Wynn climbed into the car, settling into the plush leather seat, and took in the luxurious interior.
Kraig closed the door and quickly made his way to the driver's seat. The engine purred to life as he started the car.
The air in the car was silent, exuding a great amount of tension.
Wynn kept stealing glances at Kraig. It was obvious to her that something was off about Kraig but she didn't ask him.
She've been doing a lot of thinking, for a man like Kraig who didn't had much to his name to become this luxurious in few days, then he must have hit a jackpot.
Wynn sighed as her thought about Kraig became clouded with another. She looked out the window. Her countenance as though she was lost in her thoughts.
And for some reason, the glimmer in her eyes disappeared.
Kraig noticed this, but he couldn't figure out anything to say.
His throat tightened unable to adjust to the silence.
After a while, he said with great difficulty, "Wynn," His voice filled with a hint of hesitancy, "I hope you don't mind me asking, but I noticed something seemed off with you. Is something bothering you?"
Wynn pursed her lips, and took a deep breath. "I'm good."
Kraig chuckled on the inside upon hearing this. He didn't believe her. Instead of asking her, he put on a subtle music, hoping it would help Wynn stay calm.
When Wynn listened to the music, she felt a bit calm.
She let out a small smile and said, "There's actually something on my mind that has been bothering me. You see, one of my admirers from back home will be entering the same university as us. My parents approve of him, but I don't share the same feelings. I came here to pursue my own dreams and escape the pressure of unwanted relationships. I want to experience freedom and find love on my own terms."
Kraig stepped on the brake for a minute, and then stares dazedly at Wynn.
The Wynn in front of him was unfamiliar. She was usually radiant, bold and outspoken but right now, she looked a bit helpless, and feminine unlike how she always portrays herself to be.
He stared at her unmovingly, while a complex emotions stirred in his heart.
'Truly, I've known Wynn for a while, but still, I don't know anything about her.'
At that moment, the emotions stirring in Kraig's heart were so complicated. He did not even know how to describe them.
Anger started to brew in his dark eyes, and all he wanted to do at this moment was to protect Wynn.
"Can you rely on me?" He said.
Wynn's brows furrowed. Her eyes narrowed further as she thought, 'This is not the Kraig I know.'
But before she could say anything, Kraig interrupted-
"Rely on me, and I promise to protect you. You don't have to worry about a single thing. Can you trust me?"
Wynn awkwardly tucked some strands of her hair behind her ears. She lowered her head slightly and scoffed.
"What are you saying Kraig?"
She gradually glance to the side, and saw Kraig's cold demeanor. He looked dominant and somewhat confident.
Wynn could not tell how Kraig was going to protect her, but the man in front of her wasn't a naive teenager but a man who could protect his territory.
Wynn slightly nods in agreement and a smirk instantly appeared on Kraig's face.
It's been years he've known her, just as long as he've known Jade.
And Wynn, have always been the only sensible person in Jade's squad.
...
A black cedan drove into the school's parking lot. And the students there couldn't hold their surprise.
Jade and Juan , with the other friends had just stepped out if their car when they saw the luxurious car.
"Isn't that the car your dad had tried to purchase, but there was only one produced?" Lily asked Jade.
"It surely is. Do we have a new student?" Jade asked Juan whose mind was filled with different thoughts.
Juan kept praying hard for the new student to not be a guy.
Suddenly, a familiar face steps out of the car, causing everyone to murmur in shock.
Kraig wasn't looking average or like the pauper they knew him to be-everything about him had changed.
Once outside the car, right after like had closed the door and turned around, he met different eyes flickering at him in astonishment.
But the one whose gaze caused his heart to skip a bit was Jade's.
She latched on Juan's arm. Kraig smiled and walked to the other side of the door
He stretched his hand towards the passenger's seat and a pale hand gently touched his.
Jade felt her heart shredding into pieces as different thoughts hovered her mind.
"Wynn?" Lily blurted out.
"Oh wow, now I can tell how he was able to afford it. Wynn must have lend it to him." The others laughed, when they heard Juan but Jade's brows was furrowed.
Kraig's gently wrapped his hand around Wynn's waistline. For sone reason, Jade felt threatened and hated the fact that Wynn was with the man she hated.
Hastily Jade approached Kraig, "What are you doing with Wynn?" She dragged Wynn away from Kraig.
" I don't understand you Jade." Kraig scoffed, seeing the glint of jealousy glimmering in Jade's eyes.
"Whose car is this? You are registered with Uber now?" Jade cussed.
"I'm sure right, I mean if the car doesn't belong to Wynn, it's certainly belongs to Uber." Juan laughed.
"Let go of me!" Wynn pushed Jade and latched into Kraig's arm."Kraig's not a driver, and the car, belongs to him."
"What's wrong Wynn? I know how soft hearted you are, but don't tell me you allowed this loser deceive you." Juan scoffed at Wynn, and then grabbed Jade's arms.
He drew her closer to his broad chest and placed his lips on hers.
"He is doing everything to get back together with you, Jade." Juan laughed.
When Kraig heard Juan's words, he turned to Wynn and held her hand and then said,"Don't we have something to do?" Wynn did not understand what Kraig meant, but she nods her head, "Of course." Jade's throat tightened, unable to digest what was happening. 'Was it the fact that Kraig was dressed elegant or that he was with Wynn that tortured her.' There was no guessing, as Jade was overwhelmed by the fury that was coursing through her veins."Is this your way of exerting revenge Kraig?" Juan asked causing Kraig to stop in his tracks.Swiftly, Kraig turned to look at him. Juan's words didn't affect his countenance. He looked just as dignified, exquisite and daunting.Jade pursed her lips and took a deep breath, unable to believe that Kraig was over her.'Thst can not be!' She thought."I did not know you could go to the extreme just to get your ex back." Juan wrapped his hands around Jade's waist from behind.Kraig was satisfied with the fury in Jade's eyes and he taunted her further
It was a regular day on campus, all the students were in maths class. As much as Kraig listened diligently, he was unable to stay focus. He couldn't help but notice that Wynn was staring at him. Since the incident at the parking lot the previous day, he had been trying his best to ignore her, but he knew that Wynn had many questions, especially about how he had suddenly come into wealth. The classroom fell silent as the teacher left, and it was then that Wynn seized the opportunity to approach Kraig. She leaned in and softly asked, "Kraig, would you like to go for lunch with me?"Kraig hesitated, his eyes avoiding Wynn's, and then replied, "I'm heading to the library, Wynn."Wynn's expression turned somber as she pressed further, "Kraig, I know you've been avoiding me. Can you please tell me what happened to you? You used to be... well, nobody."Kraig stumbled over his words, unable to provide a satisfactory answer, when suddenly, one of Juan's friends, Peter, swaggered over to them
The tension in the headmaster's office escalated to new heights as the headmaster's request for Juan and Griffin to kneel before Kraig was met with defiance. Griffin, with a scowl etched across his face, spoke up firmly, "I won't kneel to any student, and if you insist on siding with Kraig, I will withdraw Juan from this school immediately, and I'll ensure that all our family's donations cease." The Dean, taken aback by Griffin's threat, hesitated for a moment. The prospect of losing the influential family's donations weighed heavily on his mind. With a reluctant nod, he turned to the dean and said, ", perhaps we should reconsider the situation. Maybe Kraig is indeed the one at fault here." The dean, eager to avoid further conflict, quickly apologized to Griffin, his voice shaking slightly as he did. "Mr. Griffin, I apologize for any misunderstanding. We value our longstanding relationship with your family." Griffin's expression softened, satisfied with the dean's submission. He le
After the tumultuous events had settled and everyone had left, the headmaster approached Kraig, a solemn look on his face. He cleared his throat and began, "Kraig, I owe you an apology. I should have handled this situation better, and I'm deeply sorry for the trouble you've endured." Kraig smiled as he said, " It's no problems Headmaster." He wasn't at all friendly with the headmaster, as he knew very well that the headmaster had only sided with him because of his grandfather. The headmaster further asked Kraig to seat and when he asked about Kraig's classes, Kraig only nodded and tells him they were great. But then, the headmaster was a bit reluctantly regarding the words that was hung on the tip of his tongue. When Kraig noticed this, he scoffed, "Is there something else headmaster?" Kraig was dying to leave immediately, he had no idea how to quickly leave the office. "Actually there is." The headmaster smiled at Kraig. "I had no idea you are the son of the DeVille." "App
"Why, Kraig?" Wynn asked, her voice tinged with worry. "Why do you want to stop being friends with me?"Kraig, burdened by the weight of his secret life and the challenges it posed, hesitated for a moment. He knew that Wynn deserved an explanation, but he also wanted to protect her from the complications he was facing. He decided to be brutally honest, hoping that it would discourage her from probing further."I don't want to have any friends," Kraig replied, his tone resolute.Wynn, however, was not one to be deterred easily. Her eyes softened with compassion, and she smiled warmly at Kraig. "Well, you accidentally became my friend, and that's how it's going to be."Kraig couldn't help but be touched by Wynn's unwavering determination to maintain their friendship. Seeing an opportunity to lighten the mood, Wynn suggested, "How about we have lunch at Kipps? My treat."Kraig was momentarily taken aback by the unexpected invitation. But then he accepted,"All right, Wynn," he said, hi
The cafe owner, a stern-looking middle-aged woman, had had enough. She made her way toward Kraig. She was of a big size and her head was bald The woman was displeased, her brows danced in fury as she approached Kraig. Her voice stirred up the restaurant as the cafe owner warned sternly, "If you three keep causing a nuisance in my business I won't hesitate to send you out."The other students in the cafe couldn't help but chuckle at the fact that both Kraig and Jade will end up being thrown out. They found the drama unfolding before them quite amusing. However, the cafe owner wasn't finished. She turned to address the other students, her tone firm and unwavering. "And that goes for all of you too. I won't tolerate disruptions in my cafe."One of the students, clearly displeased with her words stood up and said, "That's not fair!"Jade, still brimming with defiance, turned her attention back to the cafe owner. She spoke with arrogance in her voice, "You wouldn't dare send me out."On h
Kraig, took a deep breath. He quickly walked back into the cafe to rejoin Howie. As he walked in, Kraig was stunned when he noticed Wynn and Howie rather too close to each other.Their hands were locked and Howie's seemed to be attentive as he listened to Wynn. There was a sudden distress that sting Kraig's heart. He felt a rush of jealousy running through his spine. His chest clogged of jealousy so much that he couldn't breath. But he didn't get why he was jealous, it wasn't as if Wynn was his girlfriend.'She isn't!' He convinced himself. As he took a step closer, his eyes fixed on Wynn as her lips widened into a broad smile. Kraig's heart thumped and he hiccuped. He has never noticed the dimples on her cheeks but now, he could see them clearly. She was pretty. His eyes wavered towards Howie. Compared to Kraig, Howie was a blonde with a lot of charm. His straight nose and heart shaped red lips always gives him away. He had brown eyes that makes him even more charming.Kraig loo
The nurses turned to Kraig, startled by his sudden appearance. Madam Zury, who had been frail and quiet, looked up weakly, her eyes glimmered for a moment as she try to recognize the child standing in front of her. "Who are you?" one of the nurses asked, her tone defensive. Ignoring the question, Kraig approached Madam Zury, taking her frail hand in his. "It's me, Kraig. I've come to check on you." Madam Zury's eyes welled up with tears as she whispered, "Kraig, my dear." Kraig turned to the nurses with a stern expression. "This woman cared for me and countless others when we had no one else. She employed you, is this not enough reason to respect her?" The nurses exchanged glances and then looked at Kraig's casual attire—jeans and a plain sleeve. One of them couldn't resist a smirk. "Still struggling, are we?" she asked, her voice tinged with mockery. The other nurse chimed in, her laughter not far behind. "Yeah, and I wonder if he can even afford university." Kraig felt his f
Juan had definitely had enough of bickering with Jade. He didn't get the whole idea surrounding her relationship with Carolene; if she liked girls, then she did. What was the whole deal?He looked around the room for a while, tired of looking at the blonde, tired of seeing her face and hearing her voice. He had come here for the specific reason of trying to recall how his life used to be so uncomplicated with her. And well, he recalled because entering here, he realized that he was small and minuscule in her life and as a result, insignificant and uncomplicated.Juan waved his hand at her, "just forget everything and just come out if you will.""Are you going to keep it a secret?" Jade asked again."If I'm asked, I will tell, if I'm not, then surely won't go spreading shit about you to who doesn't even want to listen," he said. "I think your biggest issue should be getting yourself better and getting out of this hellhole." He looked around again as if he had reached a new height of di
Daniel felt so frustrated; he didn't know what to say or even how to say whatever would come to his head. He wasn't in any way pleased with what he had just heard. And although he had no say in matters like this, his disgust was apparent.Kraig took in a deep breath, "I know you guys obviously hate that you're listening to this, and you feel that I am stupid." He sighed, "maybe I am stupid. I knew she is a criminal, but I still indulged; I still blurred the lines and just delved into this, and I'm coming to you with excuses such as these."Christian shook his head, "you've never been one to hang onto what has already happened. The whole thing has played out already, and instead of biting our fingers and wishing things were different, we would just be wasting our time.""So what do you propose we do?" Jraug inquired, seeing as one of them was not going to stay on the fact that he had been foolish."Well, I think you taking the initiative, regardless of your feelings for her, to inform
Jade paced around the room. Trying to reason with someone as simple-minded as Juan was proved to be anything but simple. She wanted to explain to him that if he did not change his statement or even pretend to be on her side at this moment, he was risking his head. She didn't know the abilities of Carolene, but surely, silencing a man so small, a man so insignificant would not be such a hard thing to do.However, she couldn't. There was a front that she was putting up for the world; Carolene was appearing as a weakling, a stupid blonde who did nothing but get pregnant for the most important man in the business world. But she was more than that. What she was was actually complicated, something that Jade couldn't guess but rather had an idea for. She was more complex than any of those men or women that would say a thing or two about her.And even this man in front of her had no idea who Carolene was, and that was why his request did not drift from a threesome. What the heck was even wron
Daniel took two steps forward. Though such a small number of steps should not possess the ability to completely obliterate the distance between them, but his strides were the guilty party. With just two steps, he now stood right beside Fabio as he peered into the evidence bag to scrutinize clearly the bullet kept within.Fabio was made cognizant of the imaginary distance between them. He felt Daniel's breath on his neck; he could smell the overpowering cologne, the aura of his being. Everything was too much for him; he had no choice but to take a step away from him.Daniel raised an eyebrow, "what is it?"Fabio rubbed his neck, trying to smoothen out the goosebumps that showed up on his skin, trying to rub away his presence away from him."If you want to look at it, here," he tossed it to him and then turned towards the funeral home where Wesley and his mother were still hiding. As Fabio approached, he saw that an older woman was placed on a stretcher and was being pushed towards the
Tabitha's heart raced violently in her chest. The anger that suddenly arose within her obviously had no recipient. If it was any other day, she could probably rant to Carolene, but the woman in front of her, sitting with a wrinkle between her eyebrows and a tired expression mixed with her livid one, surely wasn't in the mood to hear her bullshit. She cleared her throat and tried to work her way around her emotions, to be careful not to let Carolene's rage come upon her and to not let hers find comfort in Carolene.Tabitha bit her bottom lip until she drew blood. It was the best way to keep her lips shut. Her anger was nowhere near what Carolene would do to her if she spoke out of turn."Juan?"Carolene nodded her head, her fingers twirled in her hair as an exasperated sigh left her mouth."I have more reasons to kill him now." Their eyes met, "you were the one who wanted to keep him alive, why?"Tabitha immediately pulled her eyes away, bringing them beneath, showing the authority Car
Kraig took a step forward, the distance between him and Patricia only the space of two fingers. "I don't know why you are being like this," he said coldly and in utter disrespect. "I am the heir, I am the son of your nephew, and I apologize for the patriarchy, but I wasn't the one who made the rules.""And in addition, we have our own company we manage. Uncle had been quite understanding of how unfavorable the system is, and he gave us a company," Wesley said.Kraig raised an eyebrow in surprise, "so you have your own company, then what is your problem with me?""You own everything; you men took everything," she cried out. "I don't like this, I don't want this."Tabitha stood on the side, watching everything. She noted that surely it was because of the woman's age that was making her cranky and not just that; she might have some sort of disorder. When they first met, the woman had never really liked her, nor even tried to hide her disgust and hate. But as she thought, it could be beca
Leah woke up in the small room she had been waking up in for over a week. She could recall how she had gotten out of prison, but no matter how many times she thought about it, it just didn't make sense to her.The woman arrived at the cell with the keys that would free her, and then the two of them just walked out. There were people there, officers everywhere like a pandemic, but she just waltzed through the crowd like it was nothing, like they were all beneath her.And from what Leah had seen with her eyes. They were really beneath her.She jumped off the bed and checked the time on the small black alarm clock resting on the nightstand. It was over three in the afternoon. She was lucky. She had been given her own space where she would just exist. She had no idea what her role here was, but she assumed that it had something to do with the baby in her womb because they were always giving her food for two people and as such, she had added a lot of weight. She was still tall and slim and
Different exotic cars were parked in front of the simple funeral home. There were people coming from all directions with one aim in their hearts: to get to the funeral of Petrus DeVille. Although it was considered a tragic event, there were still reporters lined up across the place just so they could get an overview of what was going on in that small, cheap-looking funeral home.Kraig stood by the door as he welcomed people; some he recognized, but many were a mystery to him. He had a frown on his face, which should match the ceremony, but his frown had not generated from sadness but rather frustration. The last place he wanted to be caught in was standing by the door and addressing the people coming in and out. His grandfather did not deserve it.The noise reporters kept making and the noise from the funeral home joined together, giving Kraig a severe headache. He hated being there; he hated that he had to be the one welcoming people. His eyes went down to his black suit and ran his
The room was hot, the sun that illuminated it was hot. Thw air-conditioning was doing nothing to help with the heat. Wynn wondered if itnwas a heat wave or she was just too overwhelmed by rage. She paced around the room, unabke to settle, unable to sit still and carefully align her thoughts abd how she was feeling. The only thing shebwas thinking about, the onky thing shebhad been thinking about, the only thing she coykd think about were the words that Juan had told her thw day he came over. She coukd akso recall how poorly Camille had spoken to her blaming her for everything tgat happened to Leah. Ever since Leah was arrested, they basucallt havent heard a word about her. The police refused them to have any interaction with her which agonized the family. They had a rught to see her but they were refused.Camille hsf been very angry, that got a lawyer but howverr, their hands had been tied. They knew what was happening with their daughter, whether she was alive or not.And that ange
