Good News

"Can't I come here?" Rachel frowned as she stared at her daughter.

"Mum, every time you come, you end up wanting to make me divorce Max which is impossible, no matter what you'll say I'll never divorce him," Michelle argued.

"Foolish girl, who said I'm here to make trouble for you both?" Rachel smiled while shooting Max a disdainful glare.

She wondered what sort of sorcery Max had used on her daughter that was making her refuse to divorce a useless man like him.

There were young masters of many prominent families she could get married to and live a better life other than living in such a crappy place.

Her eyes were full of disgust as she looked around. If only her daughter could be more sensible, then she'll be living a good life instead of living such a wretched life.

Well, she wasn't to blame, she could only blame her father who had approved of the two marriages before he died. If only he hadn't given his consent then this wouldn't have happened.

Max on the other hand didn't care about Rachel's disdainful look. He was already used to it so there was no way he could be disturbed about it. Furthermore, as long as it was not his wife who wished it, no one in the world could make him divorce her.

"Then mum, I know you're not here to greet us, what are you here for?" Michelle frowned, staring at her mum.

"You won't even ask your mum to sit, you just started to barrage her with questions as she came, how unfilial you are." Rachel sighed.

"Mum, I don't care about what you say, tell me what you're here for or I'll be forced to ask you to leave," Michelle demanded coldly.

She knew her mum didn't come for something good so she wasn't in the mood to talk nicely. Furthermore, she couldn't bear to see anyone talking bad about Max as she wouldn't be able to take it.

She moved the latter greatly even though she had always been cold to him. Before the death of her grandfather who had approved of their marriage, he wanted her to hold onto him as he was bound to achieve great things.

Rachel sighed and looked at her daughter who was staring defiantly at her and didn't know what to say next. Well, that was none of her business. She had come to deliver a message to her.

"The contract proposal you submitted at Dominus Technologies was approved, meaning the company won the contract." Rachel smiled.

Michelle's expression changed upon hearing what her mother said and she couldn't help but be happy. Initially, she didn't have hope as many other companies were participating in the bid.

Who didn't know about Dominus Technologies, it was one of the top ten technological companies in the city worth billions of dollars. The company was owned by one of the most prominent families in the city so They were giving contracts out to real estate companies as they needed to build a large warehouse, and the contract was worth over a hundred million.

It wasn't a small amount of money to Summit Real Estate company, Michelle's mother's company where she worked, so she quickly forwarded a proposal. But who would have thought that she was going to win it?

"Are you satisfied with the news?" Rachel smiled as she looked at Michelle bringing her out of her thoughts.

Michelle couldn't help but smile at her mother, but then the next second, the smile disappeared as she felt her mother hadn't finished telling the news.

"So what's next?"

"Just as I expected." Rachel smiled.

"You're to head to the Four Seasons hotel tomorrow to talk about the signing of the contract and other things."

Michelle frowned and didn't say anything else. She didn't think much about what her mother said. After all, it was normal for business partners to meet at hotels to discuss work.

"I'll be taking my leave, that's all I have to say." Rachel smiled and shot Max a look of let's see what you are going to do.

Max on the other hand had a frown on his face after hearing Rachel's news. He could tell that something was wrong, but then he couldn't tell where exactly it was wrong.

Even though it was just his speculation, he wasn't going to give up, he was going to investigate the matter.

"Max, can you believe I got the contract?" Michelle jumped happily as she lost the demeanor of a woman and proceeded to hug him tightly.

Max smiled and wanted to say something, but then he didn't want to spoil the atmosphere and shut his mouth. He was going to investigate the matter and see what was happening.

After a while, Michelle came back to her senses and disengaged from the hug before rushing into her room, her face blushing red.

Max could only smile bitterly seeing Michelle's action. He must understand her. One moment, she was cold, another she was suddenly cheerful and even hugging him.

Then after coming back to her senses, she couldn't face him and ran away. It seems like he would have to work on that.

Smiling, Max stood up and went to the kitchen to prepare food. He guessed Michelle must be tired so she wouldn't have much strength to cook.

Besides, he was sure that she would be too happy to do anything because of the news. But then Max couldn't help but remember Rachel's gaze.

He could sense that something was wrong. No matter how much he thought about it, he couldn't bring himself to understand what was happening.

If he was right the Dominus Technologies belonged to the Carols family. Could it be that they were scheming something which was beyond his reach?

Well, he couldn't underestimate Rachel, he had to find out as quickly as he could. But then it could only wait till the next day.

Pushing all thoughts to the back of his mind, Max concreted the food he was cooking.
