Chapter 11
As Gabriel silently accepted Mark's apology, his expression remained inscrutable, betraying nothing of the tumult of emotions raging within him.

But he couldn't resist making a joke of him and leaned forward, muttering, “Now, I hope you know your place, dear superior.” His tone was sarcastic, fueling Mark's rage.

There was no better pain for a once capable man than not being able to exercise control again and the situation was that of Mark's. He couldn't do anything even if he badly wanted to slap Gabriel.

“Yes," Mark forced himself to admit after receiving a glare from the general manager and he bowed.

As Mark slunk away, visibly chastened by the public confrontation and humiliation, Gabriel couldn't help but feel a sense of quiet satisfaction wash over him. Though he had lost his job, he had not lost his dignity, and that brought him a measure of inner peace.

“Now, let's see who's going to be calling the shots, Mark," he whispered to himself, smirking.
