Chapter 22

"This better be good news, Dr. Chang." Mr. Stark walked into his lab.

"Have I ever called you for bad news?"

Mr. Stark nodded. "What is it, then?"

"The types of blood you gave are unique, Mr. Stark. They contain genetic materials that are not of this world."

"You mean they're aliens?" Mr. Stark asked.

Dr. Chang nodded. "They are."

"What can you do with them, then?"

Dr. Chang smirked. "Watch this experiment."

He opened a small glass space containing a rabbit, and cut his fur with a knife, bringing a shriek out of the rabbit.

"What are you on to?"

"Just watch."

He injected a little bit of the white serum inside the rabbit. "Watch closely."

Mr. Stark furrowed his brows at the rabbit. His eyes slowly widened as the rabbit's wound closed. "Did it just.."

"Heal? Yes, it did." Dr. Chang confirmed.

Mr. Stark gaped. "Wow. And..and the other blood?"

Dr. Chang sighed. "The male DNA is gonna need a lot more than rodents to experiment on."

"What do you mean?"

"The blood is different from that of the female. It's hard to determine what it does, although when I injected its serum into one of the rodents, I noticed it was impenetrable. I couldn't prick, or cut it, but then it died."

"Why did it die?"

"Because the peptide sequence in the blood was too much for the rodent to handle." He turned towards where he left the dead rodent. "Look at what it became."

Mr. Stark walked towards it, and he gaped. "It broke."

Dr. Chang nodded and went to him. "It did. I don't think we can make this work."

Mr. Stark looked at him. "Why so negative? Of course, we can."

Dr. Chang shook his head in disagreement. "If we are to test exactly what the blood is capable of, then we are gonna need..."

"I know what we are gonna need, Dr. Chang. A human for the experiment, and we're gonna get one."

"Do you know what you're saying?"

"A lot of people, doctors, could die just to get their body enhanced. People, per se, locked up in Cambley."

"They're dangerous. They're crazy people. They won't have much to decline."

"Who said I needed a choice?"

Dr. Chang shook his head. "I didn't sign up for this, and besides biogenetics isn't my field."

"You don't have a choice, doctor. You're already in, and you can't get out." He made known the dirty truth. "Think of it, doc. Just imagine it. What we can achieve with these types of blood? People having the ability to heal...."

"It won't last."

"Of course, it shouldn't. If it did, no one will come for more."

"And you have enough?"

Mr. Stark blinked, then scoffed. "One way or another, before it runs out, I'll be able to procure more."

Dr. Chang nodded. "This isn't the kind of thing you do alone, Mr. Stark. We'll need assistance. Deep pockets assistance."

Mr. Stark smirked. "Then leave things to me. I'll get the equipment for the experiments needed."

"I don't know what really got you into this, or what gave you scoop about this, but Bernard Greene is just a farmer, Kara. He's clear of any crime whatsoever, oh except a time he was caught for going against traffic rules."

"Traffic rules. Where?" Kara said looking at her screen.

"In Capital city. Not suspecting." Zoey answered her.

Kara just nodded still in thought about the case.

"His farm though is really successful."

Kara nodded. "Yeah. Some people are lucky, but it doesn't mean data can't be deceiving."

Zoey looked at her. "So, you want to see for yourself?"

Kara nodded again. "I just have a feeling."

"Who gave you the scoop? You've got a friend from BayLane that I don't know about?"

Kara chuckled. "No worries, Zoey. It was just random."

Zoey just nodded. "Ok, if you say...."

Kara's phone ringing cut her off.

Kara looked at the ID with furrowed brows. Unknown.

"I'm guessing that kind of random." Zoey figured.

"That's why I got to answer," Kara told her, and answered.

"Hello, is this Kara Rogers from Daily Research?" She heard a male voice.

"Wow. That's um, specific. Who are you?"

"I wanna speak with you. Can we meet?"

"Now I feel you think I'm stupid. I just asked who you are, and now you want us to meet?" Kara asked in annoyance.

She heard a sigh. "I apologize, then. I thought formalities wouldn't matter. I'm Hunter Stark."

Kara gaped in absolute shock. "What?"

"Yes."

"Ho..how did you get my number?"

"Let's meet, and we'll chat."

"Wh..where?" Kara groaned mentally for her stuttering.

"Haven. It's less suspicious. Two hours from now."

Kara nodded. "Okay." Then she hung up.

"You look like someone who has been hit by difficult news. Who was that?"

Kara darted her eyeballs at her. Confusion written on her face. "Hunter Stark."
