Chp 8. Shareholders Meeting

***

The next day.

Maya walked into the Sullivan house and went to Dylan's room. Richard would not be attending the shareholder meeting at the Monarch Office, so he ordered Dylan to go.

Richard believed that Dylan could bring something new to either Monarch or Sullivan or Sully Corp. Each shareholder was invited to bring one person, an assistant who would take notes of the meeting.

Dylan appointed Maya as his assistant to accompany him through the meeting, Maya showed no objection at all. She was happy because Dylan had indirectly started to trust her.

That was why Maya could not let Dylan down. She continued to stride quickly towards the elevator of the house, passing by several servants who seemed to be busy cleaning every corner of the house until the woman was fully inside the elevator.

The pulley began to turn, pulling on the strong rope that was able to pull the elevator all the way up. Maya was alone in the elevator, neatly dressed as if she was ready to attend a meeting as important as the shareholders' meeting.

Reaching the floor, Maya took another quick step until she was standing right in front of Dylan's door. Her right hand extended forward, knocking on the wooden door to inform Dylan of her arrival.

"It's me, Maya," she said.

"Come on in. I'll be done getting ready in a minute," Dylan said.

Maya cleared her throat. She took hold of the doorknob, turning it to the right until the door was fully open. Maya's eyes saw Dylan standing in front of a two-meter mirror, the man still busy putting on his tie.

Not only Dylan, but Maya also saw that the man's room looked so neat, even though it was early in the morning and the servants had not cleaned the room yet. They would only do so when the occupant of the room had left.

"Did you make your bed, too?" she asked, walking over to Dylan.

"That's a must for the occupant of this room. I can't work properly if I leave my room messy," Dylan replied.

Maya was now fully beside Dylan, the man was good at cleaning, but he wasn't good enough to put a tie on his shirt.

"You don't need to do that, let the servants of this house clean up the room," Maya replied, helping Dylan tie the tie to make the man look neat and authoritative.

"I'm not used to the servants' service yet. Maybe for the next few days, I'll get used to it," said Dylan, Maya smiling broadly, noticing that Dylan's heart was clear of arrogance and other things that heirs of wealthy families usually had.

The black tie was already fully attached to the white shirt Dylan was wearing. Now, only the black suit remained unattached to him. Maya pulled out the black suit hanging on the clothes hanger, putting it on Dylan.

"Now you really look like a businessman," Maya said, marveling at Dylan's fit.

Dylan smiled, turning his head to the side and realizing he looked good in a shirt and suit like that. He was ready to take on his new life as Sullivan's heir, while leaving the name Dylan Perry behind forever.

"The shareholders' meeting starts at nine, we'd better get going," Maya said.

The man nodded, letting Maya go first, Dylan following close behind. The two left the Sullivan residence, where Richard and Louis had gone earlier in the morning to attend important meetings at several Sullivan-owned companies outside Sully Corp.

Three cars were parked in front of the Sullivan residence, one sedan and two SUVs. Dylan and Maya got into the sedan between the two SUVs, and drove away at a steady pace leaving the Sullivan compound.

During the ride, Maya explained the flow of the shareholder meeting. She explained that usually the CEO would state his reasons for calling the shareholders, and then the discussion would begin between them.

"I understand. I'll see what Robert's intentions are, and then follow up with the other shareholders," Dylan replied.

"That being said, there are some people who might agree with what Robert explained. So, be clever with your phrasing," said Maya.

Dylan nodded, looking to the side as he waited for the car to arrive at Monarch's office. The car was still traveling on the main road of the city, about ten more minutes until it reached its destination.

There was no conversation after that, not even until the three cars from Sullivan arrived in front of Monarch's office. Two bodyguards got out of the SUV at the back, walking up to the sedan to open the door for Dylan and Maya.

All the employees were frozen in place, as the OB they had always scorned and despised now looked stunning in his black suit. Before going upstairs, Dylan and Maya were required to fill in the attendance list at the company lobby desk.

"Good afternoon, Mr. Dylan," called one of the receptionists, Maya heard this and reprimanded the woman.

"You're not his friend, call him Sullivan!" insisted Maya, narrowing her eyes as she waltzed out of the lobby with Dylan.

Everyone began to make way for Dylan and Maya, even they still couldn't believe that Dylan had become the heir to the Sullivan Family. Now, the position of those who had insulted Dylan was truly embarrassing.

The two arrived in the elevator and were immediately lifted up to the top floor of the building. Maya noticed that Dylan looked nervous this time, so she took the initiative to grasp Dylan's right hand.

"I'm sorry if I'm being impolite, but this is to calm you down so you don't get nervous," Maya said.

Dylan was taken aback, with both eyes fixed on his hand that Maya was still holding. Slowly the anxiety in Dylan's heart disappeared, replaced with a sense of optimism that he would go through this meeting well.

The elevator doors opened, Dylan walked in first, followed by Maya behind him. Dylan turned his head to the right and left, finding the employees who worked in that place were stopping their work, focused on Dylan who came in a neat suit, different from before.

Dylan kept his eyes focused forward, staring at the door of the meeting room that Robert used to use. The door to the room opened, revealing Dylan who had arrived last among the other shareholders.

"Welcome, Mr. Sullivan," Robert said, standing up as he told Dylan to sit down.

Not only Robert, but he also noticed the presence of Melissa and Sean, who were part of the Hudson family. By now, all the representatives of the shareholder families had gathered.

"Alright. We will start the shareholder meeting for this month. I hope you can listen well."
