The errand boy

Chapter 8

Inside the club is filled with bubbling lights and calm music, every interior use inside was sophisticated ranging from the lodges to the bar and the relaxation area with an adorned piece of art and a bar filled with a wide range of drinks to suit every taste of their members.

Behind the building, there was also a swimming pool and places for sports like golf, table tennis, and volleyball, which is why people find pleasure in coming here because, other than just the quality of the place, there were fine things that they could do or watch others doing.

Lucas's gaze met the family of eight that were all sitting at a spacious lodge, and he strided towards them, biting his lip nervously.

“Lucas! What the hell are you doing here, and who told you that you can finally come back to the clan's annual meeting?”

Sean roared as he got on his feet while the entire family that was having a chit-chat turned their attention to him.

“How did you get inside?” Uncle Tristan asked.

"I noticed this gathering is incomplete without me. I was not angry that I wasn't invited; you should be grateful that I made it here," he said sarcastically.

"Lucas, have you forgotten that you are no longer a member of this family? One of the rules of our clan is that once expelled, you can't come back. You have to leave this place, or else you will be thrown out of here." Kendrick explained

"The rules forgot to remove Cooper from my name when expelling me. So, I'm here for nothing but to answer Cooper's name," he said teasingly and spun. He pretended to leave.

“Wait! ” Madam Jane called out as he came to a halt, and everyone focused their attention on her.

“It is going to be a long night, and we will be needing someone to serve the drinks and other things needed. How about he stays the night, and once we are done, we can send the bouncers to throw him out?”.

She explained, and everyone nodded in accord. Lucas sighed loudly, exhilarated that she finally had a chance to be with these people.

"Lucas, you can go ahead and stand behind us while we have a discussion.”.

"Yes, ma.” He replied politely and took a few steps backwards.

“For this year's anniversary, we are considering which artists we will be featuring; it is an entertainment industry, and we toil hard to forge these artists into what they are, so I think that it is time we showcase them.”

Madam Jane explained while everyone at the Coopers Clan was seated except for Lucas, who stood behind them and had his gaze elsewhere.

“Before we talk about the anniversary, I think that we should first discuss the blockbuster movie director Jared is working on.”

“I read through the proposal he presented, and the cost of the movie is indeed high. With the current situation of our company right now, I do not think that we can find his movie.”

Tristan explained that Madam Jane opened her mouth to speak, but a waiter came over to their table, dressed in plain black trousers and a silk white shirt, with a professional and polite smile on his face.

“Good day everyone, and welcome to ALL STARS CLUB. What would you like to have? There is our special wine, which is our most expensive for tonight; it is the 1945 Domaine de la Romanee-Conti Grand Cru, and we have only ten bottles.”

“We will have the entire ten bottles,” Sean replied quickly, and Lucas stared at him, stunned, because he had previously worked at a company where foreign wines were being imported and he knew how expensive the wine was.

“Sean, you want the entire ten bottles; don't you think that we should order five first?” Kendrick, who is the second son of the family and in his early fifties, suggested, but Sean was so determined to show off, especially in front of Lucas, who was doing that when he was in school when they were both growing up.

He needed to show him that, although he was not successful as a student, he was more successful in the real world.

“You do not have to worry about the cost, uncle; I am going to foot the entire bill.”

“Are you sure about this?” His father, Tristan, asked, knowing that the company was going through a rough patch.

“Do not worry, Father; I am fully capable of paying for a few bottles of wine." He replied, and Lucas, who stood behind him, could not help but scoff because he knew the price of the wine and the cost of bottles of it.

The waiter was excited that he was able to sell off their most expensive wine so easily and hurried back to get their order just in case they decided to change their mind.

After a few minutes, two waiters came back. The first one carried a tray of wine, and the other held the glasses and carefully placed them on the table.

“Would you like us to serve, sir?”

“You do not have to worry about that; we have someone for that." Sean exclaimed sarcastically and diverted his gaze to Lucas, who immediately stepped forward to serve them the expensive wine.

He filled each glass almost to the brim and overfilled Sean's own to the extent that it poured on the table.

"Lucas, are you out of your mind? See how you ruin my clothes with wine? This stupidity has not left you. I thought you had outgrown it after leaving for several years. This boy should leave here right away." Sean exclaimed.

"How dare you command where I am? I was thinking of sending him out before you made a judgment; the last time I checked, you are not the head of this family. So you can't make decisions where we are. Because of what you said, he will stay till the end of this meeting, and there is nothing anyone can do about it," Kendrick exclaimed.

"Let's continue with the meeting," Kendrick commanded.

Tristan shot Kendrick a dead glance for commanding where he was being the head of the family. He didn't want to scold him so that Kendrick would not have bad feelings toward his son.

“It is going to be difficult saying no to Jared Hugo, considering how much we will be making from the movie, and this could help revive our company,” Jane suggested as she slowly sipped through her glass of wine with her legs crossed.

She was in her early seventies but still looked sophisticated as a result of constant check-ups, Medicare, and utmost care for her entire immune system. Her skin was glittering under the yellow silk dress she wore with light make-up to enhance her complexion.

She is the second wife of Mr. Amos, who was their grandfather, and she is also the last survivor of the third generation of the Coopers family, which is why they listen to her voice. But the company was run by Tristan as the CEO and Kendrick as the managing director, despite being illiterate, while Sean was the head of A and R in their entertainment section.  Tristan let his son carry out his CEO duties because he wanted him to inherit the company.

“I understand how much we need this movie to produce under our company, but there is no fund that can be spared for such an expensive movie. I am sorry, Aunt. We have to let it go and hope that we can be able to revive the company a little with the upcoming anniversary.”.

Madam Jane sighed loudly, knowing that they would only be able to raise half of what they needed for the anniversary.
