SHIELDING NINA

Chapter 8: Shielding Nina

Luke could sense that Nina was uneasy as they drove in silence. He had noticed the sadness on her face and wondered what was bothering her. After a few minutes, Luke initiated a conversation and asked her what was wrong. Nina hesitated for a while before finally opening up to him.

Nina told Luke that one of her admirers was going to attend the same university as them. Her parents approved of him, but she didn't like him. She had moved to this university to avoid him, but now that he was coming, she was worried about what might happen. Nina wanted to be in a free relationship and did not want any commitment. Her admirer was from the richest family and her parents has wanted to seal a deal with their engagement. She added my mum saw him once drive in an expensive car and showed interest of making I and him an item.

From Nina's face she really had great hatred for that guy and never wished to see him ever again in her life.

Luke listened patiently to Nina's story, and he decided to help her. He promised to be her shield and protect her from her admirer.  And not only from her admirer but also from the internal forces from campus which are likely to be Fiona and David.He felt that it was his turn to protect her now that she had protected him earlier. She walked through to save his ass whenever Fiona and her friends are humiliating him way back from those days. Nina felt relieved and grateful to Luke for his support. This really made the bond that was between them a stronger one, Nina never like Luke not for what he was back then but for her own personal reasons but they became best friends.

As they arrived at the university, they saw David and Fiona in the parking lot. Luke didn't feel angry, as he had accepted his new position in life. Luke thought they are so relieved of getting him off the track but it didn't seemed that way He didn't mind them seeing him with Nina. However, David and Fiona approached them and started to cause trouble.

David and Fiona had always been jealous of Luke's friendship with Nina. They had often ridiculed him for being poor and not being good enough for Nina. However, things had changed now, and Luke was no longer the same person. He was wealthy and had a powerful family behind him. David and Fiona refused to accept the fact that Luke had suddenly become rich and no longer drives in the old car again.

They even went on telling the other colleagues that,he has just gone to rent those cars just to woo the ladies in the school.

David and Fiona tried to intimidate Luke, but he stood his ground. He warned them to stay away from him and Nina and not to mess with him. David and Fiona were taken aback by Luke's confidence and backed off. And with this they really meant for Luke really made up his mind to fight back if they ever try that nonsense with him again.

Nina was impressed by Luke's bravery and appreciated his protection. She felt that he was a true friend who had her back. They went to their classes, and Luke could sense that Nina was more relaxed now that she had him by her side. He felt he had gotten near the promises he made to her to be her shield from henceforth.

After class, Luke drove Nina home. As they approached her house, Luke noticed that her family's estate was grand and luxurious. He wondered what her family did for a living, but he didn't ask her.

Nina thanked Luke for his help and promised to repay him someday. She gave him a warm hug before getting out of the car. Luke drove back to his apartment, feeling satisfied that he had helped his friend.

As he lay in bed that night, Luke couldn't help but think about Nina's family. He knew that they were wealthy and had connections. He wondered if they had anything to do with the accident that had changed his life forever. Luke felt that he needed to investigate and find out the truth. He made a mental note to do some digging in the coming days.

The next morning, Luke woke up early and decided to visit the university library to research Nina's family. He spent several hours there, poring over books and documents. He discovered that Nina's family was indeed influential and had connections to several powerful people.

Luke felt that he was getting closer to the truth and decided to dig deeper. He planned to ask Nina about her family and find out if they had any involvement in the accident that had changed his life forever.

As he walked out of the library, Luke felt a sense of determination. He was going to uncover the truth and protect himself and his loved ones from harm. Luke knew that he had the power and resources to make a difference, and he was ready to use them.

Luke visited the house quiet often in the name of picking Nina to school and bringing her back safely in her house. They never liked each other but till then they had become best friends.

Luke never left Nina's sight for just once for he knew what Fiona and his David were capable of doing.

One morning as they drove to school, Nina had in her hands one bracelet for which she left in Luke's car.

Luke picked it up and tried to look through it for sometime,he saw the photos of Nina's parents and he found out that they were not as rich from the beginning.

He started to ponder on the issue, how then did they get rich like this,this really encourage him to dig more depper. Luke said to himself, even if this has no connection with my parents death there must be something else .

Luke found out something, Nina's family was in connection with rich people across the country and had powerful people behind them,so with the business they were running thy paid no taxes to the government that was the reason they could accumulate such great wealth to themselves for this period of time.
