5. He's an heir

Ian’s surprised face went funny. He scoffed and started laughing. He would never think that was the funniest joke or prank he had ever heard from a stranger.

“Is this some kind of a prank?” he asked her and couldn’t stop laughing.

She just didn’t say anything and shook her head.

“It wasn’t funny after all, and I am not pranking you.” she said.

She knows it wasn’t just easy for him to believe that he was going to be rich sooner. Ian couldn’t believe that he would be rich for he was so poor.

“Fine, I know it’s hard to believe what I am saying, but this is the truth. You have to believe me. I have a proof that I am not pranking you. ” she firmly said.

When Ian saw how serious her expression was, and he could see that she wasn’t just pranking him, he just went calm and stopped laughing. He took a deep sigh and looked at her.

“Then, how can I believe you then and where’s your proof?” he asked her.

The lawyer smiled like that wasn’t a problem for her to do so. At first, Ian was very doubtful about going with her, but because he had to trust her, he agreed to go with her.

“Let’s go to my office.” she said.

Ian had no choice but to go with the flow for him to understand everything. The lawyer took him to her office.

“Sit and I am just going to get it.” she said.

Ian nodded and looked around. He would never have thought that her office would be so wide, clean, and smell very flowery. Ian just calmly seated watching her taking out something, like a paper.

“I’m sorry, just wait for me. I knew I hid it here.” she said.

Ian just sighed and couldn’t stop thinking about the possibility that she was telling him the truth. His mind was confused right now.

“Okay, I got it.” He heard her release a deep sigh.

Ian saw her holding a piece of paper she took out inside the envelope. He swallowed hard. The lawyer looked at him and smiled.

“Here, read it.” she said and handed the paper to him.

Ian was so doubtful to get it and read it. There was part of him that didn’t want to read it.

“What’s this?” he asked her.

He got it, but his hands couldn’t stop shaking while holding it. The lawyer just smiled a bit and understood his situation.

“That’s not just a paper, Ian. That’s a will.” she said.

“Will?” he asked her.

The lawyer nodded and smiled at him.

“Yes, a will is where people write everything about inheritance and who were going to get it. That’s very important to people who are very rich, Ian. So, you have to read it carefully.” she reminded him.

Ian was getting very thrilled and curious as the time passed out. Ian didn’t think twice about reading and everything his eyes were reading made him very furious and very confused.

“What is this?” he blurted.

He couldn’t believe what he just read. He didn’t continue reading it and looked at his lawyer.

“Yes, what you read was all true. You’re the only son of the richest man around the world, Ian.” she mumbled.

Ian still wouldn’t believe it as he put down the will on her table slowly. The lawyer just took a deep breath and sighed.

“You were lost when you were still a child. I know it’s surprising but that was the truth and nothing but the truth.” she sighed.

Ian doesn’t still know her name making him harder to call her. He doesn’t know how to address her.

“I-m sorry, but what’s your name?” he asked her.

She giggled a bit and sighed.

“Well, that’s not important for now, Mr. Laude. Right now, it’s very important for you to know who really you are.” she sighed.

Ian didn’t say anything.

“B-ut how? I mean, how did it happen and where’s my father?” he asked her.

Her face went sad, and she sighed. She was so sad to tell him the bad news about his dad.

“Actually, your dad passed away a few days ago. That’s why he left a big amount of inheritance. Now that I’ve found you, you are going to be the owner of a super consortium. I know it makes sense to you right now. And I am sorry if we just found you after he passed.” she mumbled.

Ian sadly sighed and looked out of the window. He thought he was able to meet his dad, but he was wrong. All this time, he doesn’t know that he was lost by his real family.

“So, I am ri-ch now?” He can’t stop asking her.

She smiled at him and nodded. He doesn’t know if he was going to be happy or not. Thinking he can get back Sharmaine now that he’s rich, but he got mad remembering she betrayed, used, and cheated him.

“Yes, but according to the will, you must prove something.” she said.

Ian looked at her surprisingly.

“Prove what?” he asked her.

Ian never read that part, because he was already nervous reading everything written on the will. Because he was still in the state of being shocked.

“That you are a good heir.” she said.

“And how can I do that? How can I prove that I am a good heir?” He was getting more and more confused.

The lawyer just shrugged her shoulder and stood up. She started walking around her office while sighing. Ian was already getting dizzy watching her.

“Well, that’s up to you already, Ian. Because if you have proven that you were such a good heir, you’re not just going to receive or inherit one company, but you are going to get wealthier, but if you fail to do so. Then, you’re going to lose everything.” she said.

Ian’s feelings started to collapse. He thought it was easy to be an heir, but he was wrong.
