CHAPTER 33

Claire lay in the hospital bed, her mind struggling to grasp the fragments of the horrific nightmares from the previous night.

She remembered the freezing cold, the horrible wind, and the overwhelming sense of betrayal and fear.

Nathan's face flashed in her mind, his eyes cold and unforgiving.

She would not forget so easily how someone who used to love and cherish her and would do anything for her threw her out mercilessly like a dog and left her to die without a second thought.

The memory of being cast out into the raging storm, left to face the elements alone, made Claire's body tremble.

The utter hopelessness she had felt as the icy wind brought her to her knees, stealing the breath from her lungs, was almost too much to bear.

In that moment, Claire was certain she was going to die, her life flashing before her eyes as the darkness threatened to consume her.
