Sophia’s hands were locked together so tightly her knuckles went pale.

Every breath she drew felt ragged, quivering with dread. Beside her in the car, Hanks kept his posture rigid.

He knew better than to lay a finger on a woman destined for Harlan Drake.

He valued his own skin too much.

“Listen up,” Hanks said in a low, steady voice. “You’re about to meet Harlan Drake. Do exactly what he tells you. Man’s got no patience, and he’ll break you if you give him a reason. One swing from him could shatter every bone in that slender arm of yours.”

When the car finally stopped, Hanks threw the door open. “Out. Now. Don’t make me haul you out myself.”

Sophia’s legs trembled as she stepped onto the gravel.

The mansion sprawled before her—its cold, imposing silhouette framed by perfectly trimmed hedges.

A heavy sense of foreboding clung to the air. Hanks clamped a hand around her arm and dragged her inside, the grand entry hall gleaming with polished marble floors and crystal chandeliers.

Felicia hated being looked down on. But today, it felt like the entire street had gathered just to spit on her pride.Even strangers were pointing at Alex like he was some circus mistake.“See that man?” a woman sneered loudly. “That’s Alex the dunce—the walking error. He doesn’t even understand basic math, let alone advanced.”She turned to her young son and jabbed a finger at Alex.“You know what you’ll become if you’re that stupid? A dog wrapped in human skin. Just like him.”The boy frowned. “But… I heard he already escaped from being Rosenheim’s dog?”“Oh, sure,” the woman said, her voice dripping with poison. “Escaped to do what? Be a gardener for the Eden Group? A glorified cleaning service.”“Plucking leaves. And look at his mother-in-law—showing up here screaming about a loan she can’t even pay back. Do you want to end up like him, or have a mother-in-law like that?”Felicia’s face flushed a violent red.It burned—humiliation, rage, disgust—like someone had smacked her with a

Alex walked past the assassin as if the man didn’t exist. He just kept walking toward the restaurant—calm, steady, and untouched, as if nothing at all had happened. The assassin did the same—gliding by him like nothing had happened—yet sweat soaked the inside of his coat. His hand still trembled from what he’d just done.A moment earlier, he had meant to drive his knife straight into Alex’s heart.Instead, the blade jerked backward as if ripped by an invisible force, and he stabbed himself—deep in the shoulder, slicing nearly halfway through his own arm.The assassin bolted. He slapped a quick bandage over the wound while running, blood soaking through his sleeve. He stumbled into his flying car, slammed the door, and shot into the sky.But he wasn’t alone.Another flying car rose right behind him, tailing him with smooth precision.A voice message crackled through Alex’s bracelet a moment later.“I’m right on his tail. I’ll track him and find the mastermind,” the operative reported.

Alex was stunned for a moment. He couldn’t believe this woman still had the nerve to taunt him.He nodded slowly. “Of course. Of course.”Alrun turned with a triumphant smile, certain that her taunt had finally shut him up. In her mind, Alex was still the same pathetic dog from Rosenheim—loud when he barked, but crawling back the moment she snapped.“Mr. Ernest,” Alex said suddenly. “Did you know Miss Alrun here is my friend?”Ernest blinked, caught off guard. “Miss Alrun… you’re Mr. Saint-Claire’s friend?”“Yes! Yes!” Alrun blurted, almost tripping over her own words. “Alex and I were great friends for three years!”That was all Ernest needed to hear.“Well then… starting today,” he declared without a second of hesitation, “you will take over as the General Manager of the entire Imperial Amber Houses.”It was a massive jump—four tiers in a single breath. A general manager’s salary, benefits, and authority were on an entirely different level. They controlled staff across multiple bran

The guards started toward Alex, but he didn’t flinch. His expression stayed cold.“Alrun Treuburg,” Alex said, steady and firm, “I’ve never insulted you. I’ve never provoked you. So why do you keep mocking me?”Alrun folded her arms across her chest, chin tilted high. Her tone dripped with contempt.“You divorced Katarina—my friend—and married Sofina Scheinwald. Of course I despise you. So what?” She leaned in slightly. “Can’t handle a little dislike, you pathetic loser? And now you dare come here asking for my help? Who do you think you are?”Her sneer sharpened.“I heard the Wolfsbane family finally acknowledged you. I heard you’re walking around claiming your ancestors’ properties. Hate to break it to you, but this restaurant never belonged to the Saint-Claires. You walked into the wrong place.”Then her voice snapped like a whip. “Guards. Hit him and send him to the Rosenhiem family.”The human guards moved forward with menace—though Alex knew he could drop them all in seconds if

  • Chapter 472

Alex Saint-Claire stared at Baron Rainer with a cold, hollow expression.“When the Saint-Claire’s family was ambushed that night,” Alex said quietly, “the nobles came at us like wolves. They tore through everyone. My entire family died… except my father. Everything we owned was stolen, taken by whoever arrived fastest in the chaos.”“But the law is clear. No matter who looted what, every business tied to the Saint-Claire line still belongs to the Saint-Claire blood. If the family has no heir, only then can the name change—and even that takes a hundred years.”Alex stepped closer, “So yes, Baron Rainer—you’ve been allowed to use it. But that ends today.”“I, Alexander Saint-Claire, rightful heir, reclaim this property now. The Royal Prussia Fine Jewels belongs to the Marquis Saint-Claire. It always has.”A sudden pulse of blue light flickered from Alex’s bracelet. A three-dimensional document unfolded in midair, and the same holographic file materialized in front of Baron Rainer. The

Two android guards glided toward Alex.“Sir, you are requested to leave the store,” one said in its calm synthetic voice.Alex turned slowly. “And what exactly is my mistake? I asked to check the ring before buying it. Is it wrong to make sure what I’m buying is real?”The android paused, processing his words. Its eyes blinked once in rapid sequence. “Apologies, sir. There has been an error on our side. Please continue with your purchase.”The guards stepped back to their post.Alex glanced at Dorothea and smiled faintly. “Well, seems like even your guards agree with me.”Dorothea’s face flushed red with anger. “Guards! Drag this man out of my store!”The androids turned again, but one of them hesitated.“Supervisor Dorothea,” it said, “after reviewing the interaction, I find this man to be a polite and respectable customer. Please allow him to examine the ring. I believe this kind and handsome gentleman intends to make a purchase.”Dorothea’s voice cracked with fury. “You stupid mach
