CHAPTER 8

THE BEST JOB OFFER

Following Grandma's verdict on trashing out Reuben, all family members were happy.

Other than the family members, there were guests present at the ceremony.

All these guests happened to be big shots in the city with high status quo.

CEOs, managers, business owners and most of all billionaires and multi billionaires.

Each of them had great businesses in the city and beyond.

Grandma had specially invited them to his birthday ceremony in a bid to get them to partner with the family business.

All these people were present as the drama between Grandma, Louisa, Williams, the manager and Reuben unfolded.

Finally, following Grandma's decision, most of them found it as an opportunity to gain favor from the Anderson family and especially Grandma.

Immediately the jubilation about Reuben's trashing from the family died down, one of the high ranking members quickly stood up and began to address Grandma.

“ Mrs Anderson ( referring to Grandma), it is of great pleasure to be invited here as your guest for this beautiful ceremony of yours.

Although the unfortunate drama has happened because of this in law….  Erm … sorry…  former in law of the family ( pointing a finger at Reuben).

I have witnessed your  take on the issue and your judgment and I must say you are one of the very few people who are blessed intellectually on such matters… .. ”

He paused to make his words sink deep.

He had chosen such words to flatter grandma and the entire family.

He cleared his throat and continued his speech

“ I admire your sense of reasoning and strongly agree with your decision to throw this insolent young man out of your noble family.

I therefore pledge allegiance to you and make a promise that this man here would never have a chance to be an employee of my company; not even a common cleaner or a laundry man.

And I am going to make sure he does not come near any of my companies for a job.

Thank you”

The man conclude and retreated to his seat

Grandma smiled and nodded to the man's words

Suddenly, one other man from the guests stood up too.

“ I pledge my allegiance to Mrs Anderson. I'm not going to offer him any job in my firm and I will admonish all my friends to reject any job application from this man here" the man said and smiled

Grandma smiled back.

Slowly but surely, all the guests agreed to not offer any job opportunity to Reuben no matter how small the job is.

Be it a driver, laundry man, a cleaner or even a messenger.

No one was willing to offer him any job in their companies.

They knew that being rejected on even such common jobs, Reuben would have no other option than to leave the city against his will. Or he would probably turn into a beggar by the roadside.

All the guests did this to gain favor from Grandma and the Anderson family as a whole.

In order for them to have their business deals approved and funded or sponsored by the Anderson family.

Or to have a good personal relationship with Mrs Anderson and a great business relationship with the Anderson family.

Grandma on seeing that all the guests present had promised to not offer any job to Reuben, she became excited.

She knew she had succeeded in punishing Reuben and getting rid of him for good.

She smiled devilishly at Reuben who stood there looking into space absentmindedly.

All the members of the Anderson family were happy at  the turn of events. Reuben had been rejected by the whole city.

However one of the guests did not come out to claim what the others had said.

It was a woman.

She sat with a glass of wine in her hand watching what the other guests were doing.

After all the guests had finished speaking, she stood up and  approached Grandma.

Everyone thought she was also going to affirm what the others had said but to their surprise she said the exact opposite.

“ Mrs Anderson, I understand your decision to trash this young man out of your family.

All my colleagues here have sworn to not let him in their companies even for a dollar or for free.

I know you want to punish him but I do think we are all being too had on him… .”

She paused and looked at Grandma.

Grandma frowned the lady's words.

“ How could she say that? How dare she oppose my authority? ” Sh said to herself.

She had wanted to shut this woman up and forbidden her from speaking but she knew she was a multi billionaire and a big shot who could increase the family's wealth and fame by partnering with them so she kept cool

The woman continued speaking

“ Well I would like to give him a chance to prove himself worthy and take this.

Young Man ( I would like to offer you a job as a driver in my company. You would be paid handsomely and in fact two times more than all my current drivers.

Notwithstanding, this offer comes with a condition. Clearly a simple task.

You would have to throw away your dignity and swallow your pride at this moment.

BOW DOWN TO ME AND KISS MY FEET

If you do this now, I will give you the job now and with immediate effect. ”

The woman said and let out a mocking laugh.

Grandma was not cool with her offer, she knew Reuben would just go down and kiss her feet for the job.

She was angry at this woman yet she said nothing.

There was a murmur within the crowd.

Everyone knew what was next. Reuben would just give in to the offer for the job

As simple as that.

“ Consider my offer, young man! It's the best right now. If you reject it, this city would be a living hell for you I tell you.

Come on and kiss my feet for the job”

The woman repeated herself.

This time looking in the direction of Reuben.

All eyes turned to Reuben's direction.

Everybody knew the obvious answer.

Reuben gave out an expressionless face and walked towards the woman.

He drew closer until there was only a few meters between them.

The woman began smiling wickedly

She knew she had won.

NO, I am not accepting this stupid offer of yours.  NEVER!!!!¡
