Acceptance

"Pardon but can I get something to eat?" Yen asked a woman serving food to people around.

"What are you saying?" She asked in a language that was foreign to Yen.

"I meant food. Something to eat." Yen replied again. He understood her words due to a feature on the system that allowed him to automatically understand any language even if he was hearing it for the first time. The problem was that she didn't understand his words.

She looked at him confused. What language was he speaking?

'Shit! This is messed up!' He slapped his forehead.

He decided to gesture with his hand for a second trial.

He brought his palms in front of him and rubbed them together in an act of pleading and then brought one hand close to his mouth, folding it so all the fingers were of the same height.

'She should at least get this one, right?' Yen thought while repeating the gesture.

She stared at him for a moment and he could tell she was specifically looking at the blood that covered the chest region of his robes. 'Of course, she's looking at the bloodstained part!' Yen sighed in regret and frustration.

She pushed a bowl containing rice as well as lots of meat into his arms and waved at him to go away.

"I don't know who you are but hurry up and leave before you bring trouble here. I want nothing to do with the higher authorities." She spoke while gesturing, unaware that he could understand her.

"Well thank you." He spoke his language even though she wouldn't understand and gestured with a bow.

'I also want nothing to do with higher authorities for now at least.' He walked back toward the alley where he had come out from. The same one where he had died before.

"Getting filled up comes first. The system or whatever that is, remains a mystery to be solved as I'll unravel it piece by piece while also looking for its creator, The Supreme One, whoever and wherever he might be who thinks he can just manipulate me into doing his bidding."

He dug the spoon into the bowl and shoved it into his mouth.

'Ah, yes… food!'

He forgot all about the system and memories as all he could think of at the moment was the sweet smell and taste of the food he held.

His belly greedily rumbled, asking for more and he fed more to it. As long as he was full, everything else would work fine.

Gulping down the food like it was water, Sovereign Yen was done within minutes.

"Man, that was great." He smiled, tapping his belly that had grown full.

He had a very easy time eating the meat given to him since they were boneless.

"Now, for the first thing, memories." Sovereign Yen sat on the floor in a lotus style, closing his eyes to meditate as he unsealed the memories belonging to Yen Khan slowly.

"Hmm?" As the memories flashed in his mind, he became more familiar with the past owner of this body.

He experienced the life of Yen Khan as he watched the scenes like an audience caught in a drama.

From Yen Khan's birth, Sovereign Yen watched how Yen had grown up as a child.

Belonging to a prominent family, Yen Khan had been well brought up and loved by every member of the family.

That was until the tragic incident where his parents were met with their end. The struggle for power in the family led to the death of Yen Khan's parents when he was at the age of seven.

Being the heir to the seat of the family head, Yen had to decide who would become his new guardian as the one who took him in would become the temporary family head.

Another struggle began as the family members decided to use various means to get him to choose them.

All plans failed as Yen Khan chose to stay with someone who had no interest in being the family head. The only one who still mourned Yen's parents alongside Yen.

Taken in by Pete Khan, his uncle and the immediate brother of his father, Yen once more experienced love from this uncle of his. As the new family head, even as a temporary one, Pete cared deeply for the only child of his older brother like he was his own.

He didn't have a child of his own so all his love was showered on Yen Khan.

The only difference was, of course, the love shown by all family members couldn't be found anymore.

Seeing that Yen Khan hadn't chosen any of them and had instead chosen someone else, hatred began to grow in their hearts.

The truth was that no matter who Yen Khan had chosen, he would've been hated by the rest.

As a kid, Yen Khan didn't understand why they suddenly started giving him the cold treatment but he still didn't think much of it.

At age seventeen, his aunt after several denials had been permitted to take him for vacation which she did.

Yen Khan knew she didn't mean him good but he still left with her, believing nothing could go wrong.

Everything went wrong as Yen Khan was kidnapped and taken to an entirely different place to start a new life.

A life of suffering.

He was married against his own will into the Wuhan Family, a family of great prominence and power in their region.

Marrying a daughter of theirs simply because she liked his looks, he hoped things wouldn't get worse.

At age eighteen, Yen Khan married Qing Wuhan, one of the seven daughters of the family. And although she was beautiful, she was cold-hearted.

Their love started well and soon, things didn't seem the same.

Rather than become a husband of the family, he was made into a servant of the family.

He was employed by his wife's family to work at the company branch managed by his wife. His post was that of the janitor.

He would work diligently day after day and get paid his salary for his wife to take it with loads of excuses.

He didn't complain. Why?

Because Yen Khan deeply loved her and wished she would change. Unfortunately, change wasn't for everyone.

The one who felt pity for him turned out to be the youngest daughter of the family who was four years younger than him.

Qing being the sixth daughter of the family held more power compared to the last child so she couldn't do anything for Yen.

Besides, he was married to her older sister. It wasn't like she could take him away through marriage.

She acted like she didn't care as if she showed any care toward him, her over-possessive elder sister Qing, Yen Khan's wife would make things even more difficult for him.

Yen Khan understood this so he stayed away from her as well.

Six years after the marriage, Yen Khan had been framed by his wife. She had accused him of forcefully sleeping with her.

Even as couples, not once had both of them collided on the bed to make little ones.

Her reason for this act of hers?

She had found a wealthier family heir she wanted to tie to their family. One she wanted at all costs.

He also wanted her but Yen Khan would be in the way of their marriage so she set him up with a false rape accusation.

Angered by Yen's act, the family sought to punish Yen as badly as they could.

Yen wouldn't have it and when he tried to go against her, the family stepped in.

Yen Khan wouldn't let the family have their way and be punished for something he didn't do.

But there was nothing he could do about them except running away.

Aided by Ming, the youngest daughter, Yen Khan escaped the estate of the family only to meet his brutal end in this alley.

"Ming Wuhan huh? I'll remember this favor. But first, I've got some work to do." Sovereign Yen smiled and rose to his feet.

He knew more memories were waiting to be unlocked and knew there were hidden secrets behind Yen Khan's death aside from the rape accusation.

He had spent his tens of thousands of years scheming and being schemed against and if there was one thing he was sure about, it was that such schemes didn't matter in front of absolute power.

"From now on, I am Yen Khan!" Sovereign Yen declared and a wave of indomitable energy spread out from him.

"Hmm?" He didn't notice the energy but felt his soul tighten around his new body even further.

"Second is the language barrier."

"How does the system work again? How do I call it out?"

He thought and thought about the system and fortunately, a notification sound was heard.

Ding!
