CHAPTER THREE

UNNECESSARY HOSTILITY

Jake felt like his head was about to pop open and explode. No! He was probably dreaming. This was too much for only him in a day. How could he lose his wife and job on the same day?

He had to confirm this expensive prank that his mind was playing on him. "Mr Davis, what do you mean?"

The latter glanced at him casually and ignored him. "Guards! Please throw this man out of the building!" He ordered them and walked away.

Two burly men barged in and one of them hoisted Jake up. He was being thrown out of the building like trash. He felt like he was going to die as he struggled to stand up. He had lost his wife, his car, and his job on the same day. Now he had nothing left in this world he would just die.

Yeah! He was going to end it all. This pain and suffering threatened to choke him down. Just as he was about to step out into the traffic, he felt a hand grab his arm and pull him back.

"What do you think you're doing!?" The stranger said with urgency.

"Are you crazy!? Why do you care!?" He snapped, glaring at the man.

"You can't just do that!" The man continued.

"Mind your business!" He yelled in a frenzy. "You know nothing about me or what I'm going through!"

The stranger's facial expression suddenly changed. "Alright then, you can go ahead and kill yourself. This card," he said, flashing a green card in his face. "Is for you. Your grandfather had instructed me to give it to you." He finished, and walked away, leaving Jake dumbfounded.

He didn't come back to his right senses not until after the man had gone out of sight. "Which way did he go." He mumbled, scanning the entire area. What did he mean by grandfather? He'd been an orphan all his life. He didn't even have parents let to talk of grandparents. What kind of a silly joke was that?

He took a careful look at the card and saw his name boldly engraved on it. How come? He wondered. He couldn't remember owning such a card. Who was the strange man that had given him? Or was it a parting gift from Madison?

Different thoughts flooded his brain and his head hurt from thinking too much. Now, the very thought of ending his life was dispelled from his mind. He found a newly fueled hope. He wanted to find out what the card was. Who the strange man was and most importantly why Madison had decided to break up their marriage.

Walking into a nearby bank, he glanced at the card again, wondering the kind of mystery that the little thing contained.

"Jake?" A voice sneered in derision behind him.
