Chapter 23

Kara blinked still trying hard to look away from Hunter but finding it difficult. "Um, you...you look familiar. Why?" She asked in wonder.

"Cause we met yesterday. The other guy with your ex." Hunter informed.

Kara raised her brow in realization. "Oh. You're friends with him."

Hunter shook his head. "Not actually."

"Why am I here, then?"

"I'm guessing why I'm here is why you accepted to meet."

Kara narrowed her eyes at him in thought. 'I don't think he knows why I accepted to meet him. I mean he was a friend of mine. A childhood friend. Why else would I...why else would I...Oh, God! He's a Stark. Damn it!' She pondered in her thoughts.

"What do you want? I mean, honestly, I still don't get you." Kara told him truthfully.

Hunter nodded. "The article you wrote about the vile drug lord. I want to know more about it."

"Neo! Neo!" Cara fell to the ground crying.

"What is it, Cara? Why weren't you careful?"

"I...I just didn't...I didn't see it...."

"Miss. Rogers? Miss Rogers!"

Kara blinked and looked at Hunter. "Uh, Neo?" She blurted out.

Hunter furrowed his brows in shock. "Where the hell did you hear that name?"

Kara blinked again and gulped. "Uh, nowhere. So, what were you saying?"

Hunter's brows were still furrowed at Kara. He was looking confused, and he can't tell why. So many whys in his head just by looking at her.

Kara doesn't know if she should ask, or what answers Neo holds for her.

Can she trust the big guy in front of her?

Hunter sighed. "Um, the article you wrote..."

"Oh, that.." Kara remembered. "Why are you interested?"

"I just feel you must know more than what is written there. I can help you if you tell me."

Kara shook her head. "I don't...it's classified, Mr. Stark."

"You were there, Miss Rogers. I think you know someone else that's involved apart from those written in your article."

"You're trying to get words out of me, Mr. Stark. But then, I think you know who that someone else is. You just want information, and confirmation from me, don't you?" Kara noticed.

"As I said, I can help."

Kara sighed not knowing what to do. He's Philip Stark's son anyways.

"Don't judge a book by its cover, Miss Rogers. I might be a chip out of the old block, but it doesn't mean I didn't fall far from the apple tree."

Idioms, ah? She could feel he was testing her.

"Well don't expect me to give in at once. You'll have to give me time to know if you really fell far from the tree. I don't trust who I know, talk less of who I don't know." Kara told him and stood up. "I think we'll meet again." And she left without taking any sip of her coffee.

Hunter leaned on his seat, looking at her retreating back in amusement. Feisty.

He sighed, wondering why she looked familiar.

Hmm. We'll meet again.

Ellie and Jack pulled out of the lengthy kiss, giving each other a longing gaze "It seems like they didn't realize." Jack stated.

Ellie smiled. "They didn't."

"I told you."

"You're a bad influence, Jack."

Jack shrugged. "And you like it."

Ellie sighed. "Well, I don't know how long I'll be able to pull this sleeping-at-friends thing. My mom is a detective. My big sister is a journalist. They both have the curiosity sickness."

Jack nodded. "I know. You can always come up with something else." Jack said and planted a kiss on her again.

Ellie was still a bit worried. She was scared knowing that the truth always comes out. One word Kara, and her mom live with. Truth always prevails.

"We're deep in it, Ellie. No turning back." Jack told her noticing her worries.

Ellie sighed and nodded. "You're right. Even if they find out, they wouldn't be able to do anything about it. They'll understand that I love you."

Jack nodded. "They will."
