An unexpected meeting

“Finally, back on solid ground!” Thomas exclaimed as he stretched his back while glancing at Elijah who had a nostalgic look on his face while scanning the airport area.

The two of them passed through the crowded Crystal Falls International Airport and casually ordered some fast food at the mall outside the airport.

“Captain… sorry, I mean, Elijah, your hometown is in the capital, correct?”

Elijah casually nodded in response, his gaze sweeping around, seemingly searching for someone.

It had been a long time since he left Crystal Falls and now that he had just returned, there were many things for him to tend to.

Just then, someone caught his eyes with the person making a gesture with Elijah repeating it to the person.

Satisfied with this, the person hurried over with Thomas standing guard beside Elijah.

The person was a tall muscular man in a dark coat and glasses.

Elijah calmly asked. “Have you got the information?”

“Just as you asked.”

“Tell me.”

“Miss Alice is still alive but she's been badly disfigured due to the fire accident on that fateful day.”

Elijah instinctively formed a fist, tightening his grip as his expression darkened.

To think that Alice has suffered so much all because of him.

“I also looked into the other case you told me about. I've outlined the families responsible for Miss Alice's downfall. I've sent all the information to your email. Please endeavor to check it out in your free time.”

“Alice, I owe you my life. I'll spend the rest of it repaying this debt of gratitude.” Elijah said before adding. “And for those that wronged us, a life debt is owed. Now that I'm back, I'll make them pay. For the death of my mother and for everything that's happened to Alice, they'll pay in blood. That is a promise.”

Outside the mall, ten tall and burly bodyguards with domineering auras and clad in suits walked towards Elijah and stood still in front of him, their gaze seemingly scrutinizing him.

Remaining still, Elijah raised a brow as he wondered what they were up to.

“Mister Silva.” A voice called out as the bodyguards parted to the sides, revealing an older man accompanied by a youth following closely behind.

The old man walked up to Elijah and made eye contact, then he bowed.

“I'm Albert Sanders, the chief butler of the Augustus family. I'm here to take you back to the capital.”

Elijah's gaze sharpened in an instant as he glared at Albert. “It's surprising that the almighty Augustus family still remembers that I exist. I recall being kicked out of that family together with my mother twenty-four years ago. You lot claimed that I was unworthy of being a part of the family and even warned my mother never to set foot in the capital, or else she'd been humiliated.

“So I am curious, where exactly in the capital are you taking me to?... Or do you mean to tell me that the Augustus family is no more?”

His voice was filled with hostility and anger that he had suppressed for years leaving Albert unsure of how to respond.

Of course, he was well aware that the Augustus family had been unfair to Elijah and his mother all those years ago but he was here on a mission and didn't wish to go back empty-handed.

So, letting out a sigh, he replied. “No matter what, so many years have passed and your grandfather is on his deathbed. He wished to spend time with his family before he passed. Can't you at least fulfill this last wish since you are a part of the Augustus family?”

“My name is Silva, not Augustus,” Elijah remarked. “If this is all you wished to tell me, then forgive me because I don't have the time to waste on such nonsense.”

Elijah turned to leave but Albert hurriedly stopped him. “Mr. Silva, please wait.”

Saying that he quickly gestured for the youth that was with him to raise the briefcase he was carrying and hand it over to Elijah respectfully.

“This is everything that your mother once held control over before the unfortunate incident that made her leave the capital. Now that she's no more, it's only right that you take over. Please treat it as compensation for all the wrongs you've had to endure.”

Elijah snorted derisively. “Compensation?... All you are offering me belonged to my mother in the first place. It was snatched from her so even if you didn't return it, I'd have taken it back on my terms!... How dare you offer what is rightfully mine as a gift?... And you expect me to be thankful?... Don't think I'm a fool, Albert, and don't dare to provoke me again; else, I might just forget the promise I made to my mother.”

Saying that Elijah pushed the bodyguards away and left with the briefcase.

Staring at his taut back, Albert let out a tired sigh. “Still as hot-tempered as ever.”

As the chief butler of the Augustus family, Albert was aware that the Augustus family had been unfair to Elijah and his mother back then.

Unfortunately, the situation in the capital was dire and there was no other way to remedy it than to find a way for Elijah to return to the capital.

Knowing fully well that he was in for a tough ride, Albert could only let out yet another sigh.
