Chapter 5: Is He Still Human?

Elena's words reverberated through the Wilson family's living room like an explosive detonation, leaving a deafening silence in their wake. Lucy and Mrs. Wilson were stunned, their mouths agape as if they could swallow eight eggs whole.

"I'm sorry, what did you just say?" Mrs. Wilson asked incredulously, wondering if she had misheard.

Elena shook her head, her meek and submissive husband now transformed into someone unrecognizable.

"I'll make sure that thrash learns a lesson for insulting our family," Lucy declared, grabbing her purse and storming out of the room in a fit of rage.

"Lucy, wait!" Elena called out, trying to stop her sister, but it was too late; Lucy had already vanished through the door.

Mrs. Wilson was displeased, but she didn't intervene; secretly, she supported Lucy's resolve.

"I don't think you should stop Lucy," Mrs. Wilson advised Elena when she saw her reaching for her phone. "That thrash husband of yours has suddenly grown wings overnight, and we need to put a stop to it."

Elena hesitated, looking nervous. "What should we do? Grandmother's birthday is this weekend, and if Jayson doesn't come with us, Gabby will realize that we're not together again," she said, her face deeply creased with worry.

Mrs. Wilson fell silent, recognizing the magnitude of the problem. How could they convince Jayson to accept Elena's unborn child? As she pondered a solution, she asked, "Aren't you still his wife? You two are legally married and yet to be divorced, so there's no need to worry. And regarding your unborn child, haven't you been sleeping in the same room?"

Elena felt her cheeks flush with embarrassment as she spoke hesitantly to her mother. "Mom, Jayson and I have been sharing a room for the past three years, but he sleeps on the floor and I sleep on the bed. He has never once laid a finger on me."

Mrs. Wilson's face lit up with excitement as she clapped her hands together. "Good for you, my dear! That worthless excuse for a husband should stay at least 200 kilometers away from you."

Elena was taken aback by her mother's reaction, leaving her at a loss for words. Mrs. Wilson quickly fell silent upon seeing her daughter's expression. Elena's mind raced as she tried to figure out how to make Jayson believe he was the father of her unborn child.

"Elena, we need to do everything we can to get Jayson to come back home. We can't afford to lose Gabby's support if we want to secure the upcoming $500 million project," Mrs. Wilson said, her voice filled with concern.

Elena nodded in agreement. "I'll do my best, Mom."

Jayson lay leisurely on the poolside, appearing calm on the outside, but his heart raced with terror. Tonight, he would face Mayhem Hayden in the underground boxing ring.

"I can last five minutes with him," Jayson muttered to himself in an attempt to boost his confidence.

Suddenly, he heard someone call out, "Trashy Jay!"

Jayson lazily opened his eyes and saw Lucy approaching him like a tigress stalking her prey. But he chose to ignore her completely, shutting his eyes again.

Lucy stood before him, trembling with fury. How dare this thrashy being ignore her? She clenched her fists, digging her fingernails into her palms in frustration. This was unacceptable, unbelievable.

Through gritted teeth, she venomously spat out his name, "Jayson."

Jayson's attempt at relaxation was disrupted by her persistent disturbance, causing him to open his eyes in annoyance and curse.

"Ugly wretch, why are you calling my name? I hate ugly people calling it scram before I have nightmares tonight."

Lucy's face turned red with anger as she was scolded by a trash. Her hands trembled as she fought to control her emotions.

Jayson gave her a sideways glance and snapped, "What are you still doing here? Do you honestly think anyone wants to look at your hideous face? Scram!"

Lucy couldn't take it any longer. She screamed and charged at Jayson like a wild animal.

But Jayson was quick on his feet and easily dodged her attack. As Lucy stumbled forward, she tripped over the lounge chair where Jayson had been sitting and fell to the ground.

Jayson expressed his disgust with a look of disdain as he said, "Did this ugly woman just try to hug me? damn! I must have committed an intolerable sin in my past life to suffer such injustice."

Lucy overheard every word that Jayson uttered, but it made her feel sick to her stomach. Her anger boiled over and she vomited blood.

Jayson quickly left the area, as if he was avoiding something unclean. He instructed the receptionist not to disclose his room number and disappeared into his own room.

He rested on the bed, feeling calm, until the sky outside grew darker and he began to feel overwhelmed with pressure.

In a rush, he got dressed and slipped out of the hotel, spotting the Wilson family members lingering nearby. "What a family of lunatics!" he muttered under his breath, flagging down a taxi and jumping inside.

Exiting the taxi, he made his way to the subterranean boxing arena. The boisterous applause that evening was twice as thunderous as the prior occasion he had attended.

Jayson surprised the registrar's booth by showing up. The man in charge was taken aback but still acknowledged him. "Kid, you came?" he asked incredulously.

Jayson nodded firmly and replied, "Of course."

The man gave him a thumbs up, impressed by Jayson's decision to die young. "Come with me; your fight is up next," he announced, leading the way.

However, Jayson suddenly hesitated and grew hesitant. The man looked back and reminded him, "You have to wear a custom." But when he turned back, he saw that Jayson wasn't following him anymore.

As he gazed down at Jayson's legs, he noticed they were shaking. The corners of his mouth twitched as he posed the question, "Are you absolutely certain you want to go through with this, kid?"

Jayson shot back, "Nonsense, I'm more than willing," and pushed forward.

He was escorted to the changing room and, once dressed, instructed to make his way to the stage.

"Tonight is the night that we are all waiting for—the match against our champion, Hayden!"

The crowd was filled with excitement and energy as they erupted into cheers.

The announcer's voice boomed through the arena, "And now, in the ring, we have a man from the future facing off against the undefeated champion of the underground boxing ring, the one and only Hayden!"

Suddenly, a massive man with a body like a chimpanzee and towering over everyone else appeared and made his way to the ring. Jayson felt his heart rate quicken and his legs go weak as he watched in awe. He couldn't help but wonder, with Hayden's impressive physique, was he even still human?
