“ This young man is the reason you are seeing me alive right now, “ The old man said grabbing Jamie’s shoulder and Jamie took a respectful bow, At this point Jamie didn’t see the need to go into details, All he wanted right now was a bottle of beer, He wanted to relax his nerves.

“ What do you mean pops ?” She asked in shock.

Jamie felt like he needed to go, He didn’t even know why he was here, He had more important stuff to pay attention to and not this.

“ I’m really glad I could be of help but right own, I need to leave, “ Jamie said and the old man looked at him with eyes full of disappointment.

“Oh! At least let’s talk over dinner “ He implied and Jamie didn’t accept, These people were total strangers, He understood he had just saved the old man but he wasn’t in support of having a meal with them.

“ I’m sorry but I don’t think that will be possible, I suggest you increase his security system, He needs more security … You can also check the security cameras outside you can get a clear view of the Bastards that attacked him, “ Jamie said making his cue to leave.

“Attack? Someone tried to attack you pops ?” The lady gasped.

“ Yes! But he came right away and with the blink of an eye, He fought them all by himself “ The old man said with so much excitement in his eyes and voice.

“ Wow! Thank you so much, Please I insist join us for tea at least so we can appreciate you for your kind gesture, I’m Flora“ She extended her hands for a handshake

“ There is no need for that, I had the skills to help him and I made use of it … There is no need for appreciation, Just make sure he gets enough security just like I said and I trust that he will be fine, “ Jamie said turning to leave and she immediately opened her purse, She brought out an office card and rushed to meet Jamie.

“ Here … This is my card, Let’s meet and talk …My grandpa isn’t someone who likes to be indebted to someone we can talk about paying you for what you have done at the table … Please we are grateful and we just want to show appreciation “ She pleaded.

“ My granddaughter is right, Please take the card and meet with us “

“ If you insist” Jamie nodded after collecting the card he didn’t even bother to look at it, He shoved it inside his pocket and turned to leave again.

“ Uhmmm please lastly, Allow one of our drivers to take you home please” The lady added and Jamie smiled.

“ There will be no need for that, I’m heading to somewhere really close by and I need to walk there, At least to feel relaxed “ Jamie added, His mind right now was not at rest and he felt as though the walk would be a great way to relax.

“ Okay … Please make time and see us or better still can my granddaughter get your digits so she can invite you “

“ Yes… That’s a great idea pops” It was as though they already knew that Jamie wasn’t going to reach out to them anymore.

Jamie wrote his number on the lady’s phone and turned to leave, As he walked out he felt the eyes on him but he kept moving. He never knew people could be so generous and appreciative. Although this was not related to his issues with Leah, He found a way to relate it somehow, Jamie saw that even for the little thing he did, These people could appreciate him even with their riches and status unlike his ex-wife who dumped him immediately she got rich even after everything he did for her.

“ I guess money doesn’t determine some people’s lifestyle “ He sighed, He looked at the mansion again and he turned to the left and Leah’s mansion stood there, He sighed and made his way out of the estate.

Jamie made a quick phone call to his best friend.

“ Jamie …. What’s up? Bro, you look pale “ Roxy walked inside the bar and saw Jamie, immediately he walked to where he was, He spoke to him.

“ Roxy … Sit down and grab a beer “ Jamie yawned.

Roxy called the bartender and he made his order, Jamie called him to vent his anger.

“ What were you saying on the phone? I heard something happened with Leah …” Roxy gulped down his drink and turned to speak with Jamie.

“ She served me divorce papers “ Jamie sighed.

“ What! Divorce papers, What are you saying, man ?” Roxy was taken aback, He didn’t believe what he just heard.

“ Leah requested for a divorce and I signed the papers “ Jamie kept turning himself more beer as he spoke.

“ Why? That’s unlike Leah… Did you guys fight?” Roxy asked and Jamie clenched his fist.

“ Roxy … I and Leah have been married for 10 years, Of course, we had a few misunderstandings but it was never something we didn’t sit down to communicate and resolve “

“ So what was the reason for the sudden divorce?” Roxy asked.

Jamie looked at him with eyes that were filled with disappointment and he blurted.

“ I am no longer in her class man, She’s now rich and wealthy … She claims that I am no longer someone that matches her status” Jamie was trying his best not to break them into tears but you could hear in his voice that he was fighting the urge to burst in tears.

“ Oh my goodness! She said that ?”

“ Man … I’m no longer surprised at her reactions, All I want right now is my son, Leah won’t be able to take care of Austin on her own “

“ Jamie, So you are going to go on with the divorce?”

“ I already signed the papers, All I want right

“ Jamie, I warned you when you went about selling off your properties just to raise money for her and her family, I told you to think about the future and you did say your future was with her, Now look at it … After she made it she paid you back with a divorce “

“ Rox, Life happened and I won’t continue stressing myself thinking about it, What I care about right now is how to gain custody of my son”

“ You think Leah is going to let you, Jamie this

might be the time to get your life together, Go back to the military and continue your life in Seattle “ Roxy advised Jamie but he didn’t like the idea.

“ I’m not going back to the Army, I will think about a way to get good incomes for my son “ Jamie took the last shot and he stood up to go, Although he had high alcohol tolerance, Jamie was drunk. Roxy drove him home and after putting him in bed, He went back home and dozed off.

Jamie's alarm blared and woke him up, He rubbed his eyes with his palm, Yesterday still felt like a dream to him, He tried calling out his son’s name and it dawned on him that his son was no longer there.

“ Leah,You have done enough…” Jamie picked up his phone and dialed a number.

“ Jamie! What’s sup … You called me, That’s unlike you so what’s the occasion “

“ I see what you did for my ex-wife was successful “ Jamie stated.

“ Did you just say Ex-wife? “He asked in shock.

“ Yes… My wife filed for divorce after she got the shares “ Jamie announced, The news came as a shock to the caller, He gasped so loud that Jamie knew how surprised he was even though he couldn’t see his face.

“ So … Are you going to come back to the army? You dropped everything to be with her and now that she wants to divorce… Don’t you think it’s high time you come back “ The caller said.

“ Just keep running things smoothly for me, Ohhh … remove her name from the registry we are no longer married, “ Jamie said and hung up.

He grabbed his coat and his car key, and he was heading to Leah’s house to get his son, Jamie drove to her house and stopped at the front of the house, He looked opposite, It was the mansion of the man he had saved the other day, He sighed and as he stepped in he heard a voice from behind.

“ Jamie! I did say you shouldn’t come to my house again right ?” Leah yelled from behind and Jamie turned to respond, His eyes met with

Leah and two other people stood beside her, It was the granddaughter of the old man he rescued, The other person held Leah’s hands and he immediately realized it was her new man.

“ I see he is my replacement “ Jamie scoffed.

“ Yes, Jamie … He is better than you and everything you can ever become, “ Leah said and Flora scoffed.

“ Flora … What is it? Do you disagree?” The young man turned to her and she nodded.

“ He is a man of potential and I bet he is better than lazy Ted who seems to only be depending on his grandfather’s wealth “ Flora stated and Jamie’s attention was fully on her, This lady had just met him for just a few days and she had so much confidence in him.

“ What do you mean? Are you out of your mind ?” Ted yelled at her and Leah just smirked.

“ I have been married to this man for years now and the only thing he is good with is chores “ Leah burst into laughter.

“ I bet he is more than that, Y’all don’t just see it”

“ What do you see that his ex-wife who has known him for more than 10 years can’t see, Huh ?” Ted mocked and she smiled.

“ How about I make him mine, In six months let’s gather again and argue his competence, By then I bet he will be more powerful than you even imagine “ Flora initiated and Jamie looked at her with so much shock, He hadn’t seen a woman so charismatic and confidence in her word, He was even convinced by what she was saying.

“ So you want to make a bet ? My new man Ted or My useless ex husband which will become more powerful and rich in 6 months ? “ Leah asked and Flora nodded .

“ Sily…” Ted chuckles.

“ Yes … If he wins then he gets whatever he wants , Jamie is that okay with you ?” Flora asked and Jamie smirked .

“ Let’s make it three months … if i prove to you that I am not a useless man, I will take custody of Austin… Agreed ?” Jamie said , he was so invested in flora’s new idea that it made him more determined, He didn’t need six months but just three months.

“ Are you sure ? , Three months is a small time “ Flora whispered and Jamie nodded .

“ Deal , if you do not prove yourself after three months … You will become our trash man , I guess it will make sense for you to take out trash like you “ Ted brought out his hands for a handshake and Jamie pushed them away .
