Darkness. It was the only thing Cara could see when she opened her eyes. Her heavy head did not make it seem better. She just stood there in the emptiness, feeling nothing inside her. Where was she? She questioned. It looked like a strange place to her, one that she could not fathom. The vast emptiness spread across all angles of the space, and the darkness complimented It. It was like a dark night, with nothing in the sky but the firmament to keep the earth lightened up. But even that was not enough for without the grace of the moon, the earth could not truly be called alive.Cara knew she could not just stand there. It was a vision, it had to be..but no vision she had ever had felt that way. None of them made her feel so choked up. She has been to the ethereal realm before and that was not how it felt. Where she was was different and she did not know how to navigate through it."Alastair! Alastair, can you hear me?"She called out, hoping that her body would make some sort of sign t
Cara gasped as the creature hurled towards her. It didn't look like the Phoenix she had always felt, but not that she had ever seen the Phoenix before. Was that how it looked? Was that how angry it was? The creature hurled at her and as it did, the dark reflection of herself which had been standing before her, suddenly levitated into the air.The dark smoke escaping from its body slowly filled the atmosphere, like it was attempting to trap Cara within it. She staggered back and decided to run when she noticed that there was no way for her to survive both attacks. She wasn't really sure she would wake up should she die in that state. As the Phoenix kept approaching, she quickly tried to climb the cliff. Her sloppy legs kept slipping from the rocks which would propel her to the top. She just kept trying but to no avail. Then the creature opened its mouth and shrieked, and when it did, a gust of energy hurled at her. Cara quickly took refuge beneath one of the large rocks and what surpr
"Breathe, Cara. Breathe..."Alastair said to Cara as she opened her eyes. Her breathing was raspy and shallow like she could barely even get the air down her lungs. She looked at Alastair as he kept muttering some words while she steadied herself, taking short, deep breaths along the way."Breathe...you are fine now. You are alright. Just take it easy." He said to her and she whimpered softly. Her chest was tight like she had had a heart attack along the way. "Here. Drink this." Alastair said and handed her a tonic. She had no idea what he had mixed together and frankly, she did not care. She just drank it, but something she could not shake off was the bitter taste of it.She gagged as she tried to swallow the tonic but she nearly retched. She quickly cleaned off the excess from the sides of her mouth and sighed. It took a moment before the tunic began to work, and when it did, Cara could already feel her energy returning."Thank you." She said to him and he nodded. "What happened?"
The town's name was...Pyra. Alastair could tell from the inscriptions they had at the entrance. The letters were quite similar to those in Elderien and they looked like they were just inscribed. As the letters were the first things Alastair noticed about the city, the gloomy nature of the place was the next thing that came to mind.Whenever they walked past people, they usually for a stare or two. Alastair wondered why that was. It was not that they were dirty or anything. Alastair watched the people as each walked past him and all he could observe was that Pyra was a terribly depressed place. Why were they gloomy? What happened to their joy?"Is it just me or is this town creepy?" Cara asked Alastair and she suddenly made eye contact with a young woman. The woman suddenly looked away like she was vermin. Cara scoffed."She's not even pretty." She muttered as she tried to catch up with Alastair."I don't think they like us very much." She said to him."Just keep going. Do not mind the
The woman screamed as she kept glaring at the knife which was suspended in the air. It was like her heart had fallen out of place. Alastair did not understand why she was so freaked out over magic. Was that the first time she was seeing a magical act? But still, even if it was, she would have been amused instead of scared. What was wrong? What was happening? The two men holding Cara slowly let go of her and stepped aside. The others that Alastair had beaten up already still stood to their feet and gasped. Each of them reached for a weapon, although they were injured. They hurled at him. Alastair simply kicked the first man's face and sent a punch to the second man. The man yelled as Alastair punched him right on the shoulder where he had fractured already. Another one tried to crawl up on him but Alastair noticed and kicked the man also. As the man fell, he used his magic to drag him closer. That made the others tremble. Curious! The two healthy men that had been the ones holding Cara
"A mage. Now that is something I did not think I will be seeing today. But you know how the universe works. We make our plans and it just does its own. Or, isn't that right, Mage?" The man asked Alastair but he just nodded. "I need to get back. I left someone behind. I appreciate your help so far but I got it from here." Alastair said to him and the man chuckled."Who did you leave behind?" The man asked him. The carriage bumped and Alastair could hear the man curse."It was my ward. She is all alone in the streets now and she must be scared. I need to find her immediately." Alastair replied. The man nodded and looked at him."Why don't you use your magic to find her? You can do that, can you not? You can do anything with this power of yours. Give it a try. Come on." The man persisted. If Alastair did not know better, he would have thought that the man was obsessed with magic.Alastair closed his eyes and focused again, but still, something was blocking that particular spell. He trie
The carriage pulled up in front of a beautiful house with really great designs which Alastair could not help but notice. The man, Lord Karl was right. If he wanted to find Cara, he needed his help. And besides, the man was a mage like him. He was the only one who probably understood what it felt like to be a mage in that city and Alastair knew his best chance was with Karl.Or so he thought.Lord Karl quickly walked inside the house and Alastair followed closely. When the door opened, Alastair was greeted by a large hall with beautiful chandeliers. If they could exert that much beauty during the day, what about at night? It would be paradise."Being a mage in Pyra has its own benefits, you know. I was able to build all of these by preserving my secret, telling it to no one but myself, and should someone else know about it, I will take care of them. With time, I think you will learn to do the same thing as well."Lord Karl said and Alastair raise his brow. With time? He was not plannin
"What gig?"Cara asked again as James approached her. There was a reaction that Denise have afterward, almost like she was jealous that he approached her instead. Cara sighed. She was not to steal anyone's man."We have the chance to get off the Streets tonight, for good. We can finally do something with our lives. Good things but it will require the greatest test of our lives. We need all the help we can get if we will make it. We need you."He said to her and Cara scoffed."You do not know me. You have no idea who I am. So, why are you planning on taking me along? Who knows? Denise might be right. Maybe I am a spy or something. I do not want to go." Cara said to him and he nodded."I understand. But at the same time, I want you to think it through. This is a job meant for four people. We cannot manage with three. And you asked why I want to take you along? For some reason, I feel like you understand what we are going through. Your eyes tell a story when I look into them. It's Sad. W
