Chapter 10: Hidden Truths

Nights passed, still winds blew and ears listened as lips gossiped.

The students drew to the secret places of their dormitory, all for one reason, WHO WILL BE THE NEXT WINNER OF THE BIG STUDENT AWARD?

"Tina Steven has already won the competition," Richmond heard some female students talking as he limped by.

"But that isn't sure, I heard there is a new student that would also love to win the contest. His parents are stinking rich," another said.

Richmond pulled away from them. "Who could this new student be," he thought.

Will he threaten the new position he was about to acquire in school or even aid his revenge?

Those were the questions in his mind longing was answers.

The day for the big Student's party finally came as anticipated.

Richmond went out to get the clothes that he would be needing for the party as non of his clothes befitted someone that stands a chance of winning any of the awards.

He went into a boutique with his tattered clothes and got the things he would be needing.

"This would be enough," he said to himself.

He limped over to the cashier and paid off for the clothes immediately.

Immediately John and Michael saw him limping with the new clothes in his hands, they burst out into laughter.

"What exactly do you think you are doing limping mond? Do you think that you can ever win the awards with those trash you call clothes," John inquired.

"John is right, you should not spend your life savings on something you can never even think of getting. It is way above our reach talk less of yours," Michael advised.

"Thank you guys for your worthless advice, I don't think I will be needing any it because I have already won this contest," Richmond announced.

John and Michael could not believe their ears. They stared at Richmond with disbelief and burst out laughing again.

"First it was a cure for every known disease in the world now this?" Michael laughed.

"You never seem to amaze me limping Mond with your stupid fantasies," John laughed with tears almost dropping from his eyes.

Richmond stared at them with his anger gradually rising.

But he was able to control an outburst because today was the day he was going to show them that he was no longer the Richmond they are used to and there was no need blowing things up. All because of their little drama.

A few hours later.

Richmond got quickly into his new clothes and wore his new pair of shoes.

He stared at his legs and sighed. His clothes would have fitted him perfectly if not for his broken limb.

"Just wished you could be perfect," he said remembering that painful night he was chashed out and tears gradually fell from his eyes

Then, Michael and John walked into the room. They wore sparkling white jeans and a pair of white jackets.

Richmond quickly cleaned up his tears so that they would not notice that he had been crying.

"Are you ready to bag your award," Michael said. But Richmond didn't fail to recognize his sarcasm, he shot a glare at him.

"No need to kill me with those glares of yours," Michael chuckled.

"Let's get going, or we will get late," John snapped.

They turned to leave but then, Richmond felt a sharp pain in his legs.

"My leg," he cried out in pain.

John and Michael turned around quickly to see what was happening to Richmond...

"What's wrong," Michael inquired.

"My legs, it hurts," Richmond exclaimed.

"Just great," John gasped silently.

Michael quickly looked down at Richard's feet and noticed what could be causing the pain, it was his shoe.

"It your shoe dummy, you are going to get us late for the party," he snapped.

"Why didn't you just stick with your slippers, now see what you have caused," John mumbled angrily.

Quickly, Richmond bent down with tears dripping from his eyes and he pulled off the shoe. He felt a little bit better but the pain was still there.

"Mr. Limping award winner," John kept exclaiming.

Richmond stared at his slippers just beside the bed waiting to be picked up.

He sighed deeply. There were still some part of his life that could not be erased even with his newly acquired wealth.

Such as this. But the scars of this dark side could be washed, only with the fruits of his revenge.

"We are waiting for you dummy," John snapped already getting irritated.

Richmond sighed.

Meanwhile, David drove Tina in his car as they headed for the big student party which was to be held at the student conference Hall.

Tina wore a beautiful and delicate sliver colored gown which costs over three hundred thousand dollars and her silver shoes cost over two hundred.

David had gotten them for the party with the whole of his salary for the previous month.

A smile hovered on Tina's face as she thought about what a whole year of being the queen of her college would feel like.

David had assured her that everything was under his control and she was certainly going to get that crown on her head as she had always wished.

"I can't wait to have that crown on my head," Tina announced with a smile on her face.

"Sure! It would fit you perfectly and make the queen that you already are," David replied with a faked smile but there was no trace of joy in his voice.

Tina could not help but notice his gloomy mood. He had been like that since evening and she wondered why.

"What's wrong," Tina inquired.

David swallowed hard before answering this question. He wished he could tell her the truth.

His application for a prepayment which was supposed to help Tina get her award was declined.

But he had lied to her that he had already gotten the money.

But this wasn't the only problem, he also lost his job and the most painful fact was that he wasn't even given a sack letter. Just a text relieving him of his duties.

And he had spent all his savings on her clothes, now what was he going to survive on?

"What did I do to deserve all this," he thought.

A stream of tears shot from his eyes but he pushed them back immediately.

This was certainly under his control.

"What's wrong," Tina inquired again bringing him back to the present.

"There is nothing wrong," David replied.

David's heart skipped a lot of beats as he saw the grand hall for the party right before them.

"Gulp," he swallowed a large lump.

"Finally, we are here," Tina announced.

"Yeah, I can't wait to see that crown on your head," David said trying to hide the fear in his eyes.

"Thank you darling, I could never think about doing such a thing without your help," she smiled.

David opened the car and she came down quickly but David lingered a little, not ready you move an inch.

"Aren't you coming with me darling," Tina inquired.

"I am right behind you, just want to get my bank card," David lied.

"Okay, I will be in the hall with my friend, Maona," Tina replied and walked away.

David watched her as she walked away and tears gradually escaped from his eyes.

"Shit," he exclaimed hitting his hands on the story of the car.

"What do I do now, I can't face this disgrace," he sobbed.

But he had to go, he could not keep Tina waiting.

He came down swiftly from the car and the first person his eyes met made his face disappear into a grin.

It was Gerald, the child of the people that always brought fear to the heart of his father.

From the little David knew about him, he was the heir of the richest family in that city.

The family that chased it's true heir, Richard out of their Villa.
