Chapter 3

Feeling so humiliated and very sad, Jack finally chose to immediately leave the Osborne family residence. He had fully realized that he would never be able to get Lily again.

His opponent was Tobias Gray who was not only handsome but also extremely rich. His charm was so strong that even Lily was mesmerised by him.

Besides, Lily really didn't want him anymore. There was no other reason for him to keep Lily. Lily had become his ex-girlfriend now.

With a broken heart, Jack walked while enduring the hunger pangs that plagued him. However, just as he walked not too far away, he was surprised by a police car that stopped right near him.

Two policemen got out of the car and walked towards him, "Jack Morland, you are under arrest. Please come with us to the police station."

One of the policemen had grabbed his hand and was about to handcuff him.

Jack widened his eyes, "Wait a minute. What did I do wrong, sir? I didn't do anything."

The young man looked confused at one of the policemen who had already uncuffed him.

"You are under arrest for brazenly entering Lily Osborne's home without authorisation."

Jack's mouth dropped open.

"What? But I-"

"You can explain at the police station later," the policeman quickly handcuffed Jack, then took him to the car.

Once at the nearest police station, the officer immediately threw him into a holding cell.

"Sir, I'm innocent. I-"

"We've been sent a CCTV footage and you have indeed been found trespassing at the Osborne family home. Goodness, young man. You can't dodge it anymore."

"But, that's-"

"If you want to get out of here, someone has to vouch for you. How? Do you have any family to call?" the officer asked.

Jack clearly didn't have any.

He was an orphan and he lived in an orphanage since he was very young. He left that shelter when he started university.

Actually, the owner of the orphanage who was so kind to him still allowed him to stay there, but Jack refused.

He didn't want to make the orphanage pay more for him. He knew himself, so he chose to leave and live in the dormitory provided by the university for poor but outstanding students.

Jack also worked as a part-time worker in several places such as a restaurant and also a toilet cleaner in a mall to support himself.

"I have no family."

The policeman snorted and said again before leaving, "Therefore, behave yourself, boy!"

"What were you thinking? How dare you enter someone else's home, let alone the Osborne family. Do you want to rot in jail, huh?" another officer continued.

Jack wanted to scream right now. He knew he had indeed sneaked into Lily's house without permission, but he really never thought Lily would report him like this.

Jack thought hard but still couldn't find a way out.

About an hour later, someone came over to see him.

Jack's face hardened as soon as he saw the person. "You ... what are you doing here?"

"Seeing the fate of the sewer rat who dared to disturb me," Tobias said with a smirk.

Tobias took a quick peek at the holding cell occupied by Jack and frowned in disgust.

"How does it feel? Is it cold in there? Are there rats in there?" Tobias asked, but Jack didn't respond.

Tobias smiled with satisfaction, "I'm glad Lily finally listened to my suggestion to report you to the police."

Jack's head snapped round.

"So, you're the one trying to influence her? You ... why? You've got Lily, why do you still want to bother me?"

Tobias Gray laughed mockingly.

"Why? Oh, maybe because you dared to date Lily before me. Huh, this hurts my ego. I can't accept it."

Jack really didn't understand. He who was behind the cell could only reply, "Go away from me!"

"Wow, you dare to kick me out? Don't you want to know why I came here?"

"No need."

"Wow, what a pity! I wanted to give you one chance to get out of here. How is it? Aren't you interested?"

Jack turned to the man who had taken his girlfriend. "What do you mean?"

"I'll be your guarantor on one condition."

Jack knew Tobias would ask for something. "What do you want?"

"Kneel before me, kiss my feet and ask for my forgiveness for having the audacity to hit me. Then I'll set you free," Tobias explained as he was so sure that Jack would actually do it.

Jack gripped the bars.

"What are you waiting for? Don't you want to be free?" Tobias said with a smirk.

Jack took a step back, but didn't kneel down, "I'd rather rot here than have to do that."

Tobias' face turned purple instantly. "You idiot. You chose hell."

"Hell is better," Jack retorted fearlessly.

"Fine, if that's what you want. Have fun suffering in here. You'll never get out, Jack Morland." Tobias spat at Jack and the spittle hit Jack's shirt.

Tobias grinned with satisfaction and finally walked away after giving Jack a scornful look.

An annoyed Jack immediately took off the shirt that Tobias had spat on and could only sigh. He realized he had no hope of freedom.

Actually he was willing to do anything to be free, but not by being a fool in front of Tobias Gray who had trampled on his pride.

Not long after, the police officer came back there. "Jack Morland, you have been released."

As if he had misheard, Jack had a questioning expression on his face, "Released? Who released me?"

"Your family."

"My family? Who is that, sir?" Jack was naturally confused. He had no family at all.

Was it perhaps Lily Osborne who had let him go? Had she changed her mind? Did she actually still have some compassion for him?

But, it seemed unlikely. Jack knew the chances of Lily letting him go were not much.

"Do you want to come out or not?" The police officer's voice managed to startle him.

Jack hurriedly walked out of the holding cell.

"Where is the person who released me?" Jack asked.

"Near the gate."

Jack quickly walked to the front but he only saw two men in black suits standing there.

The first one looked old, probably in his sixties, while the other one looked rather young, probably around forty.

The younger person immediately rushed over, "Young Master."

Jack also looked at the person with a confused expression, "Young Master? Sorry, you seem to have the wrong person."

Now it was the older person's turn to approach Jack, "There's no mistake. You are Jack. Jack Morland."

Jack's eyes widened perfectly. "How do you know my name? Who are you?"

The old man immediately held Jack's shoulders and said in a low voice, "Of course I know you. You're my grandson, Jack. And I'm Hugh, Hugh Morland, your grandfather."

The man moved to hug Jack who still looked very confused.

"Gosh, I didn't expect you to be this big. Jack, you really look like your father too." Hugh patted Jack on the back.

"I finally found you, my grandson."

Jack, who was overwhelmed with confusion, immediately let go of Hugh. "Your grandson? But I don't know you. I-"

"Come with us first, I'll explain everything to you at home." Hugh looked teary-eyed as he looked at Jack.

Jack did feel strange being hugged by Hugh, but he still found it hard to believe everything the man said.

"Come on, let's go home, son!"

The young man who Jack thought was around forty years old bowed respectfully, "Please, Young Master."

Jack was then directed to get into a luxury car that Jack had only ever seen in magazines.

It was a black super-luxury car called the RI-76. Jack knew there were only about ten of that type of car in the entire world.

But, before he could think about it further, he heard Hugh say, "You know, Jack. I've been looking for you for over ten years. I've almost given up hope of ever finding you. But, it's all worth it now. You've been found."

Hugh looked very happy but Jack still doubted it. He was afraid that it was all a figment of his imagination.

Their journey did not take long. Jack and the group had arrived at a large and spacious house that looked like a mansion owned by the rich people of Ocean Hill.

Jack was stunned to see how magnificent the house was.

Jack could barely keep his mouth shut when he entered the inner area of the house. All the furniture was so luxurious and the sofa chairs were covered in gold.

However, all those sights couldn't compare to a large photo displayed on the living room wall.

It was a family photo consisting of a young-looking Hugh and a woman who was probably Hugh's wife and a young woman and a young man hugging a boy.

Jack gawked.

He looked more carefully at the picture of the little boy and was immediately shocked beyond belief. Instantly he turned to Hugh. "That's me. How come?"

Hugh, who was standing behind Jack, smiled happily at Jack. "Of course it is. It's indeed you, Jack. Welcome home again, my grandson."
