Chapter 05

Alistair looked around and whistled. He had no idea Jessica was rich enough to buy a villa in that area. Walking to the garage, he inspected the cars and laughed. The woman had at least ten cars there, each one more valuable than the last, except for one that had been left out.

Before Alistair could think about it any further, his phone rang. Looking at the screen, he saw that it was Adam and answered the call.

“Ally? Son, I… I’m sorry! Lisa can have a terrible temper sometimes!” Adam began to speak and Alistair just looked down wearily. “I was completely embarrassed when I saw her arrive alone. The driver told me she had left you on the street, all by yourself right after getting married to you!.”

“It's ok, Mr. Anderson…”

“No, it’s not okay!” Adam sighed. “Why don’t you come eat with us, huh? Today is your first day as a married couple, so let’s celebrate, yeah?”

Alistair wanted to say that there was no reason to celebrate, only to mourn. However, he remembered that these were the Master's orders, and as painful as it was, if Master Alberich ordered him to do something, it was because he had a good reason behind it.

“Okay. I’ll be there soon,” and with that, he hung up the phone. Alistair sighed deeply. “Why couldn’t Master have found me a friendlier woman?”

And he couldn't help but think that if Adam thought so highly of him because of what Kingsley Woods had done for him, making Alistair marry Lise was no reward, but a punishment.

Looking at the worthless car again, Alistair decides that this was the vehicle he would use to visit the Andersons, after all, he had no reason to show either Cathy or Lisa that he had fancy cars. If they were going to like him, it would be for him, not for what he had.

Upon arriving at the Anderson residence, Alistair saw that Cathy had cooked braised beef, using the wine he had brought for cooking.

'What a waste!' he thought, devastated to see good wine being used in such a ridiculous way.

Cathy sighed and looked at the roast meat, tilting her head from side to side in dissatisfaction. As soon as she laid eyes on Alistair, her irritation only grew.

“This meat has a strange sauce. Look, look! It’s so pale!” She complained and threw the dishcloth on the table. “This is all the fault of that fake wine this boy gave us!”

“Then we have to throw this away!” Lisa said, and glared at Alistair. “Uncle Morris is coming to dinner with us, and we can’t serve this! What if he gets a stomachache after eating spoiled food?”

She turned her body, as if making it clear that she didn't want Alistair there.

'That makes two of us, wife,' he thought bitterly.

“Stop talking nonsense!” Adam shouted, but as he looked at the meat, he couldn’t help but wonder if Alistair had in fact gotten tricked and ended up giving them counterfeit wine. The sauce was more than pale, which was not normal!

Cathy, seeing her husband's expression as he looked at the braised beef, saw the perfect opportunity to throw it away, however, there was no time, as Morris had just entered the dining room.

With a more than embarrassed expression, Cathy smiled at the man, already apologizing before she even spoke.

“Hello, family!” Morris said, smiling.

“Morris, dear, I’m sorry,” Cathy began, and the man’s smile faded.

“What’s wrong, Cathy?”

She scratched her head.

“It’s just… the wine we used to cook the meat… I think it’s gone bad.”

Morris took a deep breath and sniffed the air, smelling the wine. He smiled again and looked at the table, sitting down and picking up a fork. Cathy and Lisa raised their hands as if to stop the man, but it was too late, because he took a forkful and put it in his mouth.

He frowned and looked at the meat again.

“But… why would someone use this wine to make braised beef? What a waste!” He said and Cathy looked at him blankly. “This is one of the finest wines in the world! It wasn’t made for this kind of use!”
