, based on her name tag, replied. “Alright then, please right this way.”

***

“Ugh, doesn't that girl know that she's about to be scammed?”

“Hmmph, she deserves it for thinking she is better than us. Just because she has been winning employee of the month, she thinks she's better than everyone.”

“At least this will help her understand that she has to do things like us if she wishes to get maximum profit.”

“I agree. I can't wait to see her face when the man doesn't pay for the services rendered.”

Caroline's colleagues gossiped amongst themselves as they watched her attend to Ethan without discriminating against his scattered appearance.

They never really liked her as she was always highly rated by customers and so was well-liked by the store manager who gave her authority to serve as a leader whenever she was not around causing them to feel envious.

Seeing her about to fall prey to a scammer, they didn't even bother to warn her as they wanted to see her humiliated.

So they waited with bated breaths for what they thought to be an inevitability.

Meanwhile, Ethan felt incredibly refreshed after getting a haircut and trimming his beard

And without a doubt, he looked completely different from his previous appearance.

The appearance that had caused many women to fall head over heels for him had once again come to light and Ethan couldn't help but think to himself.

‘Ladies, watch out!’

Smirking, he turned to find that Caroline was also astounded by his appearance judging from how flustered she looked despite being the one to have given him the haircut.

“Can we head over to pick out the clothes now?” He calmly intoned, snapping Caroline out of her momentary daze.

“Oh, uhmm… yes, please this way.” Caroline quickly remarked as she regained her composure to lead Ethan to the male clothing rack.

Once there, Ethan quickly picked out a few items and tried them on with Caroline growing even more enamored with his incredible appearance.

Finally, it was time for the bill with Caroline remarking. “The total sum amounts to 100 thousand dollars.”

“I see. Do you accept cards?”

“Of course. please give me a moment.” Caroline immediately moved to get the Card reader with her coworkers moving to the exits to ensure Ethan didn't take the opportunity to escape.
