Chapter 5
Author: Oldwell
This was the Bowen family’s butler, Mr. Anderson! He was the one who always received Abel in Elias Bowen’s house.

“Mr. Anderson!” Abel ran up to greet him. “What brings you here?”

“Afternoon, Mr. Anderson!”

“Good day, sir.”

Several other people piped up.

The butler didn’t spare them a glance. Instead, he walked up to Remus and said respectfully, “I apologize for all this hostility. I’ll make sure everything is settled accordingly here.”

He then turned to Kylie, barking, “How dare you insult and threaten Mr. Bowen’s esteemed guest?”

Kylie flinched, staring unseeingly at the ground in shock.

Beside her, the men looked around, confused. Elias Bowen’s guest? Wasn’t Remus an escaped criminal?

“Apologize to Mr. Cosby right now, or you’ll regret it!” the butler barked again.

Kylie’s face had paled drastically. In Neptuna, the Cox family was no match for the Bowen family. Their butler alone could sentence her to death, and no one could raise a finger in protest!

Kyle was at a loss for words and still in shock. She was about to sink to her knees.

“It’s alright,” Remus piped up. He wasn’t one for humiliating women. Plus, Kylie had promised him three favors. He could let this go.

He turned to Mr. Anderson. “What did you need me for?”

The old man nodded respectfully. “Mr. Bowen wishes to see you at his villa.”

Remus gave it some thought. He wouldn’t be able to go anywhere else today, so he might as well meet this guy again. “Alright.”

They turned to leave, missing out on the show of anger and frustration that played out later in the restaurant.

“What happened, Ms. Cox? You said he was a criminal, so why did Mr. Anderson just say he was a Bowen family guest?!”

“If something happens to us because of this, I’ll drag you down with me!”

“Did you take us for fucking idiots?!”

Kylie squealed as everyone turned on her. She was still in a daze, unable to understand why Remus had shown up there.

Abel suddenly said, “Calm down, friends.”

With a smile, he turned to Kylie. “I didn’t know you were acquaintanced with Mr. Cosby, Ms. Cox. Your company will get the contract for this project and all future projects. However, I have one condition you must fulfill.

“You must appoint Mr. Cosby as the middleman.”

“Miranda, this is Remus Cosby, the man who healed you. It just so happens that you two are engaged, too!” Elias said to his daughter after explaining all that had happened.

Elias’ father had told him that this young man had great power and could bring the family centuries of peace and prosperity. He hadn’t believed it at first, but after seeing him save his beloved daughter, he no longer had any doubt.

“No, he’s not!” Miranda cried. “I said I’d never marry anyone, and I meant it.”

She even glared at Remus, but Remus wasn’t one to back down.

“Don’t worry. I don’t plan on marrying you either.”

Why were all the women in his life like this?

“Why did you ask me to come here?” Remus turned to Elias.

“Uh…”

Elias was at a loss for words. Yes, his daughter had always been cold and on the defensive side, but why was Remus like this too? Didn’t he have some sense of respect for them?

Brianne quickly stepped in to diffuse the tension. “Can’t we invite you over just to chat, Remy? You and Miranda are engaged, which means we’re family now.

“Oh, by the way, did your parents come with you?”

Remus saw how considerate and respectful she was being, so he treated her the same way. “I grew up as an orphan, my only caretaker being my master who has yet to return from his three years of travels. That’s why it’s only me right now.”

Brianne frowned just the slightest bit. Orphan? That meant he wasn’t an heir or part of some rich, influential family. “How did you spend these three years, then? Why didn’t you come back?”

Remus grew grumpy at that too. “He made me wait for him in prison.”

Prison?

No one good came out of prison! And he was the one engaged to their beloved daughter?

“Miranda, have you talked to Ben yet? He stayed by your side during all the months you were sick.” Brianne turned to her daughter.

Miranda simply nodded in assent and said, “I’m going back to my room. I’m tired.” Then, she went upstairs.

Brianne then said to Elias, “Dear, why don’t you go to the study to prepare for the company’s business plans? I’m sure you need all the preparation you can get since it’s for Ms. Lotus’ prospective investment.”

Elias picked up on his wife’s intentions to be the bad cop and kick Remus out of their lives. Elias had thought he’d be a prospective match for her daughter, but hearing his background had completely changed his mind.

His father had probably gotten things mixed up.

Remus could easily understand what was happening, but all he could think about was how coincidental this all was. Ms. Lotus? Jean Lotus?

“Mrs. Bowen, is this Ms. Lotus that you’re talking about Jean Lotus from the Lotus family in Centurio?”

Brianne’s lips curled up in a slight sneer. “Yes, but don’t you worry your head about it. And please, don’t call me Mrs. Bowen. We’re not that close.”

Remus frowned. Women were really fickle of mind, no matter their age.

With a smack, Brianne placed a card on the coffee table. “There’s at least a million dollars in there. Take it and leave. Don’t show up or be associated with my family from today onward, and never mention the engagement with my daughter ever again. Understood?”

She couldn’t let cheap bums like him ruin her family!

Anger bubbled up in Remus’ chest, but he quickly calmed down upon remembering one of his master’s teachings: never lower yourself to the level of idiots.

“It’s you guys that I don’t want to be associated with. Also, I don’t blame you for being poor, but being poor and still trying to act all high and mighty? You need to get that checked. Keep the money. Think of it as a gift from me.”

He then turned to leave the house. But not more than a minute after he did, it started to rain. It was the mark of a thunderstorm.

Brianne was still fuming. How dare that runaway criminal call her poor? She was the matriarch of Neptuna’s most influential family! If that man weren’t a convict, she would’ve slapped him in the face for saying such things!

“You have ten minutes to find a way to leave!” she ordered. “Don’t let me find you here later!”

Remus murmured in assent and pulled out his phone to call a friend.

Elias walked down the stairs, having heard everything that had happened. He had thought to step in if Brianne went too far. They couldn’t get too involved with hooligans, especially with their status. “Are you leaving, Remy? I can have Anderson drive you.”

“No,” Brianne huffed. “He was calling for a ride. Didn’t you see?”

Elias didn’t respond to that. Sure, everyone saw him as Neptuna’s richest man, but no one knew that his wife was the boss at home. He shot his wife an unhappy look. Why did she have to go and get upset over some kid from the streets?

Brianne crossed her arms and sneered. “That friend of yours must be from prison, yeah? I bet they’re crazy rich, seeing as one million dollars was nothing to you.”

A criminal with a three-year prison record wouldn’t have any friends comparable to them.

Just then, Mr. Anderson walked in to announce, “Sir, Madam, the Dragon Head is outside right now.”

The Dragon Head?Elias and Brianne glanced at each other in shock upon hearing that name. Of course, they knew who he was and how influential he was in the city’s underground dealings. But what was he doing here of all places?“Welcome him inside right now!” Elias ordered. Yes, he was the richest man in the city, but he still couldn’t risk offending Anthony Mark, given his position.“Just in time. Maybe your friend knows the Dragon Head, hm?” Brianne mocked Remus once more. Most of the prisoners from Neptuna were disciples of the Dragon Head’s guild, after all. Remus’ friends might even turn tail upon seeing his boss!“Heh,” was Remus’ response. It pissed Brianne off to no end. Even Elias ground his teeth for a bit after hearing that. They were going to enjoy seeing the Dragon Head put him in his place.Just then, Mr. Anderson led Anthony in. Elias immediately greeted him with a smile. “Lady Luck has graced us with your presence, Mr. Dragon Head.”“Welcome, sir,” Brianne greeted

Wasn’t this the Working Emperor’s villa?Could she…could she be that sugar baby the man had kept around?Remus thought it might be possible. She seemed like one of those mistresses left alone without their lover.“You could live here too,” she purred, rubbing Remus’ chest. “Why don’t you go upstairs first, hm? I’ll be right there, and then we can enjoy ourselves properly.”This was the first time a woman had touched Remus. His heart felt like it might explode. He silently cursed the Working Emperor for letting this happen. He peeled away from her touch and dashed upstairs, heading right into the shower.“Hmm…” The woman laughed, then called out, “Remember to wash yourself clean and wait for me in bed!”In the next second, her expression fell, and she used her phone to order several guards to come wait in the living room. They were all dressed in tunics lined with gold.“Miss!” they greeted politely, standing in line. She had already put on modest clothes by this time. “A man s

Remus’ body began to react illogically. He leapt away from her, clasping the quilt tightly around his torso. “Stay back!”Curse that old man, Tyson!Jean burst into laughter at his silliness. “Haha, you’re adorable! Lucky for you, I don’t bite. But hey, why don’t you join me for an event this evening? You can’t refuse. Think of it as repayment for beating up my guards.” Remus agreed. He didn’t have any plans in Neptuna tonight. “So can you leave now?”“Nope,” Jean teased. “I still want to sleep with you. Come over here and let me feel you…”Remus swiftly escaped from her grasp and left the room.He later went to Neptunus Equestrian Race Tracks. (Might as well. He didn’t want to risk losing his virginity back at Imperial Villa, and he had nowhere else to go.)“Did you hear that Ms. Lotus is hosting a press conference tonight?”“I heard she had come to Neptuna weeks ago to secretly observe the market and potential partners here. Everyone glanced at each other in confusion.Honor their losing promises? Was Remus admitting defeat?Miranda thought Remus was going that route too, given he probably didn’t know how to ride a horse. He’d stayed for two million but left yesterday when he was offered one million. So he was greedy!Just then…“Heee-!” With a loud neigh, Ben’s prize horse jumped back on its hind legs, then began bucking, as if in distress. The crowd stepped back in shock. What was happening to the horse?Ben had nearly fallen off with the first buck. He gaped in shock at the horse he had tamed three years ago.He clasped onto the reins and snapped his whip, yelling, “Whoa, easy, easy! I still need to win that race! Stop it!”But the horse only bucked fiercer the more Ben whipped it.Remus smirked. He had learned to ride tigers and bears in the forests while training under his master’s tutelage. Horses were a piece of cake.He snapped his fingers once again. This time the horse bucked with all f

Elias knew he would only get answers by mentioning the marriage agreement.Sure enough, Anthony’s attitude did a 180-degree turn. No wonder Remus didn’t have him do anything to the Bowen family yesterday. Anthony would’ve gotten into big trouble if he had.“I see!” He chuckled. “To be frank with you, Eli, I’m not sure about Mr. Cosby’s identity either. A friend of mine asked me to help him while he’s in town. That's all.”He couldn’t reveal it was his Temple Lord who gave the order.Friend? Elias hummed. This friend must be powerful; otherwise, the Dragon Head himself wouldn’t be so subservient to Remus.“Did this friend of yours stay in prison for some time?”That must be the only way Remus had come to know this mystery person.“Yes. They’re currently still in prison.”Elias nodded to himself in understanding. Beside him, Brianne scoffed. “See? I told you Remus Cosby was just a lackey. He might just be the guy who scrubbed that other guy’s toilet for three years in prison!”E

Bald Richard suspected that he was hiding something. Heck, he even dared to call the Dragon Head by name. “You know the Dragon Head?” Bald Richard asked tentatively.“Ask him that yourself,” Remus retorted.Everyone realized how much of a big shot he was. No wonder he didn’t keep quiet or grovel before Bald Richard. Even the guy that was going to beat Remus up started to fear for his own safety.Kylie frowned. Did Remus really know the Dragon Head?Just then, Bald Richard’s phone call went through. His demeanor immediately turned sheepish as he asked, “Dragon Head, sir, are you busy right now?”“Get to the point!” Anthony snapped. He was angry because he had just been informed of Remus Cosby’s true identity. Apparently, he wasn’t a highly-respected person; he was just some guy who had scrubbed the Temple Lord’s toilet!Yes, h

The name sounded familiar to the guard. He glanced at him and told him to wait before turning toward the suite to report.“Watch the cavalry sent across the vast lands. He frowned when the guard entered. “What’s the matter?”Anthony hated people walking around while he was singing. The guard bent down and whispered, “Mr. Mark, someone named Remus Cosby is looking for you.”Remus Cosby? Him again?Anthony’s expression changed as he thought, “Is this how Bald Richard takes care of things? I ordered him to cripple Remus, yet he’s at my door, looking for me?”“Tell him to leave. However, if he did it and Remus reported it to the Temple Lord, it would attract unnecessary trouble.“Understood.” The guard turned and saw

They stared at the door, ready to attack at any time.Remus walked out calmly. When he saw the scene in the corridor, he smiled, unsurprised. Hearing the footsteps, he knew there would be a group. This must be a small group, and he guessed there would be more downstairs. However, no matter how many ordinary people there were, they meant nothing to Remus. He asked casually, “Single combat? Or a group fight?”Seeing Remus, everyone was shocked. Who was this guy? No one knew him, nor had they seen him. Everyone thought that a powerful fighter had returned. Instead, a young man appeared. Even though it emitted a haze and its body was concealed in the darkness, with no way of knowing its size, something was off about its voice and the way it spoke. If land could nurture beasts, then it was even more likely for the ocean to do the same. But what did it mean when it said "at last"?Remus asked in surprise, "Do you know me?"The scarlet eyes looked down from above with indifference. Remus slowly floated up.Ribolt was so frightened that it released a stream of green liquid from its underside. They never expected things to turn out like this. The octopus was one of the rules of the ocean, especially in this area spanning several dozen nautical miles, where no other creature dared to approach. It completely dominated this territory.Yet, all its eight tentacles were cut off with one strike. Didn't this mean it was basically rendered useless in one move? The octopus finally came to terms with reality and glared at Remus intently. It sputtered, wanting to yell at him, but was unable to find the words to continue after a long pause."What are you sputtering about, you incredibly ugly thing?"The one who spoke was the eel. Silently, Remus gave it the name Ribolt.Ribolt raised its head and said, "You should consider your status before daring to attack this human. It resembled a kneeling human. It hastily said, "Your Majesty, I swear by the sun and the moon and all that's holy, I brought him here with no ill intent."While searching under the sea, I came across him and noticed he had a very unique quality—he can emit spiritual energy. Animals had a strong territorial instinct, and this was especially true for beasts. Voryn, being a beast lord, undoubtedly had its own territory. Even if it lived within a domain, the area around that domain should still be feared by other beasts."Off-limits?" the creature said thoughtfully. These lines eventually converged into one spot and shot straight toward Remus. It was electricity. This creature was part electric eel, and its large body could generate electricity. If in the air, its electrical discharges could rival lightning.
