Ch. 04: Lowly Miserable Janitor.

"I can't believe we were thrown out like that," Sandy said in rage as she walked out of the jewelry shop with Matthew. "I am never going to come to this shop anymore. I swear by my name."

Matthew did not say anything. Although he was angry as Sandy, he was more embarrassed than he was angry, and so kept his rage sealed within, his hands caressing his nose every now and then.

"And you," Sandy called out, referring to Matthew. "What was that about? You said you were an expert in martial arts and then beaten like a dog right in front of me who you are supposed to protect. Worse is, you even hid behind me. Meanwhile Ethan... that Ethan... You know what? Forget it."

She was still overwhelmed with jealousy, and the fact that her now ex husband was now with a woman richer, and far more prettier than her made her heart almost explode in resentment.

"I can't believe all of this is happening to me," she whispered to herself, away from the hearing of Matthew. "Why am I getting jealous over someone I actually hated? What the hell is wrong with me? I hate this."

Back in the shop, all the other workers were filled with marvel at what had just happened. If they had not seen it with their eyes, they surely would have not believed it. But it all had happened right there in front of them; the lowly miserable janitor whom no one else respected was now getting married to the boss. How unbelievable was that? Soon they would have to be calling him a boss too.

"I can't believe that man was able to pull off such fighting skills he did," said one middle aged woman who worked in the ring department part of the shop. "What else do we not know about him? He could be anybody. Even a spy and nobody would know about him. I find that to be bad."

"Shhh," another woman gestured with her index finger on her lips. "That is more reason you should not talk too much about it. Mind what you say."

"Well from what I know, he is a martial art expert, and from now on we can no longer treat him in the way we treated him before," the first woman said. There was almost a hint of disappointment in her voice as she did.

"Make yourself comfortable," Kelly said to Ethan as he got into the office. It was an ironic thing to say, as Ethan felt anything but comfortable in the place. He stood still regardless, disregarding her plea for him to be comfortable.

"When I say be comfortable, I really mean for you to sit down." Kelly pointed to a chair just opposite her. Her eyes were fixed on him. He felt chills just by staring at her.

He took the chair and sat down on the chair, waiting for whatever she wanted to say. Depending on the outcome, he was prepared to tell her that he had divorced from his ex wife, but it did not necessarily mean that he would marry her because of it. Even though it meant losing his job. He was still suspicious after all of her motives behind asking him out.

She took a seat too and let out a sigh that seemed to have been residing in her chest for a long time. She then looked under the table. It seemed there were cupboards there. Out of it she brought a file that had several papers between it. There were documents as Ethan had suspected. He had seen too many documents for one day to be comfortable with seeing this one on the table.

There was a slight smile dancing across Kelly's lips, as though she could feel the aversion that was swirling within him as she dropped the documents to the table.

"Go on. Read it," she urged, crossing one leg over another like the boss lady that she was, sitting just across from him.

His hands shook as he stretched his hands to hold it, having a heavy mix of expectations on what might be within the documents. His head spun faintly.

He opened it soon enough and became wide eyed. “What is this?”
