Chapter 04

Adam was furious. He owed so much to Kingsley Woods, a man of good heart and principle. And from what he could tell, Alistair was no different. So how could Cathy act as if the boy was no great thing? He was the best!

“Now, what does that have to do with anything? Huh? Ally is marrying Lisa and that’s what’s important!” Adam exhaled, trying to control himself. He looked at Lisa. “What are you waiting for, girl? You’re going with Ally to register your wedding now!”

Lisa didn't move and looked at Alistair with an expression that, if it could kill, the blond would be lying on the floor, lifeless.

Although Lisa didn't like the idea of having to marry a man who wasn't the one she had chosen for herself, besides, as her mother put it, being a poor village boy, she wouldn't go against her father, after all, she wouldn't be able to run away from marriage for long.

She walked past Alistair without even looking at him again, almost bumping into the blonde's shoulder.

“Hurry up, what are you waiting for, dummy?” she asked, and Alistair thought with disgust that he had gotten out of a bad engagement only to marry a woman who despised him even more. “Hell, he’s not only poor, but also an idiot!”

'What bad luck I got here!' he exclaimed internally and followed her.

The two got into the family car and didn't exchange a single word, each lost in their own thoughts. Lisa glanced sideways at Alistair and snorted.

'He's very handsome, but damn, he's a pauper!' she whined, imagining that soon, she would be married to a man with no possessions. 'I can't let myself fall for his charms... I need to find a way to make this man give up on being my husband. And soon!'

The car stopped in front of the Civil Registry and the two got out of the vehicle, entering the building and, in a few minutes, they got out with their marriage certificates.

“Let me make one thing clear, Mr. Woods,” Lisa began before they got into the car. Alistair stopped to listen, and Lisa turned to face him. “Just because we have our names on a piece of paper doesn’t mean we’re equal. You and I come from very different classes. And… this marriage? Well, it’s just a temporary arrangement, just to satisfy my father’s will. In a few months, we’re going to get a divorce!”

Alistair nodded slightly, tucking the marriage certificate into his backpack.

“Indeed, we are of very different classes, Mrs. Woods.”

That made Lisa let out a growl of anger and Alistair laughed at it. Lisa turned around and then got into the car, telling the driver to speed up, leaving Alistair behind. He still heard a few complaints like 'stupid' and 'imbecile'. Alistair put a hand in his pants pocket and watched as the car disappeared from view down the avenue.

Tired, he took his hand out of his pocket and looked at the keys Jessica had given him. They were for Star Hill Villa No. 01, the most luxurious gated community in all of Lothan City, Star Community.

The trip didn't take long, as the traffic was light. The problem was that as soon as he got out of the car, he saw someone he didn't expect to see so soon: Louise Weisz. The woman frowned as soon as she laid eyes on him and approached with her hands on her hips.

“What the hell are you doing here?” She asked, clearly irritated. “Are you following me, by any chance? Is that what it's about? We’re over!”

Alistair finally let out an annoyed laugh, as he was reaching the limit of his patience.

“Spare me, I live here,” he replied without any courtesy.

“You, living here?” Louise snorted and Alistair turned to the door to open it. “Didn’t you have a better excuse to come after me? As if a poor guy like you could ever afford to live here!”

Alistair turned to Louise, his face completely cold and a mocking smile on his lips.

“For your information, Miss Weisz, I am married to Lisa of the Anderson family. I have no reason to come after you!”

Louise pressed her lips together in annoyance. Married? They had barely broken off their engagement and Alistair Woods was already married?

“Then enjoy your life with this… Lisa Anderson and never look for me again!”

“Woods,” Alistair said, and Louise, who had already turned away, spun on her heel to face him. “Lisa Woods. She’s not an Anderson anymore. She’s a Woods. My wife.”

Louise let out a scream of rage and left.

“What a presumptuous woman!” Alistair said, before shaking his head and opening the door to his new house.
