The Amazing Jack Morland

Chapter 4

"Sir, I still find it hard to believe." Jack said very honestly.

Hugh immediately smiled gently at Jack. "I understand. It's not easy for you to believe, but it's the truth. You are my grandson, my only grandson, Jack."

Hugh added, "You are the heir to the Morland family business empire."

Heir to the business empire? Him? Someone who was often referred to as a loser? How could that be?

Jack, whose head was already filled with questions, asked, "What exactly happened, sir? If I'm your grandson, why did you let me live alone in the orphanage?"

Of course, that was what confused Jack.

Hugh wasn't surprised by the question and the old man immediately replied, "Jack, you've misunderstood, son. Let me explain first."

More than ten years ago, Jack's father Joss and his mother Claire were taking Jack to a park not far from the Morland home.

The park was not too crowded that day so Jack was left to play alone and unescorted in the centre of the park, while Joss and Claire were discussing Jack's tenth birthday which was soon to be celebrated in a big way.

"However, the unexpected happened. A madman appeared there and he took you away. Your mum and dad tried to chase after him but he managed to get you away by carrying you while running."

Jack frowned when he heard the story. "But, I don't remember anything, sir."

"That's because you were injured, Jack. You fell down and hit your head on the tarmac. It's likely that your memory is somewhat impaired because of that."

Hugh held his breath, looking very heavy about it. "We looked everywhere for you but you were nowhere to be found."

"The madman probably took you to a hiding place that couldn't be seen from the CCTV." Hugh looked even more uncomfortable talking about it.

Jack sighed, "Then, what about my mum and dad? What happened to them, sir?"

"Your mum couldn't bear the grief and eventually fell ill and died. As for your father, he was so sad about losing you and your mum at the same time that he became distracted and ended up in an accident. He couldn't be saved."

Jack didn't understand. How could such a rich man drive his own car?

"Did he drive himself? But why?" Jack asked with a confused expression.

"Yes. At the time of the incident, your father chose to drive alone. You know, he was devastated by what happened to him. I ... couldn't blame his actions for being so reckless."

Jack could feel the sadness in Hugh's eyes and the young man quickly said, "I'm sorry for all the bad things that happened."

Hugh shook his head, "But, now you're back. You know, Jack. I am very happy you've been found."

His face was now beaming, looking bright.

"And you'll be safe here," Hugh added, looking extremely pleased.

The old man even flashed Jack a big smile that radiated so much happiness that Jack could feel the old man's happiness.

Jack looked around the house and asked, "Do you live here alone, sir?"

"Yes. But now that you're here, I won't be lonely anymore."

The answer strangely made Jack's heart warm suddenly. For the first time he felt he wasn't alone.

"Jack, you must be tired. Would you like to take a shower first? Then we'll have dinner and talk some more."

"There are many things I want to talk to you about," Hugh continued.

Jack understood. He felt very dirty himself.

Hugh then ordered, "Gideon, take Young Master to his room."

Seeing Jack looking confused, Hugh explained, "Don't worry! Gideon is one of my confidants. He will serve you as he served me."

The man named Gideon, who was also the one who went to the police station, bowed respectfully to Jack and Jack awkwardly nodded. He was escorted to a very large room.

In fact, the size of the room was many times larger than his dormitory room which could be occupied by four students.

Not only was the room spacious, it was also equipped with a variety of furniture that was again luxurious and very classy interior design.

It was the first time Jack had seen such a large and luxurious room that he thought he might be dreaming.

"Young Master, please wait a moment. The servant will prepare some water for you shortly." Gideon said politely and within seconds, several maids in white and black uniforms entered Jack's room.

Gideon himself double-checked before walking over to Jack who was sitting on his luxurious super soft bed, "Young Master, everything is ready now."

Jack in a bit of a daze quickly walked into the bathroom and closed it from the inside.

Jack was even more stunned at how big the bathroom was. In addition, the bathtub that he was going to use for bathing was so big.

Jack touched the water that had been given fresh flowers and the abun that had been prepared made him tempted to take a bath. The scent was so fresh that he didn't want to delay cleaning up any longer.

"Unbelievable." Jack said as he began to soak in the white bathtub.

Jack had never in his life imagined that he would be able to bathe in such a luxurious bathroom.

In addition to the complete and luxurious toiletries, the towels prepared by the servants were also of good fabric quality. Jack touched the soft white bath towel and started to put it on.

"If the towels are like this, what about clothes? Did they prepare my clothes too?" Jack muttered curiously

However, his curiosity was soon answered when he came out of the bathroom.

Gideon led him to a special place on the right side of his bed.

Jack was left speechless. There were several cupboards full of various luxury items. There were clothes, shoes, watches and many other things that were obviously all of super good quality.

However, Jack asked in astonishment, "Is this all for me?"

"Yes, Young Master. They are all yours."

"But, how is that possible? What size is it?"

Gideon answered again, "It's all customised to your size, Young Master."

"How is that possible?" Jack asked in surprise.

His eyes widened slightly in disbelief.

Gideon explained that Hugh had actually learnt of Jack's whereabouts about a week ago. He had met Jack on the street by accident.

Because Jack's face was so similar to his father, Joss Morland, Hugh immediately became suspicious. He secretly ordered his men to investigate Jack and conduct a DNA test as well to confirm his suspicions.

"The results came out this morning and Mr. Morland immediately ordered us to prepare everything to welcome you, Young Master."

Jack was extremely surprised. How quickly did he prepare everything?

How marvellous! Jack was even more stunned.

However, he was also relieved because it meant that Hugh was not arbitrary in making decisions and claiming that he was his biological grandson.

After dressing up quite nicely, Jack looked in the mirror for a few seconds.

In front of him, there was a very different Jack than usual.

The current Jack looked cleaner. What's more, the t-shirt he wore made him look even better. It was just a shirt, but it was a brand name shirt that strangely fit his body perfectly.

"Please, Young Master. Mr. Morland is waiting for you in the dining room."

Jack was again surprised to see the dining room with so many chairs. So many food and drinks were served, and the food utensils looked extremely luxurious.

"Sit down, Jack!" Hugh smiled happily.

Jack took a seat not far from Hugh.

"Jack, you know I am too old, right?" Hugh began.

"Yes. Is it about your health, Granpa?" Jack asked as he had started using the nickname.

Hugh was so happy that his grandson was beginning to accept his true identity.

Hugh nodded, "My health is getting worse. So, it's time for you to take over at the Morland Group."

Jack knew the last name "Morland" was very famous.

He knew that the Morland family owned a number of businesses everywhere. In fact, according to what he knew, the Morland family was one of the richest families in Ocean Hill.

When Jack was a freshman at Rundall University, his last name was always the subject of ridicule by his classmates. They said that Jack had a much different fate than the Morland family.

However, he still didn't understand what his grandfather meant.

"What does replacing you mean?" Jack asked with a confused expression.

"Taking care of all our family businesses, Jack. How's that? You're ready, right?"

Jack's jaw dropped.
