Chapter 27

"What did you get from your mom?" Emily asked curiously.

Kara looked at her. "Did you know Layla was pregnant?"

Emily furrowed her brows in obvious shock and shook her head. "No single idea, and she wasn't showing any symptoms."

Kara sighed. "Well, she was. And whoever killed her knows."

"They took the fetus?" Emily asked in disbelief and with a frown of disgust written on her face.

"Believe me, I was as disgusted as you," Kara told her.

Zoey sighed. "I just...I just can't believe it. Layla just died."

Kara looked at her. "Well, you better. We just need to find who murdered her."

"To use to boost yourself at work, or because she was a friend?" Emily asked.

Kara looked at her. "A friend she was indeed. Somehow, whatever got her dead, she was responsible."

Emily looked away noticing her sarcasm about the friend part. "Well, she was my friend. I need to help."

"Just do your thing, Em. Just don't go kill yourself." Kara retorted in a warning gaze.

"This isn't a joke, Kara!" Emily attacked, glaring at her.

"Exactly. It isn't. So leave the job for those good at it!" Kara retorted in anger. "I'm having another class here, so leave."

Emily clenched her jaw, stood up, and left the lecture hall.

Zoey sighed loudly. "That was hot."

Kara nodded. "I don't know how much I care about Layla, but whoever did that to her had no right to do such. She didn't deserve to die. Not like that."

Zoey nodded in agreement. "You're right."

Nora frowned. "What the hell!"

Officer Ross nodded. "I couldn't believe myself."

"This video is probably botched," Evan concluded seeing as the camera isn't clear itself.

"It's impossible," Nora confirmed still looking at the paused video with disbelief.

"We've found all we could find, although except Michael Richie. I think the guy left town." Officer Ross made known.

"He's a suspect, Ross, and the fact that he escaped says a lot," Evan told him.

Officer Ross nodded. "We've got our eyes set on him. Every precinct is out to get him."

Nora kept looking at the being. What the hell is it? Impossible or not, it looked familiar. It does look familiar.

"Interesting, isn't it?" Hunter walked inside his father's office seeing him focused on the newspaper in his hands.

Mr. Stark looked up at him. "Yeah, so unfortunate."

Hunter nodded. "So how has everything been with Lewis inc. And StarkCorp?"

"Shouldn't you know?"

"I kinda can't help but think there's a secret thing going on that isn't on the record of the company."

Mr. Stark chuckled. "Hunter. Are you ever going to keep reading ill meanings in everything I do? You're being too cynical."

"You can't blame me, dad. It's all around your DNA."

"And you? What do you think?"

"I know I can make a difference. A choice. So tell me, ever since the meeting, why hasn't there been any communication with Lewis Inc.?

"There will be soon, son. There will. When we need them, we'll call."

Hunter looked at him for a while and then nodded knowing he'll get nothing. "What did I expect?" He said and walked out.

Mr. Stark watched as he completely left, and made a call.

"You got something?" He asked the person on the other side of the phone.

"About Kara Rogers, yes. I think your son, and she are acquainted."

Mr. Stark shook his head. "No way."

"I have the evidence, sir."

Mr. Stark nodded. "OK, let's meet."
