CHAPTER 92

Asher sat in the car as it drove through the increasingly quiet city streets. The streetlights illuminated his face, which was partly hidden in shadows, while his mind kept working, planning his next steps. There were many things he needed to handle—starting with the threat that still lingered in the air and the growing danger of Waldric. All of these issues needed to be addressed with intelligence and careful planning, like a game of chess where every move had to be calculated. If not… he would end up destroyed, alone.

Kailos, seated in the front seat, occasionally glanced at Asher through the rearview mirror. He could sense the tension hanging in the air, and the encounter with Kaylery Barnnet earlier continued to nag at his mind. After a few moments of contemplation, Kailos finally gathered the courage to speak.

“Sir,” Kailos began cautiously, his voice slightly muffled by the smooth hum of the car’s engine. “Do you know Mr. Barnnet? He seems to know you quite well.”
