Chapter 11: THE TWIST

Richmond limped gradually to the student conference hall with Michael and John walking right beside him.

Some fellow students walked by and noticed Richmond in his new clothes.

"Is Richmond also dragging his broken to the party?" They mocked.

"He even bought new clothes," another giggled.

"Well, he should not always he looking like a piglet," they laughed.

Richmond pulled his ears swiftly away from their mocking laughter.

They got into the life buzzing hall just few minutes before the mean events began.

They, he heard Michael and John whispering among themselves.

"It's the new kid," John whispered gesturing to a boy that sat at the far end of the hall.

"Which new kid?" Richmond inquired not seeing anybody.

"Are you blind? Can't you see him over there," John growled?

Richmond strained his eyes harder but all he could pick out from the events happening was that someone was surrounded by a crowd of students.

He wondered what sort of family the new student came from. So wealthy that he just came and he already has so much influence.

"Oh my God," isn't he gorgeous," John exclaimed leaving them to meet the new

boy.

Richmond watched as the crowd around the young boy gradually cleared off.

He was indeed handsome but Richmond would have been more handsome but broken limbs always told another story.

"I know that feeling too," Michael whispered into his ears.

"What feeling," Richmond inquired.

"When something betrays everything else," he replied.

Richmond was even more confused. "Why was he being so kind?" Richmond inquired.

"Well, I am just trying to console you," Michael replied.

"About what?"

"About that," He said gesturing to Tina as she walked into the hall. "I will have to leave you with the love of your life now," Michael said mockingly.

Immediately Richmond saw her, his face disappeared into hatred and disdain.

He hated her so much after what she did to him that he felt like smashing her head on the wall.

"The deed has already been done, there is nothing you can do to her lover boy," Michael mocked.

Richmond watched as Tina walked towards him and he could already feel his anger rising so bad that he had to clutch his hands to control it.

"Hi dummy came to watch me bag queen of the year," she mocked as she got to him.

But Richmond didn't give her any response, she only stared at him in anger.

"Stay mute as much as you want, but all you need to know is that I and my friends will be using this spot until we are called to the golden table," she announced.

At this point, Richmond almost exploded but he was able to control an outburst.

"I'm sorry but I came here before you did so I earned this spot," Richmond replied angrily.

"How dare, you have the guts to talk to beauties like us with your half-rotten limb," Moana thundered.

"At least it is better than your half-baked brain that can't even earn the both of you a grade above average," Richmond thundered.

He said this so calmly but the hall re-echoed the sound of his voice and everybody in the hall burst into laughter.

"What's funny," Tina glared at all of them and they stopped laughing immediately.

"Thank you stars that my David isn't here yet, you won't be standing here spilling nonsense," Tina thundered.

"As I have said earlier, he should help your grades first," Richmond replied not moved.

Tina growled at him. She was so angry that she raised her hands to slap him but Richmond held her hand in the air and threw it down.

"Don't dare," He fired.

At this point, a security officer standing at the edge of the door noticed what was happening and he journeyed over to them.

"Immediately I become the queen of this college, I will treat those freaking ass of yours," Tina glared and she began to walk away.

"Let's see how you win the award," Richmond returned the glare.

Richmond watched and he noticed David walking into the hall.

He looked frustrated and confused. "Just what I need," Richmond whispered to himself.

A few minutes later, Michael and John returned just when the contest was about to begin.

The former queen and King sat on the stage acting as the judges, while the rest of the candidates had to go to another hall to buy their tickets.

Richmond's eyes scanned through the people in the stage ant he noticed that the new kid wasn't there and David stood close to Tina like a dead log.

"I have to go now," Richmond noted.

"To where?" Michael and John replied.

Richmond walked up to the stage to buy the tickets which would signify the beginning of his journey.

Immediately the students saw him limping up to the stage, they burst into laughter.

"What does the limping mind think he is doing," he heard someone laughing from the hall.

"He should not say I didn't warn him," Michael whispered into John's ear with a sigh.

Immediately Tina saw Richmond standing next to her, she screamed with anger.

"What do you think we are doing here, a child's play for poor people like you?" She thundered.

"I have got a chance to participate just the same way you do," Richmond replied irritated.

"Do you think the King of college even befits you, you stink for God's sake and your broken limb is a disqualification on its own. Not to mention the fact that you are one of the poorest students in this university," Tina growled.

Immediately she mentioned these facts, a stream of hot tears formed in his eyes.

He wanted to go back immediately but he was able to pin himself to the ground.

Then, a security officer came over.

"What is happening here again," he inquired.

"It's this poor fool," she growled. "He thinks this is child's play," she explained to the security officer.

"Is that true," the security officer inquired.

"Certainly not, I came here fully prepared to win," Richmond announced.

"I can bet he doesn't have more than one hundred dollars in his bank account," Tina announced.

Immediately the crowd of students listening to this heard this, they burst out into laughter again.

Richmond grinned at the crowd again. He just couldn't wait to prove all of them wrong starting with this fool called Tina.

"What proof do you have to back what you just said," the security officer inquired.

"His life is the proof. Someone who has more than that will not be wearing bathroom slippers to such an occasion," she shot a snare at Richmond.

The security officer stared at Richmond and his face vanished into a grin immediately he confirmed what Tina just said.

"I am afraid you will have to go back to your seat," the security officer announced, making Richmond's heart sink.

"I can't go, sir, I came here fully prepared," he announced making the security officer foam with anger.

"Then there is one way to find out. If by any means I find out that you are playing games with me, then it won't be good for you," he fired.

"Where is your bank card," he inquired.

Richmond brought out his sparkling silver card from his pocket and placed it into the card slot on of the cash machine.

As he imputed his password into the machine, he could feel his heart beating hard against his chest.

He just couldn't afford to be disgraced before the crowd of students and judges.

"Calm down Richmond," he calmed himself.

The cost of the ticket was a million dollars and he had way about that in his account so, there was no need to be frightened.

"INSUFFICIENT FUNDS," the machine read.

Immediately Richmond saw this, his heart sank and the whole hall flooded with laughter.

"Just as I heard said but no one would listen to me," Tina snapped.
