Chapter 6

"I'm staying inside." Morel insisted calmly, getting out of his car as he realized the situation would not be resolved immediately.

The officer who had guarded the entrance of the elite neighborhood for many years stared at Morel's face intently, trying hard to remember his face. "I don't recognize you as one of the people who live there." He was sure about that, his hand pointing towards the inside of the housing estate. "I recognize all the house residents in this place, and I've never seen you. "Even if you claim to be a guest, I'm sure it's not true because there's no confirmation from any of the residents that any of their guests are coming."

He didn't want to risk his job, especially even though he was driving a luxury car, but Morel's appearance was very ordinary for someone who could live in that place. He doubted that what Morel said was the truth.

"Yes, I understand. It's only natural that you don't recognize me since I moved in yesterday afternoon." He explained to them.

The officer still looked skeptical, though Morel explained with apparent confidence. He then looked at his friend, who was inside to help resolve the matter. A large man in the same uniform came out of the large booth they used as their post.

The large man with eyebrows that seemed to blend looked at Morel. He took the right side of his friend. He listened to Morel's story in its entirety. Standing face to face with Morel, he gave Morel a disturbing look. "Tell you what, if you are one of the residents in this residence, then take out your access card." He concluded, shortening the interaction between them. "Show us your access card."

Morel remembered that Doris gave him a residential access card yesterday before he went to bed, and he kept it in his wallet. He knew that the access card was essential, and without it, he would not be able to enter. The access card also served as an identification for the residence owners.

Morel nodded flatly. He couldn't believe those people hadn't marked it when yesterday they had welcomed Doris in so graciously. "You guys doubt me a lot." He reached into his pocket to get his wallet out. "I'll show you." He continued to dig through his pockets one by one until he realized that he did not find his wallet in any pocket.

Morel was silent for a moment. He tried to recall what happened and why he didn't find his wallet. Then, his face changed slightly. He remembered that he still had his wallet on the desk in his room and had not picked it up when he went out.

Morel raised his gaze to look at the two men. "I left my access card in my wallet and didn't take it with me," Morel explained it to them with his low voice and unchanging facial expression.

The two men then laughed. They looked at Morel's face dismissively because they thought Morel was lying to them and making excuses. What Morel did was cliché. It was not a new scene they had encountered.

He was fed up with this kind of thing. Dealing with scams day after day in a variety of manners made him very tired.

"More than a hundred people have said the same thing to you over the past month." He sounded resentful, his face reddened with anger and a hardened look on his face.

His friend tapped the officer's baton in his hand with a glare at Morel. "It sucks to spend our time dealing with people like you. You're wasting our time." He pointed at Morel with his cane.

Morel slightly lowered his face to reveal a sharp angle and only showed the expression from his gaze at them. He was calm even though he had to be restrained and explain longer. He didn't want to shut up and listen to their condescending ramblings because it was a bit disgusting.

His eyes looked at each of them and marked them. "I am not like the people you mentioned." He emphasized that. "I have that black card, I explained that I left it behind-"

"Black card?" they said in unison, then looked at Morel fiercely.

The two officers exchanged glances. They looked strange-faced, shaking their heads as if they were arguing about something Morel didn't know clearly because he didn't hear them. They whispered in low voices, and all Morel could see was the rapid movement of their mouths and their confused expressions.

Then they looked at him. "That's impossible."He seemed adamant. "You're lying!" accused one of them with great annoyance.

The other man narrowed his gaze. He looked so cynical and hated it. "Black card, you say? You're lying. Our access card for this place is white with a black line along it." He explained that.

Morel's brow furrowed. There were only two cards Doris had given him, and both were black. He didn't misremember. Almost similar to the black cart he got from Doris, there was no card like they mentioned.

"The card is indeed black." He didn't change his words. He didn't know what made them mistake the color of his card, but she wasn't wrong about the access card he recognized.

But the two men were getting annoyed with him. Morel's attitude was annoying to them. Morel was nothing but arrogant and spoke in a very irritating manner. They were sure that someone like Morel couldn't possibly have that hernia card, the black card he mentioned was made up.

"You're lying!" the man shouted. He then violently snatched the car keys from Morel's hand.

As the key was forcefully taken from his hand, Morel's eyelids opened wide and followed his movements sharply. "What are you doing?" hissed Morel in a low, sharp voice. The man's attitude was already beyond what he could tolerate.

The man acted defiantly, his face stony, puffing out his chest and bringing himself closer to Morel, trying to intimidate and make Morel afraid of him. "You're a fraud. I'll make sure to report you and this." He raised the critical high in front of Morel's face. "I'll hold it so that you don't escape." He said that while smiling sarcastically.

"Damn swindler, how dare he make up lies by saying nonsense. You think just because you're driving a fancy car that we'll believe you, do you?" he leaned in close to stare at Morel with his eyes that needed to go up because Morel was much taller than the man. "In this place, even if you're rich, you can't necessarily own one of the units." He voiced proudly.

Even among the rich, there was still a class of people who were the most wealthy, and of those only a fraction could own a residential unit inside.

"The people there are great people who have fantastic wealth, and you don't look at all like those people." he laughed.

Morel gave him a cold stare. He ignored the man's words and contacted Doris. "Come out, I'll be at the front gate. I left my access card, and these men didn't let me in." He said that as soon as the phone line was connected, his eyes glanced at those people.

"Yes sir, I'll be right there," Doris answered hurriedly, and then their call was cut off immediately by Morel.

They laughed at Morel again, thinking he was putting on a show in front of them. "You think we'll believe you and be scared just because you did that?" They mocked him.

Morel shifted his gaze elsewhere. Seeing them revolted him, and he didn't want to pay attention or be interested in those annoying people.

They continued to babble things that sounded condescending to Morel but ignored their words. He looked inside, and not long after, a car from inside drove by. Then Doris came out hurriedly and looked panicked, approaching Morel.

Before facing Morel, her eyes glanced sharply at the two people, then back at Morel reluctantly. "Master, I'm sorry I came late." He stood near Morel and then pointed politely at Morel's car, inviting Morel to get in. "I apologize for not paying attention to this and telling them about you first."

The two officers looked confused and stunned. He turned to Morel and Doris in turn. "M-Mr. Doris, is this gentleman your young master?" He ventured to ask.

Doris turned his gaze towards them and gave them an exasperated look. "Yeah, right!" Doris' voice sounded heavy and deep. "You should ask which unit he lives in and contact me immediately."

They looked apologetic and frightened, quickly bowing to Morel. "I'm sorry, sir, we had no idea that you were the landlord of this place. We're sorry for our rudeness towards you." They apologized immediately without any prompting.

Morel gave Doris a flat look, then turned his gaze to those who seemed to shrink before him. He grinned frighteningly and made them feel depressed. They hesitantly looked at Morel after raising their heads. They turned their eyes to look at Doris, whom they recognized. "I-I didn't know he was your young master, Mr. Doris." The man looked down deeply, regretting his actions.

Morel looked at him with a low look. He snatched the keys they were holding in the same way and made them gasp in fear.

Morel glared at Doris. "Take care of them." He gave a short order and left the two officers stunned. Then Morel got in his car.

"Alright, sir, I'll take care of it." Doris bowed politely to Morel until the man was out of sight, and then he stared at the two people whose fate he already knew what the end would be.
