Chapter 18 : Hallrun

"That's the only memory I have so far. I realized that I might have done something bad in the past. However, my greatest regret is not being able to save my older brother on my own...“ Vahn said finishing his story.

“Wow... that's pretty blue. Do you hope to meet him in the future?"

"I don't know, I don't even know what to say to him the next time I see him. I'm sure the figure he saw when he saw me now is completely different from before."

Spike stood up, he was quite amused by the story Vahn had given him. Because of that, it's enough to release the fatigue of doing nothing in this arena.

As he looked back at Vahn, he realized that the man's body had almost recovered to its previous state of health.

"Hey, wait. Isn't your body recovered now? All the bones inside your organs are nowhere to be seen! The flesh and skin have covered them!"

“Yeah... I can feel it too. As it turns out, my skill really works."

Suddenly, the gate that was behind Spike opened now. But the siren still didn't stop sounding loud enough.

"Spike! Watch out! It could be The Chain men trying to kill you!" Vahn said warily of Spike.

[ 5th level gate has been raised. Authorities violence are allowed  ]

5 layers of gates have been opened. And there, an unexpected figure had arrived to fetch Spike and Vahn.

"Silver! Why are you here!"

It was Silver, his orange jumpsuit and his face looked shabby and full of stains and a little bit of blood this time. Spike was more concerned about Silver's condition than Vahn or himself.

Silver came over to Spike, without saying anything to just call on the guy or something. But Silver's current gaze was full of signs that he was frightened.

Just as he was about to grab onto Spike’s shoulder, Silver turned towards Vahn and looked surprised to see him.

“He… why is he still alive? Why do you spare his life?"

"Yes of course. He is a member of my gang now. I may be late to say this, but would you try to become a member-"

With a bang, Silver slapped and smacked Spike on the head.

“You stupid! Where do you think we are? We are in hell under the guise of a prison! There's no time to play child's games like you are doing right now!"

Spike was angry, he had never been treated like this by someone he just met. Moreover, Vahn saw Silver's slap which of course made Spike's prestige diminish slightly in Vahn's eyes.

“Who do you think you are? Dare to arrange me! It's up to me to do whatever I want! If you don't like it, don't get involved with me!"

“You really are a stupid bastard! The guards are doing the cleaning now. They knew that the prisoners divided themselves into groups and now tried to attack the prison. I'm sure you know nothing about that. But now, the time is right for us to do something about it!"

Spike was confused, he didn't understand anything about the plan that Silver was referring to now.

"What plan?" he asked.

Silver turning around in the direction to leaving the arena now. "You want me to explain in this stage of death?"

Spike also followed Silver from behind. But before that, he had asked Vahn about his condition. "Are you able to walk yet?"

“Yes... I think I can. Just don't do extreme activities like jumping, falling, or anything like that okay!"

The three of them, escape from that arena right now…

***

The path that those three are walking is one that Spike has never traveled before. With a room 3 times the height of his body and the width so wide, this hallway is more like a hall to escort a fully armed company of troops.

The emergency red light that illuminates the entire room also makes Spike's visibility a bit blurry. Because he couldn't see any color other than red in this place.

On the left and right, there are so many big boxes scattered that can't be opened. Their existence made Spike a little curious about what was inside.

"Silver, do you know what's in those boxes?"

"I don't know, but I think it's a collection of ammunition used by the sentinel robots."

"Hey... wouldn't it be very useful if we used that ammo?" Vahn's reply. interested in those boxes.

"Useful for what? What do you do with ammo without a rifle? Do you want to throw those bullets right in their face?” Silver asked.

"We could just steal the rifle from the sentinel robot," Spike replied thinking Vahn's idea was a good idea.

“That shows that you have never faced those robots before. Their weapons were not designed to be used by humans. There is a special system that protects their weapons for us to use”

Hearing that explanation, Spike and Vahn stopped to have their idea realized.

They continued to walk down the mysterious, dark hall.

By the end, Spike had one rant in mind.

“You guys always say guards are scary and impossible to fight. The impossibility of winning against them is like the impossibility of fighting fate itself. I wonder can i fight them?”

Vahn and Silver exchanged glances as well, realizing that Spike's stupid words had made them both laugh.

“You could say that you want to be ranked number 1 in this prison and possess truly terrifying superpowers. But if you say you want to fight those guards, you're dreaming of seeing your own back.”

They were almost at the end of the tunnel by now.

A gunshot sounded from behind that gate there. The terrible sound was accompanied by the screams of the prisoners writhing in pain.

“Spike, I'm starting to hate you now. I believe, ahead of us, is one of the guards fighting off the prisoners. If you want to try to see how tough they are, then now is the time. You don't need to sacrifice yourself to be able to test your own strength.”

Spike swallowed hard. He couldn't believe what he said had come true.

Spike, meet one of the guards in this prison.

“There's a big box over there. Let's hide while waiting for their fight to end. Though I'm sure, that battle will end quickly…”
