Chapter 16

Saanvi

Saanvi got up from the spot she had been sitting down for hours. She had just been thinking about Justice and the man.

    Saanvi had thought about Justice.

She didn't deserve this, she had thought to herself. She didn't deserve to die. And neither did the other officer.

Saanvi had thought about the man. Flashes of Justice being killed by him had flashed in her mind.

She saw his black eyes. His sword on Justice's neck. Him cutting her throat open. Blood spilling out. Justice dropping to the floor.

She remebered when she had ran up to Justice, screaming. She had expected to be killed as well but when she had looked back up, they were all gone.

She had so many questions. But two were the most important.

    Where'd they go?

Why didn't they kill me too?

Saanvi sighed and looked down at Justice's dead body. "I'm so sorry, Justice," Saanvi whispered. A tear drop rolled down her cheek and she didn't bother to wipe it. "You didn't deserve this. It should've been me. Not you... I am so sorry I couldn't save you."

Saanvi started walking. Where? She didn't know. She just had to go somewhere.

She walked through the hallway, still thinking. Suddenly, a thought popped into her head.

The man had said something to her. What was it?

    Just four more days Saanvi.

That was it. The man had said just four more days. What did he mean?

He knew my name too! How did he know my name? And his voice. It sounded demonic. Was he a demon too?

Who was he? Or what was he?

All these thoughts began to give her a headache.

Saanvi leaned against the wall behind her and sighed. She knew she would have to wait to find out what that man would do in four days.

She stopped thinking about what he might do but what he did.

Why did he kill Justice and not me?

What does he want with me?

    What is his motive?

Saanvi looked around and thought, And where are the demons?

Saanvi pushed herself off the wall and continued walking. She still didn’t have a destination.

She turned a corner and expected to see a demon. But there were none.

Where are they? Usually they would chase me while I ran for my life. I’m glad that they’re not here chasing me, but it’s getting kind of weird that I’m not seeing any.

Saanvi continued walking through the mansion. Her stomach rumbled. She hadn’t eaten since they had entered the mansion and she was starving.

She looked into the rooms she passed, hoping to find a kitchen with food so she could satisfy her rumbling stomach.

Saanvi had been walking for thirty minutes and hadn’t found food yet. She was beginning to give up when she opened up the next door.

It was a kitchen! Her frown instantly turned into a smile.

She ran to the fridge and opened it up. She gasped when she saw the fridge filled with food.

There were fresh fruits and vegetables in the bottom drawers. Turkey, ham and lots of other meat was on the left. Burger buns, hot dog buns, and white bread were on the right. Above them were cheese, eggs, yogurt, jelly, and peanut butter.

She looked at the fridge’s doors on her right and left. The right was filled with condiments and the left had drinks. There were sodas and juices. There was SunnyD, Pepsi, Squirt, and Ginger Ale.

Saanvi’s mouth watered as she looked at the food and drinks. She quickly grabbed the turkey, bread, cheese, and condiments.

She threw all the items on the kitchen island and quickly opened the bread’s bag and turkey’s container. She looked around for a plate and found one in one of the cabinets behind her.

Saanvi began to make her turkey sandwich. Once she was done, she took a huge bite. She smiled as she chewed.

It was delicious. She quickly ate it. She was still hungry after she ate it, so she decided to make another one.

Saanvi took her time making this sandwich because she had some food in her stomach. She looked around the kitchen as she made her sandwich.

The kitchen looked similar to the first one. The only difference was that it was a little smaller.

After she finished making the sandwich, she walked over to the table and ate. That’s when she realized something weird.

    Who filled the fridge?

She stopped eating and looked at the ingredients that she left on the island.

The demons surely didn’t. Saanvi laughed at the thought of the demons causally walking into a grocery store and picking up their groceries for the week.

She went back to thinking. But if the didn’t, then you did? The fridge wouldn’t fill itself. They people that came here wouldn’t have filled it either.

    So who?

Suddenly, something interrupted her thoughts. Something had paused at the doorway.

Saanvi quickly looked to see what it was but she already had a guess.

There was a demon standing in the doorway of the kitchen. It was staring and the things she had left on the island. Slowly, it’s eyes trailed over the kitchen to Saanvi, who was still sitting down at the table with her sandwich in her hands.

Looks like my luck has run out.

She sighed and took a bite from her sandwich before placing it down on the plate.

Goodbye delicious food, Saanvi thought sadly.

The demon still hadn’t moved from the door. It was just standing there, watching her.

Saanvi had to be quick with any move she did because once she got up from the chair, the demon would come after her.

She quickly looked at the drawer lined along the counters. She remembered which one held the knives. It was behind the island, next to the fridge.

Saanvi looked back at the demon who was still staring at her.

She slowly pushed her chair back so she had enough room to step out. The demon narrowed its eyes.

Saanvi looked at the drawer then back at the demon.

Suddenly, she jumped out of her chair and sprinted toward the drawer holding the sharp knives.

The demon reacted quickly and ran after Saanvi. By the time it reached her, she already grabbed a knife. She swung it at the demon.

It moved out of the way of the knife and quickly pounced at Saanvi. She twisted herself out of the way just in time and the demon hit the counter instead of her.

Saanvi reached up and stabbed the demon’s left shoulder as it recovered from the collision with the counter. Before it could react to the pain in its arm, she pulled the knife down its arm, making a long gash.

It screeched and quickly pushed Saanvi away from itself. She fell down but quickly got up. She still had the knife in her hand and looked at the demon.

It was clutching part of the long gash on its arm. Black blood dripped down its arm and onto the checkered floor.

After a few seconds, the gash started to heal. It smiled and slowly looked down at Saanvi.

Before it could take in what was happening, Saanvi had run up to it and stabbed it in the same spot she had before. She brought the knife down just like last time, reopening the wound.

It screeched again but Saanvi had stepped back before it could throw her back again.

This time it didn’t check on its wound. It grabbed her throat and slammed her against the wall. Saanvi dropped the knife and struggled against to be let free but its grip on her was too strong.

It smiled at her pathetic attempts to escape its grasp. She looked up at the demon and the fear finally came.

The demon was almost eight feet tall with long horns on its head. Its sharp teeth showed as it smiled.

The demon lifted its hand to show her its four fingers. She saw it bring on of its sharp nails to her cheek. It pushed its nail into her cheek and pulled it down. She winced.

The demon made a long cut on her cheek. She felt her blood on her skin.

Saanvi realized that she wouldn’t make it out of this sitution alive…

The demon had a strong grip on her throat that was tightening with each second. Her knife was on the floor, too far away from her. No one was going to come to save her.

There was no way out of this.

The demon gripped her throat tighter and pushed its sharp nails into her skin. Her hands immediately tried to pull its hand off of her but she was too weak compared to the demon.

Saanvi was barely able to breath. Her vision began to blur from the tears in her eyes.

She was going to die and she knew it. She stopped struggling and accepted it.

Her lungs begged for air that she wasn’t able to give. Her hands fell to her sides.

Suddenly she was dropped. Saanvi fell to the ground and took deep breaths. She coughed loudly.

Saanvi looked up at the demon who towered over her.

It was staring at the wall, not moving. Saanvi slowly got up and stumbled. She leaned against the wall as she looked up at the demon.

    Its eyes were white.

Saanvi froze. She had seen a demons eyes white before but she didn’t understand why they turned that color.

To be honest, she didn’t know anything about the demons. That only thing she did know about them was that they couldn’t die. Which was very frustrating.

Saanvi saw the demon nod and she instinctively took a step back.

It turned around and walked out of the kitchen.

Saanvi stood there with her mouth hanging open.

What just happened? Saanvi thought to herself.

She cautiously walked toward the kitchen door and peeked outside. She turned her head to the left to see if the demon had walked away completely or was waiting for her to step outside with her guard down.

Once she turned her head, she felt a sharp pain in her neck. Saanvi winced and touched her neck with her right hand. She pulled her hand away and looked at it. There was blood on her hand.

Saanvi groaned and walked over to the kitchen sink. She turned on the water and grabbed a towel that was hanging on the kitchen oven behind her.

Saanvi wet the towel and carefully wiped her neck. She winced when it stinged.

Once she cleaned it and saw no more blood coming onto the towel, she ran her fingers on the small holes to see how deep they were.

Saanvi felt the holes and they weren’t very deep.

She sighed and walked back over to her half eaten turkey sandwich.

Saanvi guessed that the demons were leaving her alone for some reason so she continued eating. But her guard wasn’t fully down. She had a knife in her lap and her eyes stayed glued to the door.

I’ll be ready if they come for me… But I really hope they don’t
