Chapter 24 (part 2)

“About the time I see you, Betts,” said Lena, her voice a bit hoarse with an evident lack of sharpness. Her demeanor showed she was simply calm, and somewhat sedated, according to Trust’s instinct. “Come on, let me get you a lecturing for leaving me here without even letting someone care for me full time, these nurses don’t know how to care for this old woman.” She was sitting up leaning back at the inclined part of the bed with a layer of pillows under her back.

The two approached her, Betts leaning in for a hug and Trust afterward. Betts set the items in the cupboard, the one above the table located near the foot of the bed. On top of the table were a few boxes of toiletries, one unused and the other opened for use. Trust looked at the medical chart at the foot of the bed. He listened, shifting to Lena as she spoke about the hospital’s subpar good to bad nurses and services.
